The Digital Sun SS10-K S.Sense Starter Kit adds intelligence to the watering process and makes your yard into a Smart-Lawn™ by measuring the moisture in the soil and working with the existing controller to water only when it is needed. S.Sense can keep the sprinklers off after it has rained or make sure that your lawn is getting enough water during the really hot part of the summer. The S.Sense System is designed to work with your existing sprinkler controller to reduce water wasted and keep your landscapes healthier.

Most controllers, no matter which brand, tend to work in the same way. Your existing controller uses a simple timer to turn on and off the sprinklers in different zones depending on the time-of-day and the day of the week. It does not know if it is raining, or if the lawn is still wet. It only knows: if this is Tuesday at 7:15am, turn on the water in Zone 1 for 8 minutes, Zone 2 for 10 minutes, etc. Your existing controller is set to turn on the valves at a specific day of the week, time of day, and duration for each zone. The S.Sense Receiver works within that window and doesn't allow the valves to turn on if the lawn has enough moisture to last until the next scheduled watering.
