Essential Info

For automated control of non-dimming fluorescent lights, appliances or high wattage incandescent lighting, simply replace your existing wall switches with this easy-to-install Leviton 10-Amp Relay Wall Switch that is X10-compatible. Unlike standard dimmer switches, which use triacs for switching, this switch uses a mechanical relay to control the load, so it has a much higher load capacity. It features Intellisense® which is a special gated-type of AGC to help eliminate noise problems. It is ideal for powerline carrier systems because it only operates during the signal window when the receiver is listening to command signals.

What's Included

  • Leviton 10-Amp Relay Wall Switch HCS10-1SW
  • Ivory conversion paddle
  • Warranty
  • More Info

The relay switching means the X10 receiver circuitry is somewhat isolated from the load and is relatively unaffected by the type of load being switched (provided it does not exceed rated capacity). Features include ALL LIGHTS ON and ALL UNITS OFF command response and a green LED light that indicates the switch is on.

NOTE: Because this switch responds to the ALL LIGHTS ON command, care should be taken when used to switch non-lamp loads. If you don't want your appliance to respond to this command, use an X10 Appliance Module or an X10 Wall Receptacle.

This wall switch is compatible with Decora® Home Control (DHC) Scene-Capable Receivers, the next generation of powerline home lighting control from Leviton. Designed to work with other Leviton powerline lighting control products, this new system allows you to customize up to 64 whole-house lighting scenes that reflect your favorite moods or activities. Furthermore, the extended-data commands that these switches use make them compatible with a number of home automation controllers, including the Stargate, TimeCommander and HomeVision. The scene feature is not accessible with regular X10 transmitters.

This switch includes a super sensitive receiver circuitry. In testing, we found this switch to be more sensitive than normal wall receiver modules. A new improvement for this model is a quieter relay. Earlier models have used a much louder relay that in some installations have disturbed the homeowners or users.

The Leviton Relay Switch is ready for three or four-way circuits. A 3-way circuit requires one Leviton Relay Switch and one 2365-series slave switch. A 4-way circuit would require a total of two 2 slave switches. Simply add additional slave switches for 5, 6 or more way circuits. For single pole applications, just cap off the yellow traveler wire. Please note that you must use the Leviton 2365-series switches below, existing 3 or 4 way mechanical switches will damage the dimmer.

Quality built in Leviton's own factory. Optional ivory conversion paddles included. Protected with a two-year warranty. Switches are UL-, CSA- and NOM-approved for use in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

This switch requires a neutral wire connection.

Works as specified but note that this device is ONLY a receiver. When you use the switch locally, it will not transmit a signal to other devices. This prevents me from being able to look at a Leviton 4-position wall switch in another part of the house and tell if the lights are on by the status LED's.
ROBERT -- pleasant hill, CA   6/22/2012
Installation and set-up went exactly as specified in the instructions. Seamlessly integrated with existing X-10 devices and is more quiet than expected. Great product.
    CONRAD -- starrucca, PA   4/12/2012
    1. This product was advertised as X10 compatible but the instructions were very poor - never once referencing X10 directly, but only some cryptic references to 'all lights on/off' cmd. 2. The switch worked manually after being hooked up, but pushing the little program button produced no results. No matter how I depressed and held it, the LED would not flash. 3. After trying to push the program button for some time, I heard an arc inside the switch after which it would not even work manually any more. I have used x10 for many years and I remember when it used to be reliable and easy. Now the new devices are quirky pieces of crap! I wonder if Smarthome will give me a new switch. I am electrically quite savvy and made no mistakes; this switch was defective.
    DEBBIE -- kalispell, MT   4/1/2012
    easy to install and program
    TIM -- uniontown, OH   2/24/2012
This unit was working, but did not have the factory cut leads that are normally found with these devices, and was missing wire nuts. Although the unit works, it was apparently an open box or returned unit which should have been communicated to the buyer rather than selling it as a factory new unit.
    STPHANE -- qubec, QC   7/29/2011
    Reliable quality product.
MIKE -- mullica hill, NJ   6/27/2011
Excellent Customer service - solved my issue quickly and replaced this item..
    CHRIS -- hoolehua, HI   11/9/2010
The product performed as expected and the customer was pleased. Since the addresses are programed into the switch by sending the signal from a transmitter, you can have problems prgramming it if there are signal problems in the area where it is being installed. This switch must have a nuetral to function properly which means it will not work as a replacement for wall switches in existing switch boxes where a nuetral is not present.
JEFF -- colorado springs, CO   10/30/2010
Now have a switch that can correctly drive CFLs. Easy to install and is controlled by an X10 timer.
    MIKE -- weddington, NC   7/30/2010
    JAMES -- golden, CO   7/29/2010
Thanks for being so quick to deliever the switches. None of the local supply houses could have gotten to me that soon, Thanks
STEVEN -- ellicott city, MD   5/18/2010
Works as advertised; replaced older Radio Shack dimming switches because I'm going to CFL bulbs. Very large switches though: had to use a 3/4 inch box extender to fit 2 of these in a 2 gang box with 2 of these in a 3-way configuration.
STEVEN -- cortlandt manor, NY   1/20/2010
Works great, easy to install. A bit expencive.
    JAMES -- parkersburg, WV   8/28/2009
Works well with CFLs when replacing standard bulbs. Relay is quiet and operation from X10 controller and remote slave switch is reliable.
    JOHN -- carmel, CA   2/13/2009
Excellent product, but make VERY sure, if you are installing a 3-way or 4-way, that you get the correct slave unit. Leviton makes two relay wall switches, the old and the new types, and they are incompatible. The new unit (this one) turns on with the top paddle and off by pressing the bottom. The old one just toggles on/off by pressing the bottom.
    GEORGE -- toledo, OH   11/29/2008
The switch works fine. Pay attention to the wiring diagrams. You need a slave switch for three way applications.
    Jonathan -- Palo Alto   2/20/2008
This device is the best of the relay controllers, with two specific advantages: 1) You push the top to turn on and the bottom to turn off, even in a 3-way application. 2) It''s very quiet - just a little ping rather than the loud clack of other devices It has one minor complication - to program it, you must put it in learning mode by holding down a button on the device and sending it a code from a transmitter. It doesn''t use the selector wheels found on other units.

    MIKE -- sacramento, CA   12/4/2006
    Just what I wanted.
    ANIBAL -- mexico, XX   9/5/2005
    Worked as expected
