The Melnor 3290 Automatic Mechanical Rain Monitor is easy to install and use. Simply connect the Rain Monitor to your sprinkler between the hose and the sprinkler. Then, when the timer, such as the Electronic AquaTimer, turns on the water, the Rain Monitor automatically determines if the water should pass to the sprinkler or not. If there has not been much or any rain, the water can go through and the sprinkler runs like normal. If the cup collects 70ml of water (about ½" of rainfall), then the Rain Monitor prevents watering at the next scheduled watering time. The Monitor then resets and drains itself to begin monitoring for the following watering cycle. The Rain Monitor works with any electronic timer but requires no batteries to operate.
