Essential Info

Do you need to control an air conditioner, pool pump or electric water heater via INSTEON? The EZSwitch is a high current (30 Amp) relay module that responds to INSTEON and X10 On/Off commands sent through the power line. The module contains dual relays with available normally-open or normally-closed contacts. Thus, it is possible to switch both legs of a 220VAC 2-phase circuit, and control the load to be activated with either ON or OFF commands. Activating with OFF commands might be desirable in cases where a failure in the switch would leave the load energized. The module derives its internal power and communicates with the INSTEON network from the neutral and line 1 (hot) connections. Operation is similar to the INSTEON ApplianceLinc V2. The EZSwitch30 has a built-in power line interface and its programming and control are done through the power line.

While all the basic functions can be programmed manually, there are advanced programming options that you can achieve with the EZSrve, central automation controller. If you already have a central automation controller or a software package for your INSTEON network that doesn't have the correct parameters to program the advanced functionality of this device, you can download the free Simplehomenet Utility Suite which works in conjunction with an INSTEON Powerlinc Controller. (Note: The Simplehomenet Utility does not interface with the INSTEON Powerlinc Modem.)

    While there are relays available for loads up to 10 Amps, this is the first device on the market that can control heavy current demands up to 30 Amps via INSTEON. Now you can remotely and automatically control air conditioners, water heaters, and other high-draw devices.

    Local ControlMount the EZSwitch30 on or near the appliance you want to control; you can then turn the appliance on or off locally by pressing the set button on the side of the EZSwitch30.

    Easy ConnectionsThe EZSwitch30 has a built-in connection block with screw terminals. Just insert your stripped wires and tighten the screws, and you're ready to control your world.

    Not happy with the x10 compatibility of this device. It does not respond at least 30 percent of the time. I talked to the manufacture of this and there response was "X10 is not it's primary protocol" Very lame. They should stop promoting the device as X10 compatible.

    hooked up in parallel to my existing intermatic mechanical timer. now can easily turn on the pump remotely. device is like any Insteon device, easy to setup and use

    Was a bit fiddly getting the wires in for the pool pump when installed ina a waterproof box. Would like a version to go on to the water heater which has a 250v supply.

    I'm very happy with the product, but I wish the directions were more helpful with installation. Why can't they provide some instructions for for two or three installation scenarios? (I'm trying to install my EZSwitch30 on my water heater, which doesn't have a neutral wire, and is thus complicated.)

    I needed a good insteon device to control 220VAC for a hot water heater. There are only two turnkey solutions - EZswitch30 or ELK. I purchased the EZswitch30 because it was smaller than the ELK. I'm not sure that this was the correct choice. Issues with the EZswitch30 - terminals are weak and may not support 10 gauge wire stress - no indicator light to show on/off status - no easy way to connect wires through a conduit - I can't believe that unprotected wires into the side of this box would meet code - REQUIRES a neutral --- well not all 220VAC wiring has a neutral - I used the ground since it is a home run to the panel - but that is a hack - the alternative is to pull more wire. - communications to the unit seems unreliable - about 50% sucessful communications - no X-10 bridge - my purpose in adding the EZswitch was to IMPROVE reliability of communications to the hot water heater control but now my remaining X10 devices are LESS reliable because I replcaced the 220VAC X-10 switch that had a bridge The ELK is bigger, but may be more reliable and wooud not have the probem with no neutral - BUT this one will require a nearby 110VAC outlet. EZswitch is recognized b the ISY-99i but not by the Houseinc2 which I have running as a backup controller. Before this purchase I was tempted to build my own unit much like the ELK, but I felt that a turnkey solution would be less effort!

    Installed to controll swamp cooler. Old x10 modules worked with every time out a hitch for 5 + years. This device does not respond about 30% of the time. Leaving the swamp cooler either on or off for until reset. For as much as this cost I extected better.

    I highly recommend this well-built product and Simplehomenet as a responsive manufacturer. My switch had a frequent lock-up issue when turning on an A/C unit and I called the manufacturer directly. Their response was fast and direct and indicative of their genuine customer orientation. Happily, my installation is now working flawlessly and Simplehomenet has put the fix in their production to totally eliminate the lock-ups. It’s refreshing to see companies stand behind their products so passionately.     Purchase the product to control a Pool Pump. Unit hangs 30% of the time, requiring a power reset.
