Intended for indoor use only, this single pole, in-wall, motion activated switch detects movement or motion and automatically activates lighting or appliances for a specified amount of time. Popular, "decora-style" design matches almost any home decor. A built-in photocell is used to prevent the switch from activating lighting when there is already enough present; such as ambient light coming into a room through a window. General Electrics 57885 has an adjustable sensitivity and is extremely reliable. It has one of the largest detection ranges possible for this design. The motion detector is much more sensitive to motion moving across the front of the sensor or perpendicular, than motion moving toward the sensor. This motion detector senses heat in motion and very fast temperature changes from a visible heat source. In order to avoid false triggers, do not install this switch facing a area containing air conditioners, heaters, and other sources of heat or cold.

When using this switch in a new construction, choose a location where the motion sensor has a clear view of the area you wish to monitor. When using this device in a retrofit application, simply replace your existing switch with the new GE Motion Activated Switch. Controlling your lighting or appliances so that they only activate when needed creates an incredible amount of safety by illuminating darkrooms or running appliances hands-free. Automating your in-home lighting and appliances control, is a money saving home improvement you will not regret. You will notice that these switches will use much less energy by knowing when it is needed and by preventing lights and appliances from being on too long.
