Universal remotes come in handy, because you can control numerous audio/video components with a single unit, without having multiple controls cluttering your coffee table. The 5-in-1 RF/IR Learning Remote performs the same functions, and with its X10 "Super Key," you can control your lights and appliances without having to be in the same room with them. This special home control feature works in conjunction with a wireless transceiver (sold separately) to communicate RF commands. Two AAA batteries are also required but sold separately.

The 5-in-1 RF/IR Remote replaces up to five remotes to let you control practically everything electrical in your home. It has IR technology that lets you control your TV, VCR, cable and CD or DVD player, and X10 RF technology that lets you control lamps and appliances anywhere in your home, so that within minutes, you can be using this remote to dim the lights, start brewing a fresh pot of coffee, and play your favorite movie (X10 modules are required but sold separately).
You can also set the remote to send IR X10 commands if you have an Infrared X10 Command Console (sold separately) set up. If you're just getting started with home automation, you can purchase the 5-in-1 RF/IR Learning Remote as a kit with the Infrared X10 Command Console and two plug-in lamp modules.
The remote uses radio frequency signals to send commands to the transceiver module, which then relays these signals to your lamp or appliance modules. RF signals can go right through walls, so you can use the remotes to control lights or appliances anywhere in your home.
