I have a German Shepherd that likes to gulp water like there was no tomorrow. He would gulp until he would end up throwing up everything in his stomach (normally on our carpet, of course). I was very worried about bloat and I read about this bowl and wanted to give it a try. My first thought when I received it was that it wasn't a very big bowl. I think it comfortably holds about 2 cups of water, to where the float works properly. But if it would help keep my dog from gulping, I didn't care about the size. On the initial try, he just pushed the float down and gulped water as he normally would, which made me think that it wasn't going to do the trick. But this was just a matter of my adjusting the water in the float. Not only that, I also needed to give my dog time to get used to how the bowl worked. My dog has been using this bowl now for about 3-4 weeks and I can HAPPILY say that he has adjusted to it and IT DOES WORK! He has not thrown-up since we started using this bowl. I would say that this bowl is probably best fited to a medium size breed dog; but it is working for my large breed dog --- I just need to fill the bowl more often, which actually helps me monitor the amount of water my dog drinks anyway. So it's been a very good bowl for our dog's situation.

I had to make this comment on a Wonderful and genius bowl for Dogs that choke on drinking water.. My 8 yr old Shih Tzu for the longest time has had a HE'S Happy too.
