Essential Info
The SageGlass fixed skylight is perfect for visually expanding areas with light and sky views, while adding value to your home. Electrochromic glass technology allows homeowners to tint skylight glass from clear to dark without losing the view to the sky, all at the touch of a button. This allows convenient control of light and heat entering rooms through skylights without blinds or shades. Energy savings and elimination of uncomfortable heat gain is possible even on the brightest and hottest days; and you receive the benefit of maximum protection against fading from direct sunlight on your furniture, and carpet.

SageGlass® - A Revolutionary New Technology The skylight is made with award-winning SageGlass® electrochromic technology. The SageGlass panes are produced by coating glass with multiple layers of thin ceramic thin film that, in total, are less than 1/50th the thickness of a human hair. Applying a low DC voltage causes the active electrochromic layers to darken and reversing the voltage polarity causes the layers to lighten. From an energy standpoint, it requires less energy to tint a houseful of SageGlass skylights than it does to power a single 40-watt incandescent light bulb. The SageGlass Skylight meets ENERGY STAR approval guidelines for energy efficiency in all climatic regions of the U.S.
The amount of time it takes for electrochromic glazing to switch from one state to another depends upon several factors such as glazing size and temperature. Generally, the smaller the glazing and the warmer the temperature of the glass, the faster the transition time will be. Average transition times are 5-10 minutes. After eight hours of being continuously in the darkened state, the control system will automatically clear the glass and the skylight will remain clear until commanded to tint again by activation of the remote control.
Installation RequirementsA Skylight Control System will be required to control your skylight, the system includes a power supply, 50 feet connector wire, control switch and a white trim plate for a standard single gang box.
The FS skylight installs right out of the box on roofs with slopes between 15° and 85°. The smooth, low-profile of the SageGlass Skylight does not obstruct your roofline. Pre-installed mounting brackets are provided to improve installation time and quality. Deck mounted skylights, the most versatile skylight installation option available, combine an insulated glass lens, a select wood frame and protective aluminum or copper cladding into one unit that is mounted directly to the roof deck. Flashing kits are required and available for most roofing materials.
The Velux EDL Skylight Step Flashing provides a water-tight seal for skylights installed on roofs with shingles, shakes and other low profile roofing materials, while the Velux EDW Skylight High-Profile Flashing does the same for high-profile roofing materials such as concrete or Spanish tile. If you live in an area where ice and snow accumulate on the roof, it's a good idea to add the Velux Roofing Underlayment, which wraps the skylight to provide added protection from extreme weather conditions. The Home Automation Interface allows you to control your skylight's tinting using external sensors or your home automation system.
Venting Skylight AvailableIf you love the idea of some fresh air and a nice breeze, the tintable SageGlass Venting Skylight adds light to dark areas of your home and features the adjustable tinting.
