It can be used to communicate between home automation, or other third party systems, and Somfy's RTS Motors and Inteo line of controls. When you purchase Somfy Remote-Controlled Shades, they come with a handheld remote (IR or RF, depending on which option you choose). If you'd like to control your shades through any other method, you will need the Somfy's Dry Contact Interface.

Don't Have Somfy Remote Control Shades?
You've automated your lighting, security, and entertainment systems, but if you're still getting up and crossing the room to close your shades, you haven't truly discovered the ease and pleasure of home automation. By installing motorized shades powered by Somfy, you'll enjoy privacy with the press of a button, and adding shades to windows has numerous advantages, including energy savings, since your air conditioning won't need to work as hard if the sun isn't beating in directly.

    Why Automate Your Shades?
Save energy on air conditioning by putting your shades on a timer! Close your blinds during that time of day when the sun is shining directly through your west-facing windows. The Elk M1 Gold Security System/Automation Controller, for example, has the ability to control your shades based on time, temperature, motion, phone call, or click of a mouse.

    INSTEON Control
The I/O Linc - INSTEON to Somfy RF Drape Control Kit enhances your INSTEON network by allowing you to remotely operate drapes, blinds and other window coverings powered by an I/O Linc and a Dry Contact Interface for Somfy RTS Motors.

Also had issue with battery dead after 3 weeks of infrequent use. Spoke with insteon tech and determined that Somfy device wants *momentary* contact, whereas I/O Link ships with default latching mode. Changed I/O link from latching to momentary per manual and so far so good. Would interested to know if Somfy 3v lithium battery can be replaced by 5v feed from I/O link without damaging it. Seems to be done in this kit, but it does not show Somfy connection in detail and I did not buy the kit to look inside. Anyone have feedback on this?

I used this with an IOLinc to automate some somfy blinds. First of all, the box is really huge to hold what is really a small handheld remote with wires soldered to the buttons. Second, the battery went dead in about a week and a half, leading me to modify it to supply power from the IOLinc instead of using a battery. Other than that, it was easy to setup and has been working fine.

Used with a Item # 2450 Somfy Dry contact controller. Read directions carefully for both units as the order you perform the directions are key.

I am in the middle of a whole home remodel which incorporates 14 motorized blinds using seven of these controllers. My hope is to control the amount of light and heat in the home, thus reducing energy costs. Having already established a Houselinc network in my home, these Somfy controllers are the perfect solution. There are limitations to Somfy controller that I discovered which are worth mentioning. First, the unit currently shipping does not have the wiring in place to allow the I/O linc to power the Somfy controller you must still use the internal battery. Using a soldering iron, this is a simple fix, but I'm pretty sure it voids the warrantee. Second, due to the limitations of the I/O linc, The shades are either opened or closed with nothing in between. A second I/O linc will allow for this function, but in my situation it's not really necessary. And finally, although programming shades through Houselinc is very straight foward, it is necessary to put a delay of roughly 30 seconds between tasks to elimate RF interference between individual controllers. These limitations are minor, and in no way would prevent me from buying, using or recommending this product.

Works perfect for control of my Sunsetter awning.
PIERRE -- carleton place, ON   7/30/2011
the instructions were fine for me but quite vague. I did not install my awning so I did not know how to pair it up at first. I had to call the awning vender to get those instructions then the setup went very well. It is now hooked up to my Stargate.
JOSEPH -- new york, NY   6/20/2011
The box is 80% larger than the electronics, but it works as advertised. Problems with wiring instructions have evidently been fixed.
    Travis -- Texas   3/29/2011
Limited to 3 inputs. Works okay for drapes but if you want to use it on blinds, you need something with 5 inputs... up, down, stop, tilt up, tilt down Might even need a tilt stop as well.
    Bob -- Pennsylvania   10/19/2010
Documentation is wrong. If you read 2 different instructions you get 2 different ways to program the limits. Very frustrating.
CRAIG -- la quinta, CA   8/21/2008
Circuit board mis-wired ground. Documentation incorrect.
