    Precision-molded curved lens
Unlike other thin flat lenses, the NightGUARDIAN lens is molded into a curve, so it is distortion free and water-tight. No false triggering either due to distortion or moisture problems. In fact, the entire NightGuardian unit carries a UL rain-tight rating. Unlike the competition, it does not have to be placed under an eave or in a protected area.

Advanced surface-mount circuit board for greater reliability and longer life
Similar to the circuit board circuitry used in personal computers, NightGUARDIAN technology provides reliable, accurate performance from -40°F to 120°F. This means no false triggering due to wind, leaves and swaying branches, snow, rain and hail, barometric pressure changes or sudden temperature changes. The competition often uses 30 year-old technology, using push-through mounting of components onto the circuit board and a layer of solder to make connections between circuits. This type of circuit responds slowly and has to go through many connection points, providing many potential points of failure.

    Built-in surge protection with auto-reset
Unlike the competition, the NightGUARDIAN resets itself instantly after power surges, outages and shortages. Additionally, if the competitions' product is miswired during installation, the circuitry is generally destroyed. With the NightGUARDIAN, the unit simply resets itself once the wiring connections are corrected.

    No mounting height limitation
Only NightGUARDIAN can be installed at any height, even above 12 feet. With its UL rain-tight rating, NightGUARDIAN can be placed in open weather since it does not require a protected area.

    Flexible detection coverage
NightGUARDIAN offers "Sneak-By Guard," which prevents intruders from sneaking under the lens. Minimum coverage distance of 40 feet, even farther in colder temperatures. Views a 140° horizontal angle that adjusts to cover any 140° in a 270° sweep, with a 65° vertical plane adjustment. Zone adjustments made easy with clip-on shrouds that allow split zones. Timing adjustable from 10 seconds to 15 minutes.

    Microprocessor manual override
The competition's product will often slip into override as a result of power outages or surges, wasting electricity until you notice the unit is in override mode. With the NightGUARDIAN, the unit will automatically return to normal operation after four hours. Additionally, a red indicator light behind the lens lets you know the unit is in manual override mode, eliminating guesswork.

Every other motion sensor light I've owned lasts only for a year or two -- and no wonder the typical motion sensor light is only rated for 14 degrees F. Their tech support said these are rated -40 to +121 degrees! Combined with the built in surge protection, my expectation is that these will give many years of solid service.
TONY -- cherry hill, NJ   6/12/2014
Haven't had them up that long yet but they have been working without issue.
    EDMUND D. -- wakefield, RI   4/24/2014
Replaced the original 10 yr old fixture with the new unit. Easy installation within 10 minutes.
    ELIZABETH -- marquette, MI   10/26/2013
This is our second unit. They work great. The best thing is the ability to adjust it to our needs.
    RICHARD -- easton, MD   9/22/2013
Replaced existing lights. No mods required and lights have performed exceptionally well.
    BILL -- camarillo, CA   8/1/2013
Purchased for compact design. Hard to adjust, plastic appeared easy to break. Quality lacking. Installation not difficult. Works properly. Order received promptly. Would not be worth pre-discount price.

WILLIAM -- young harris, GA   4/1/2013
Basically a very good product, although aiming the heads, which don't stay put very well is a little frustrating, and sensitivity, although adequate doesn't seem very adjustable
    SIDNEY -- kaneohe, HI   9/23/2012
This was my 3rd & 4th Steinel motion sensor purchase. I find them to be the highest quality and the most reliable motion sensing products. Very few false alarms compared to other brands.
    JASON -- davisburg, MI   6/18/2012
Would purchase again if I needed to. Installation instructions could be better, but anyone with any type of mechanical aptitude can make it through the install. Looks and works great. One thing to note, where the instructions say to pull the bulb housings outward to rotate, keep in mind that these are spring-loaded, so it's a pull out, rotate, and lock back in type of motion. Overall, I'm happy with this light.
DAVID -- fort worth, TX   5/26/2012
I installed this fixture on a vertical wall. For a new install, it requires a weatherproof double gang box (not included, about 10 dollars)unless mounting on a soffit. If you are replacing a fixture on a typical round box in a fairly protected spot, there is a mounting bar adapter included that will fit with (in my case) a bit of drilling, filing, bending and caulking. The screws included did not fit the recommended double gang box (wrong thread), so that necessitated a trip to the hardware store. The final two mounting cap head screws did not screw in easily even with lubrication. When attempting to snug them up, BOTH heads broke off the screws in succession. One screw could not be removed from the plastic mounting plate as the white metal was below the lip of the mounting stud. I backed out the other with locking pliers and, after a trip to the hardware store, found a bolt and washer that almost fit. I called the manufacturer and a Steinel's USA CSR sent out a new hardware kit and plastic mounting plate over successive days and calls. With new parts in hand within 5 days and a trip to the hardware store for a tap to clean up the studs, the rest of the installation went smoothly. The twist and lock aiming feature works great, just be sure to remove the bulbs before every adjustment. Have a steady ladder and good grip when you jerk them out to adjust them if you are 12 feet up like I was. Plan ahead and carefully choose your mounting height (between 8 and 12 feet) so your bulbs will put the light where you need it and they won't block the sensor and prowlers can't easily unscrew them. The sensor and electronics work great after careful adjustment, testing and warming up. We'll see how they stand up to direct sun in North Texas, but with a five year warranty, I'm not too worried. I am considering buying another FL300W to replace a soffit mounted fixture, which would be (in comparison) a dead simple installation.
    IVOR -- rosedale, NY   4/5/2012
Just purchased my second unit. Had the first one for almost a year. The sensor picks up at a little less than twenty feet but that's fine for my small area.
    GEORGE F. -- lead, SD   12/22/2011
Have had this installed for a couple of weeks now. Had to make a few adjustments to aim the sensor, but once done it works fine.
STEVE -- old saybrook, CT   11/21/2011
works as described, nice quality, easy install
    CATHERINE S. -- worcester, MA   11/5/2011
This is the second one I have purchased, the first a couple years ago. Both function exactly as advertised, and are more attractive than others I have seen.
Cary, NC -- United States   8/1/2011
The good: high quality construction, stainless steel fasteners and heavy gauge ABS housing means this unit should last forever outdoors. Light pointing is very easy and requires no tools. Sensor is very adjustable and easy to setup in test mode even during daylight. The bad: Sensor has fairly short, narrow range. Works well if you want the light to turn on as you pass very close by, but you may be disappointed if you want broad detection range. The ugly: the snap-in conduit nipple supplied for soffit mounting doesn't work- molding tolerances are insufficient for this design. I had to remove the o-ring and seal with silicone to get the assembly to work. This is a design flaw that should be fixed by the manufacturer.
    JOHN P -- bradenton, FL   5/2/2011
This is the second one I bought from you. They work flawlessly without false activations.
PAUL JAY -- willow springs, MO   4/18/2011
Mounting screws are of poor quality - both broke off when trying to finish installation. Had to modify unit to finish installation. Plastic on unit seems thin and not likely to withstand many winter sub zero seasons (Plastic becomes brittle after exposure to elements.) Needs to be made of metal to have a good chance for long term durability. Pricing seems a bit high for all plastic unit. Design of infrared sensing is the reason this product was chosen over others.
    JOHN P -- riviera beach, FL   3/5/2011
Iam pleased with the service AND the product. Todate, there have been no false activations. It solved the problem we had with thye old lights. I really would like to buy another one. Please repeat the order without changes.
    STEVE ILLIG -- kansas city,mo   10/8/2009
I love this light fixture. I have had it 4 years and have had no problems at all. I used to buy those lights at Home Depot but they do not last long. I think water gets into the sensors with the ones Home Depot sells. You get what you pay for . This 4650w Night Guardian is a excellent quality product.
