If you've invested a decent amount of money in your A/V equipment and you're not interested in being forced into an "upgrade" the next time a surge comes through your power grid, you need to make sure you have a means of protecting that equipment.

If you don't have a surge protector to cover your whole house, it would be a good idea to invest in one of those for lighting storms and the like, but there are smaller surges that can pass through the whole house surge protectors and still damage your equipment.
