Overview

  • Lowest maintenance humidifier - humidifies up to 3000 sq. ft.
  • For oil or gas fired forced air systems

Essential Info

Dry air can be uncomfortable to breathe and dry out wooden furniture excessively. It also causes an increase in static levels which is especially bad if you like tinkering with electronic devices. Dry air can also cost you more in heating bills because it feels colder than humid air at the same temperature. When you add humidity to your home you can actually feel warmer at 68 degrees than you do at 75 degrees, saving as much as 15% in heating costs.

Please Note: This product is not to be used on electric furnaces, heat pumps, or in locations where the air temperature could drop below 40° F.

The ThermoMist is a low maintenance automatic whole-house humidifier suitable for traditional oil or gas fired forced air heating systems. It automatically detects when the heater is blowing and sprays a fine mist into the airflow, and it stops automatically when the airflow stops.

The ThermoMist Automatic Humidifier is easy to install: Simply mount the control box and nozzle to your ductwork and attach it to the water supply with the included saddle valve. Plug the AC adapter into a 110V outlet.

Replacement nozzles and filters are sold separately. Optional humidistat control can be added to shut off the humidifier when desired humidity is reached. You can also plug it into an INSTEON ApplianceLinc (sold separately) for integration into your home automation system.

This product is not recommended in areas where the water has a high mineral content. (Use FreshMist or Turbo Mist systems instead.)

The remote nozzle leaked inside the housing (nothing to do with the hose connection). After fixing that (very difficult because the head was recessed) the unit did produce a fine mist and it did not have much issue with dripping. The real problem is since it can only mist while the furnance is producing heat it can not run long enough to raise the humidity levels. My house was at 10% before turning on one day and still was at 10% one hour, one day, three days later. Additionally the mist significantly cools the heated air blowing through the ducts (down 15 degrees in my last test with a non-contact infra-red temperture gun). Overall a waste of money. I will go back to my whole house steam humidifiers....they consume a ton of energy (electric to boil the water) but nets out the same as mist since mist causes the heater to run longer since the air is cooled by the mist. Additionally steam can run independant of the heater (just need the fan blowing) and can get the humidity to the desired level.

Noticed upon installation that there are cracks in the housing for the spray nozzle. Just got around to unpacking and hooking up item and intended to contact you this week. What can I do to obtain a replacement item. All other parts are in working order. Kind regards, Peter M

Works well. I would make 2 suggestions. Do not mount the misting head above your furnace. It will drip a bit so to avoid damaging the furnace mount the misting head in the trunk slightly down air stream. You may need a bucket under your trunk to catch the drips. Maybe a couple quarts over a three day period under heavy usage. My other suggestion is hard wire the power supply into the furnace so it only operates when the furnace is on. I did this by cannabising a good extension cord cutting the plug end off hardwiring that to furnace then plug in the powersupply to that. Noticed that the unit would turn off couple minutes before the furnace shut down, but a minute or so after the furnace turned off it would just come back on again. This is caused by residual heat rising up the trunk sets off the thermal switch. Raises the humidity in my 2400 sq ft home by 12% or so. Unit comes with a VHS cassette that made me almost want to pull out the old VCR and watch it. Hilarious.

Very pleased with entire kit. I installed it myself. I'll prove it for good this coming winter. It should be ideal. Thanks.

Easy to install. Works good. i don't have hard water so maintenance is virtually nothing.
PETER -- fort collins, CO   2/25/2010
This unit does exactly as its described. I also ordered the larger nozzle and did the trick
    KEN -- chicago, IL   2/21/2010
Unit works fine as expected. Would have been 5-stars if I didn't have to return the first shipment since the unit was defective.
LARRY VAN -- springfield, VA   2/8/2010
    Works as advertised.

The device works fine as long as you keep the nozzle clean. This was a replacement. The first one lasted about 10 years. My only complaint is that the first order had missing installation parts and had to be returned. The second was OK.
    GEORGE -- riverdale, MD   12/11/2009
Received on time, exactly what I needed
ANDREW -- east meadow, NY   11/15/2009
great product easy installation. Only issue was the plastic tubing, would not connect correctly. Went out and bought 1/4 braided lines.
    ROBERT E. -- commerce twp, MI   11/12/2009

Wow. It made a huge difference in my house.
    TERRY -- fulton, MD   1/11/2008
The system leaks at the remone braket where the tube connects to the nozzel inlet. I have tried re-taping it with teflon tape but, it continues to leak. Otherwise, the unit operates OK.
    JOHN -- macungie, PA   1/4/2008
COMPLAINT - It cost me an additional 10% as the nozzle included was to small for my house. Why should I have to pay an additional $17.00 (Part + Shipping) for a properly sized nozzle. Kit should have come with ALL nozzles or a choice. Other than the nozzle issue, kit installed nicely (kinda fun to install). I installed it with my 8 year old daughter . . she enjoyed helping! Could have been a 5 rating if not for the inconvenience & expense of ordering proper nozzle. Happy New Year!

I have an electric whole house humidifier for the top floor furnance but want to add a unit to the main floor furnance. The electric steam units consume GIANT amounts of electricity to heat the water into steam but they work great and are independant of whether the furnance is running. The Thermomist can only run when the furnance is generating heat above 120 degrees and thus it can not run long enough to increase the humidity. I have a digital humidistat to track the humidity. Before turning on the Thermomist it read 15% btw it was 25 degrees outside, after running for 10 hours it never got above 18% - just way to dry and well below my desired 30%. I ordered the higher output nozzle but it made no difference. In talking with Field Controls tech support the mfg of this device they told me the thermomist would be a great energy saver over the high wattage steam units. This, in fact, is wrong. Fact is, it takes energy to make the water evaporate - that energy can come from your furnace in the form of hot air or via electric via the steam humidifiers. Yes, the mist does evaporate but the air the is sent to the rooms is MUCH 15 degrees by my reading cooler. It makes sense - no energy is free so for the water to evaporate it needs energy from somewhere. Lastly, the remote nozzle leaked. Nothing to do with me - it was internal to their nozzle / union. I had to re-tefflon tape it and the piece was hard to tighten because of its design. PPS - the unit comes with a VHS video tape about the install. Does anyone have a VHS player any more? I don't anyway. Save your money. I'm buying another steam unit for the main floor instead.
