Essential Info

In 2010 FBI crime clock statistics showed that a home was burglarized once every 14.6 seconds and that the most common way of gaining entrance was through front, back or garage doors. This statistic is pretty alarming to think about and it is this statistic that makes the SecureShield for garage doors from First Watch Security a must-have. If you have an overhead garage door it can take a burglar all of 6-seconds to unlatch the doors emergency release lever and manually open your garage (see video in "More Info"). This is where the SecureShield comes to the rescue. The SecureShield connects to the garage door connecting arm and covers, or shields, the emergency release lever from being tampered with. Owners will still have access to the emergency release but will need to be in the garage to do so, as intended. The SecureShiled is compatible with most motorized overhead garage doors and should take about 10 minutes or less to give you and your family peace-of-mind that you'll be safe from garage break-ins.

The product wasn't difficult to install, but it won't stay in place. The special 'Leveling Pin' is made of plastic, and it doesn't work very well. The shield sags down after I open the garage door two or more times; exposing the release lever to a wire which might be used to trigger or pull the lever. The whole point of this device is to cover the release lever with a box, so the thieves can't fish a coat hanger/wire into your garage and snag/pull the release lever. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get the thing to stay in place. I level it (using the special 'leveling pin' and five minutes later it has 'sagged' to the point where the release lever is exposed. I'm afraid to 'over-tighten' the leveling pin because it's made of a lightweight plastic which might break if I tighten it too much. I guess I'll just have to hope that any potential burglars will see the 'Secure Shield' and give up without trying... This 'leveling pin' device/requirement constitutes a poor design, and I would not recommend that any of my friends buy this product.

Didn't fit my garage door - bummer. Was really hoping to love this product!

This device looks like a good choice to help solve garage door opening thefts. Unfortunately it would not fit my opener.

Sloppy design. Unit droops down due to poor design and can render it useless. Can be modified to fit better by user or you csn save money and buy a cheap metal box to cover safety release.
