Essential Info

Are you tired of fiddling around with your set of keys to find the right key? Or are you just tired of using keys in general? With the iButton Solo Lock you don't have to worry about those things anymore. The iButton Solo Lock is a durable, well designed door lock that can be used many different ways. The lock can be opened with a simple key code, iButton, mechanical key or any combination of the three. You can limit the access times for each and every user that is programmed in the unit, making this the perfect lock for your home or business. This item is a left handed, brass iButton Solo Lock that includes 3 iButtons.

The iButton Solo Lock is capable of handling up to 299 users. Most people use the iButtons for entry access. However, you can use either of the other two options; mechanical key or keypad code. The iButton and its plastic keyfob are about the size of a house key and are designed to be carried on a keychain.

Figuring out if you need a left or right handed door lock couldn't be easier. The best way to approach this is to act as if you're looking at the door from the secure side (outside), then, locate the door hinges. If your door hinges are on the left side, then you need a left handed door lock, if they're on the right side, you need a right handed door lock.

Hands-On Research:
When testing this product I found it to be very durable, well designed and extremely reliable. Not once in the 500 attempts to unlock the unit with the iButton did it fail to open. The unit comes equipped with an iButton sensor that is located at the top of the lock. In the center of the sensor is a LED indicator that lights up red when an incorrect code is entered, or when an unregistered iButton is being attempted for use. You will see a green light when your choice of entry is accepted. The unit is powered by 4 AA batteries that are not included with the lock.

    What's an iButton?
The iButton is a key-sized device that contains a computer chip and attaches to a keychain. Each chip has its own unique ID number and is unaffected by magnetic fields, metal detectors, water and most common chemicals. You can drop it, step on it, scratch it or wear it swimming. The iButton is wear-tested for 10-year durability and can be reassigned to a new user quickly and securely.

Who else is using the iButton?
Lots of people are using the iButton for security, convenience or efficiency. Some examples:
    • Employees at the U.S. Mint in Denver aren't allowed to carry money into the facility, so they use iButtons to operate the vending machines. Across Canada, many vending machines can be operated by iButtons or with cash.
    • There are more than 200,000 iButton-based keys in use on more than 10,000 apartment and condo buildings in the New York City area. The Trump Organization uses them in 43 of its buildings. A new 9,000-resident development on the Hudson River across from Manhattan is a major user of the iButton: all common area entrance doors, laundry room doors, mailroom doors and pedestrian gates are equipped with iButton-controlled locks.
    • A school in Celebration, Florida, issues iButtons to its students, who use them to open classroom doors and log onto computers. The school plans to expand the technology to its cafeteria, allowing students to pay for their meals with their iButton. This has the added benefit of privacy: Students are prevented from knowing which classmates are on a government-funded reduced-price or free meal program.
    • Ryder truck rental mounts an iButton on the side of each of its trucks. The button records the truck number, its rental location, the customer's name and odometer reading at the start of the rental; when the truck is returned the information is downloaded into the company's database for billing.
    • The mass transit system in Istanbul, Turkey, is one of the biggest users of the iButton. Some 1.4 million riders use iButtons to travel on the system's subways, buses, trains and ferries.

    Multiple Access Options
The iButton Solo Lock has multiple ways of releasing the lock. The lock comes with 2 mechanical keys, 3 iButtons and a manual. You can lock and unlock the iButton Solo with an iButton, a mechanical key or a key-code that you can program in a matter of seconds. Also, you can set up users that require both the iButton, and a key-code for access. The mechanical key will over ride all options. It's basically the master key.

    Handles up to 299 Users
The iButton Solo Lock can handle 299 users with a combination of iButton and code, keypad only, iButton only, or dual access. When programming users, you can choose a user code between 1-8 digits long. Programming users can be as easy as 1-2-3. Simply enter programming mode by entering the master code, select a number for the user, and then choose a 1-8 digit code. Each user has their own level of access, meaning you can set specific times that users can or cannot enter.

    Backlit Keypad
The iButton Solo Lock has at keypad that once touched, lights up blue for clear visibility in any lighting condition. The keypad will stay lit for about 5-7 seconds at a time, and will turn off automatically with no activity.

    Auto Lock Mode
The iButton Solo Lock has the auto lock feature that is so valuable to those who forget to lock the door on their way out, or for those who don't enjoy locking the door after they've left a room or setting. The manufacturer's default settings has the auto lock mode disabled, so this must be changed to auto lock at present time in order to function as explained.

This was super easy to install. No drilling. I just removed my old deadbolt and put this in. Tips: 1. Make sure you have room on both sides of the door for the keypad above the lock. The inside of the door holds the batteries and is about the same size as you see on the front. 2. There is no schedule or other programming software on this model. Its simply use a key (you get 2) or the keypad. 3. Anyone can hit the lock key which is on the front keypad. Simply locks the door. 4. The unlock works by using any choice of a 3-8 digit code then clicking the unlock button. I think you can put in about 8 or 10 codes if you wish. 5. Have 4 AA batteries ready to get this to work right away. Simple and easy.
