Essential Info

Enjoy a door intercom system that can be installed in minutes! This 3-Channel Door Intercom System communicates over your home's existing wiring so that you don't have to do any new wiring. With this Door Intercom, you'll be able to answer your doorbell from any room in your home. The 3-Channel Door Intercom System communicates via your existing home AC wires and will block X10 signals during the period that the intercoms are being used. They will not affect X10 operation if they're plugged in, but are not transmitting sound. The door intercom unit easily replaces your existing push-button doorbell using existing doorbell wiring.

NOTE: Does not work when plugged into GFI outlet.

    Works find for me

I returned this item because I had wanted an intercom and door bell both and with this system it is one or the other. Also, it's not really wireless the station has to be plugged in and the doorbell wired in the existing doorbell wiring. The price was pretty good except my return was processed a month ago and I am still waiting for my refund.

Unfortunately, this product will not work in UK, even when 240 volt supply is stepped down to 120 volts.

I purchased this item on November 21, 2009. My wife wanted an intercom at the front door so she could ask who was there and decide if she wanted to answer. From the description on the website this sounded like a good, easy-to-install inexpensive option. The nice thing is that it doesn't require batteries in the outdoor unit or in the indoor unit. My plan was to plug the intercom into the family room where we spend most of our time. The advertisement said that the outdoor unit could connect to the new transformer that comes with the kit through the existing doorbell wiring. After finding installation instructions and a connection schematic posted on another website (my kit didn't come with instructions), it appeared to me that all I had to do was replace the old doorbell transformer in the basement with the new one in the kit and that would connect to the outdoor unit through the existing doorbell wire. It said that the transformer and intercom had to be plugged into the same electrical "loop" but I interpreted this to be on the same side of the incoming 220V line. So, I installed the new transformer in the basement, plugged the intercom into the family room (both are connected to the same side of the 220V incoming power line) and - nothing. First I discovered that this system does not operate the old doorbell. The intercom unit "chimes" when the doorbell button is pushed. I don't remember reading that in the instructions. The old doorbell must be bypassed. Secondly I discovered that if I plugged the intercom unit into the basement where the transformer was plugged in, the intercom worked. The conclusion was that both the transformer and the intercom must be plugged into outlets connected to the same circuit breaker. In my house the basement and the family room are on different circuit breakers (actually, my house has a circuit breaker for almost every room). So when I plugged the intercom into the family room and ran a 100 ft extension cord from a family room outlet to the transformer in the basement, the intercom worked. But since I could not figure out any easy way to plug the new transformer into the family room (without having an extension cord running through the house) and make a connection from there to the old doorbell wiring, I gave up and returned the unit. The unit has a good idea, just impractical for my application.

works very well. it was a little hard to wire up because of the way the wires are attached but it does a great job. I may get another one for the other door. Thank you

the range is good for anaverage home and the price is a bargain, but the sound is not very clear.
    ARTURO -- miami, FL   12/14/2009
Good product, easy to use, plug in and use!
    ELIAS -- mission, TX   10/14/2009
The range is great for an averge home and the sound is good, for a wirelees device
BETTY -- saint clair shores, MI   4/30/2009
It takes someone that knows about wiring. We got one for the front door and one for the back door and are very pleased with them.
JOSEPH -- los angeles, CA   4/30/2009
A perfect answer to not having to run to sound of the doorbell, and thru intercom communication device, you can ask enough identifying questions until you are sure it is ikay to unlock and give entrance,
    RICHARD -- charlottesville, VA   2/19/2009
Installed in existing construction. Independent installation (could not find original transformer) was easy.
    DEBBIE -- albuquerque, NM   1/11/2009
Is NOT easy to install, and requires both an electrician and a special relay switch which is not part of package (if I remember what the electrician said when he ordered it) and so the installation will cost at least as much as the unit.
    BARBARA -- lakeland, FL   1/6/2009
4*. However, installation was a problem. I thought I was ordering a "wireless" unit. The wiring has proven to be a problem. In fact if I had not there would be wiring I would not have ordered the product.
    ROBERT -- spokane, WA   12/26/2008
It does the job but there is still some AC buzz in the signal. Very simple installation
DANIEL -- colorado springs, CO   11/20/2008
Instructions somewhat vague. Would have had difficult time were there not a schematic included. Also I was under the impression that the original doorbell would remain operational - not so. The screw at the bottom of the door bell switch module is impossible to reinstall - should be made larger and easier to get a hold of.
SHAWN -- mission viejo, CA   10/2/2008
Sound quality is not clear and when you use talk button from other stations you also hear the conversation outside at the intercom/doorbell.
JOHN -- sherman oaks, CA   2/13/2008
This system works great for my purpose. I did not have any doorbell at all and no wires to connect to and it's a three story house so when people knock, I never know. I was able to install the intercom box by the door and get power just inside. Then plugged the intercom anywhere I want to inside or move it around as I please. I plan to buy a couple more intercom units so I can have one on each floor. My father was so impressed by how well it worked, I bought him a set for his birthday so he can answer the door from the back of his house. The only issue I have had is that some visitors don't realize they have to push the "talk" button to speak back to me. But if I hear nothing, I let them know. That usually works.
VIRGINIA -- elk grove, CA   6/20/2007
Very easy to install and use. Wonderful. Thank you.
    JERRY -- vancouver, WA   5/11/2007
This thing basically doesnt work for me since it is too sensitive to noise, even in my house which doesnt have much in it other then DSL and regular appliances, and a few computers. It doesnt work in the kitchen at all because of all the noise. It also is only compatable with 3 total intercom stations on any channel, additional ones dont work at all (the one that doesnt work seems random)
    LYNNE -- ottawa, ON   3/26/2007
Great product right out of the box.
