Essential Info

Programmable sprinkler controllers are convenient, because you don't need to be at home in order to water different areas of your lawn properly. But if it rains unexpectedly, you run the risk of overwatering and damaging your property. The Rain8net 8-Zone Irrigation Controller is a modular 8-zone sprinkler controller module that can be controlled over the Internet by any computer. This expandable irrigation system allows non-X10 control of 8 zones directly from your PC, which must remain running to control the irrigation schedule. Schedule watering using automation software, such as HomeSeer (sold separately).

Environmental data is automatically downloaded from the web to allow a more informed irrigation schedule. Normal watering periods can be altered based upon current conditions such as wind speed, day of the week, forecasted rainfall, and several other criteria to assure that water is dispersed only when needed. Access your system remotely to control any or all zones and to verify status.

Additional modules (sold separately) may be daisy-chained to provide control and 24 VAC power to as many as 2040 irrigation zones from a single COM or USB port.

This irrigation controller provides non-X10 control of your sprinkler system from your PC. If you have an X10 system and want to include irrigation in your home automation system, use the Rain8 2-way X10 Sprinkler Controller instead.

I found this very easy to install and very reliable.

I have not used the controller in a irrigation application yet. I have hooked it up to computer and simulated a irrigation schedule in house and controller works great. A few weeks and it will get tested in the field. Thanks, John B.

I'm a programmer so this controller was perfect for my sprinkler system project. The Rain8Net controller did the job but unfortunately it's 'very sensitive' to any electrical static. So when there is a storm outside, cross your fingers that your controller will respond the next time you try to use it. There is a Rain8Net pro controller now that stops this from happening but I believe it's unfair to charge twice as much to build in surge protection when this appears to be a fault in the original design. I've had 2 of these within a year burn out so I'm going back to the old school controllers. =

The directions are horrible. If I were a computer engineer, they MIGHT make sense. But, for the do-it-yourselfer, forget it. And the configuration software doesn't do much for you at all. Unless you already have scheduling software or want to spend big bucks on scheduling software, this may not be right for you. It isn't much good as a stand-alone unit with their configuration software. It probably would make a good addition to an already-existing home automation system, though.
