- Electronically control tinting and fresh air with the touch of a button
- Add a venting skylight to any room to enjoy natural lighting and sky views
- Improved energy efficiency through reduction of up to 77% of solar heat gain
Essential Info
The SageGlass Venting Skylight lets you electronically tint your skylights to offer full control of the amount of light and heat that enters a room. Using electrochromic glass technology, the skylight glass tints from clear to dark to keep out the heat of sun without losing the view to the sky, all at the touch of a button. Energy savings and elimination of uncomfortable heat gain is possible even on the brightest and hottest days; and you receive the benefit of maximum protection against fading from direct sunlight on your furniture, and carpet. Best of all, it requires less energy to tint a houseful of SageGlass skylights than it does to power a single 40-watt incandescent light bulb.
Due to excessive weight, Smarthome will add a heavy-item shipping charge to this item. This charge will be reflected in the shipping amount on the check-out page.

Skylight Opens to Let the Air InIn addition to window tinting, the SageGlass Venting Skylight opens outward to let in fresh air. Just press a button on the included remote control, and the skylight opens and closes quickly and quietly. The SageGlass Venting Skylight comes with a pre-installed concealed motor, control system, and two rain sensors that automatically close your skylight during inclement weather.
SageGlass® - A Revolutionary New TechnologyThe skylight is made with award-winning SageGlass® electrochromic technology. The SageGlass panes are produced by coating glass with multiple layers of thin ceramic thin film that, in total, are less than 1/50th the thickness of a human hair. Applying a low DC voltage causes the active electrochromic layers to darken and reversing the voltage polarity causes the layers to lighten. From an energy standpoint, the SageGlass Skylight meets ENERGY STAR approval guidelines for energy efficiency in all climatic regions of the U.S.
The amount of time it takes for electrochromic glazing to switch from one state to another depends upon several factors such as glazing size and temperature. Generally, the smaller the glazing and the warmer the temperature of the glass, the faster the transition time will be. Average transition times are 5-10 minutes. After eight hours of being continuously in the darkened state, the control system will automatically clear the glass and the skylight will remain clear until commanded to tint again by activation of the remote control.
Installation RequirementsThe VSE skylight installs right out of the box on roofs with slopes between 15° and 85°. The smooth, low-profile of the SageGlass Venting Skylight does not obstruct your roofline. The SageGlass Venting Skylight comes with a select wood frame and aluminum or copper cladding. Pre-installed mounting brackets are provided to improve installation time and quality.
The Velux EDL Skylight Step Flashing provides a water-tight seal for skylights installed on roofs with shingles, shakes and other low profile roofing materials, while the Velux EDW Skylight High-Profile Flashing does the same for high-profile roofing materials such as concrete or Spanish tile. If you live in an area where ice and snow accumulate on the roof, it's a good idea to add the Velux Roofing Underlayment, which wraps the skylight to provide added protection from extreme weather conditions. The Home Automation Interface allows you to control your skylight's tinting and venting independently using external sensors or your home automation system.
Non-venting Fixed Skylight AvailableIf you won't need the cross breeze, the SageGlass Fixed Skylight will add lighting to the dark areas of your home and also features the SageGlass electronic tinting.
