Essential Info

The Sylvania LED Ecolight Water Powered Shower Light can make showering both safe and energy efficient. This easy to install Shower Light has a built-in LED light that requires no batteries, power supply or wiring. So how does it work? It simply converts incoming water pressure into the power supply allowing you an eco-friendly shower. As well as being a power-saving shower light, a built-in sensor will change the color of the LED light, letting you know if the water will be too hot or too cold. Now you won't have to worry about being shocked by freezing water or burned by scalding water or worried if the kid's showers are the right temperature. By using this LED you can go without turning on your bathroom light in the morning or night and save energy. With this clever bathroom product you can enjoy innovative lighting technology in a practical way. This energy saving product is also perfect for teaching children how to choose the right temperature for their showers.     The Sylvania LED Ecolight Water Powered Shower Light installs on standard 3/4" shower pipes and attaches to most showerheads. An easy to press On/Off switch is built-in if you choose not to use the light feature.

    Hands-On Review
    Installation was quite easy, although having Teflon tape on hand or some pipe thread putty should be recommended. The unit works quite well, and is fun to watch. It does reduce the water pressure some, perhaps 15 - 20%. The white light is quite bright and lights up dim shower areas nicely.

    Works great, but very fragile connections. Don't try to move shower head direction once installed as IT WILL BREAK. Plastic connector very flimsy.

    don't buy it, it is crap, I have had three of them, they either leak internally and then not work, or they leak externally ruining my still drying 3 color paint job in the bath, Smarthome should not sell these

    don't buy it, I have had three, they don't work well I don't understand Smarthome selling this, they either do not work or spray your entire bathroom with water and in my case ruined a four color paint job still wet in my bathroom, where is the minus star button, this thing sucks

    Works well as a light, but even better as a water flow detector when modified slightly and combined with the ELK-924 (item 7277). Solder wire leads to the white LED and connect the other end of the leads to the ELK-924's "POS" and "T-" terminals, with a 22µF, 16V capacitor in parallel. (I'll let you figure out the polarities.) Use this to signal your home automation system when the shower is in use. (You can use an X10 PowerFlash module, but I prefer manipulating the signal lines of an RS232 port.) Why would you do this? In response to a shower starting, your computer could turn on the exhaust fan, start playing music, announce the time and duration of your shower periodically, and inform people who ring the front doorbell that you are unavailable. When the shower stops, the computer could start an electric body dryer, then switch off the exhaust fan after 10 minutes.

    This is a totally cool but also useful product. Not only do you have extra light in that dark shower, it is light powered by the water flow, so it doesn't get any greener than that! Installation was simple and fast.

    While this product indicates that it only for indoor use, we put it in an outdoor shower that is only used in the summer months. It works perfectly and we were very pleased with this purchase. (Saw it in a "what's this?" segment of "Ask This Old House.)

    Delivery was as specified. I was able to track the shipment to the end. It works! Somehow, when water passes through this little device, you get light. And the color temperature indicator seems to be right on as well. Harvey G

    Product worked for a week before water started leaking into the inside of the unit ruining the bulbs inside. The side color lights do not illuminate the entire ring around the unit, just a red/blue spot on each side. Main LED provided excellent light until it was damaged by water leaking inside the case. This product is "splash-proof" not water-proof which is odd for a product attached to a showerhead. Not sure what was wrong with the unit, no cracks or discernible problems with it. It was packaged very well and sent with care from Smarthome.

    Installs pretty easily; we had a little trouble because we have a double shower head (leaks a little around the light). Good amount of light, altho not as "strong" because it's an LED. Certainly an improvement to our dark shower.
