Essential Info

Don't let your houseplants die of thirst due to your busy lifestyle. The Deluxe Plant Watering System is ideal for people who can't always be there to care for their plants. Since it waters up to 14 different indoor plants automatically, you'll know your plants are watered whether you're on vacation or just too busy to remember. At an average rate of flow, the Deluxe Plant Watering System can water 14 plants for two full weeks, yet this system is compact enough to be portable.

Please note: When the system is watering for 30-60 seconds each day, the motor noise is definitely audible, so you can either program it for every 24 hours (watering during the day) or plan the 12 hour time frame that is most convenient. Unless you are a heavy sleeper, don't program the plant waterer to go on during sleep hours as it may be loud enough to wake you up.

The Deluxe Plant Watering System has a 7-liter tank capacity that uses an electric pump to water up to 14 potted plants automatically. An advanced water control system enables accurate flow, while individual adjustable taps regulate the amount for each plant. The taps insert into the soil and have nozzles that release an adjustable amount of water to each plant every 12 or 24 hours, as specified. You can even use multiple taps for plants in large pots, if desired.

A long, 65-foot hose connects the plants to the Deluxe Plant Watering System. Taps are inserted at user-specified intervals to accommodate the plants to be watered. Connect the power adapter, and select the amount of water to be dispensed every 12 or 24 hours. The Deluxe Plant Watering System does the rest, shutting off automatically when the tank is empty. The water is delivered in short bursts at 30-second intervals in order to allow time for the water to sink into the soil. Since the system isn't overly heavy, you can easily set it up whenever you're going to be away.

Works great, a little noisy so don't set for night. Am ordering another.
    JENENE -- odessa, TX   7/1/2008
I love the system, however, your tubing is cheap and needs to be of better quality. It' kinked in a couple spots, which effects performance. We will be purchasing better tubing and I think all will be well.
KEVIN -- oland park, IL   3/31/2008
Loud when running. Timer varies one hour plus or minus per day
    JAMES -- marquette, MI   3/22/2008
I had to repair a minor water leak at base of unit
GEORGE -- idaho falls, ID   3/22/2008
This was our second unit. The basic units are great but they still use the same cheap tubing. I went to Lowes and got some heavy walled tubing and everthing is fine.
    LANA -- poulsbo, WA   3/17/2008
It was a little tricky to set up. But I love the convenience. Wow.
    RUTH -- brandon, MN   2/14/2008
We were away from home for 4 weeks and the unit worked pretty well. It took a little figuring to go from the english system to metric. The only negative thing is probably that the valves are not that easy to adjust as they are pretty inconsistent in the adjusting and arent of the best quality. But overall we are very satisfied with it .
SHAHID -- new york, NY   1/14/2008
Works as described, excellent for what it cost, and it is really valuable for watering plants when away. Our plants look great though we see them once a week. I am disappointed that one must have it water every day - we may put it on a separate timer to lower the frequency of watering. The tubing is inexpensive and can kink. The valves do not regulate flow very well, but they work.

At first I wanted a watering system for the week I was away, but now I use it all the time...it waters so regularly and never forgets, so it does better than I could ever do!

The Plant Watering System worked just as we had envisioned, and proved very useful for unattended plant watering while I was on vacation. Installation/callibration took about 2-hours (includes mitigation of minor problems). Minor problems: Supplied plastic tubing is curled and has to be un-curled with a hair-dryer to be used; otherwise, the force of the tubing-curl tends to pull the sprayers out of the plant pots. Many of the sprayers were difficult to adjust and would spray at differing angels as adjustment was being made, requiring the sprayer to be re-positioned in the plant pot. Once everything is adjusted it works really well! P.S. I plan to buy natural rubber tubing to replace the unruly plastic tubing.
    SEPPO -- camas, WA   1/3/2008
The provided hose was kinked and does not appear to be of good quality.
JEFFREY -- kennett square, PA   12/13/2007
Much better design than the gravity feed model that I purchased last year
MICHELE -- san diego, CA   11/5/2007
I was very glad to have this system to take care of my plants while I was on vacation. I would have liked it better if the spickets actually closed more, no matter how tight I closed them it seemed like the water flow was the same and the first plant in the line would get the most water. But it did its job.
    CHARLES -- reston, VA   10/4/2007
    It makes too much noise
    MAXWELL -- washington, DC   9/27/2007
A little noisy, but seems to work well.
MARIA SOLEDAD -- new york, NY   9/10/2007
My plants survived my week of vacation just fine
    MEHRDAD -- boston, MA   8/26/2007
The pump is very weak and somewhat useless
    Bryan S -- pittsburgh, PA   11/30/2010
Ran great after a LOT of fiddling. Right after the warranty expired, it did too. Its junk, no way to repair, find a better made product.

Briefly: It's purpose in my opinion is watering plants while you are on vactaion upt to 3-4 weeks, depending on number of plants and their appetite for water or when you can't take care of plants every day for some reason. It is not made for taking care of plants in small apartment or where you want it to be inconspicious. Pros: 1 It does the job - plants stay watered for long time without anybody home. 2 Water gauge is quite accurate. My 8 plants needed about 300 ml of water daily 10 oz, and total amount of water consumed in 2 weeks matched the specification. Cons: 1 Flimsy hose. I replaced it with a clear vinyl tubing from Home Depot 1/4 ID, 3/8 OD. It is a little loose, so I put on short pieces of the original tubing on watering taps, and put the 1/4 ID tubing over. 2 Takes time to adjust the water flow. There is a Test mode - it opens the pump for 30 seconds, this is usually too much, plants will get soaked by the time you've done. Cutting power off resets the pump, so this was what I did - plugged and un-plugged the power cord while in the Test mode, for a few seconds each time, until the water flow from each tap was to my satisfaction. After a few days I adjusted some taps - judging by soil wetness, and then again and again. Took me about 10 days in total to make it close to what plants needed. 2 Loud pump. It will wake you up in small apartment, no matter what room you sleep in. Like I said, it is in my opinion for watering plants while you're away, - not when you're home. 3 Some re-arrangement of plants may be needed, because the water tank has to be placed higher than plants. Timer is not very accurate - watering time shifted by a few minutes every day, and from the initial 7 pm it shifted to 9 pm after 2 weeks. I don't consider it a con - loud pump won't disturb you if you're not home.

I needed it for watering 8 indoor + 1 balcony plants in my condo on 2-4 weeks vacations. It did this well, - I give it3 out of 5. Cons: 1 Takes time to install cutting tubes, fixing valves with some clamps to prevent stakes from popping out AND to adjust the valves. Even after a week of monitoring and fine tune-ups one plant was soggy after the vacation but all other were OK. 2 I wish it had 150 ml setting between 100ml 3.5 oz and 200ml 7 oz, and watering option every 2 days, rather than once a day. 3 Flimsy stock tubes. 4 Inaccurate timer - mine was rather 24 hours 20 minutes than 24 hrs, as it shifted gradually to later time, from 5 pm in the first day to 7 pm after a week. Considering noisy pump, it CAN wake you up if you are home, but this didn''''t concern me. Tips: 1 Replace the stock tube! It is thin, may kink and block the water flow. I went to Home Depot and bought 20 ft of clear Vinyl tube 3/8 Inner Diameter * 1/4 Outer Diameter. It is a little loose, so I used the stock flimsy tube as an insert/gasket: put it on the valve connector, cut up to the length of connector, and put the clear Vinyl tube over it. 2 Allow yourself 4-5 days to adjust the valves. Shut them all off turn clockwise, then open 1 full turn anti-clockwise. Turn on the Test mode, it opens the pump for 30 seconds. First 5-10 oz will simply fill the tube, and you won''''t see much water out of the nozzles. Some valves will pour, some will drip. It will re-set when unplugged, so you may set it on 200ml as well, and plug/unplug while adjusting - it distributes 200ml in 4-5 intervals, one interval is enough to adjust one valve. Adjust each valve one by one. Switch the unit off or unplug often while doing this, or it will swamp your plants for many days. If yo can''''t adjust some valve to little output, switch it with the plant that can take more water. After 1-2 days you will see the soil condition, and tune-up valves as needed. Check again next day. Then again. After 1 week of monitoring/adjusting I went on vacation and one plant still happened to get too much water. 3 Don''''t forget to place the unit so that the output nozzle is on the level or higher than the highest valve. 4 You may want to group the plants on some low stand close to the unit. Mark each pot at the bottom according to its number in line -1,2,3 etc. Next time you''''ll need less adjustments. What else? Ah, yes - it is made apparently in UK that''''s why milliliters, 200 ml= 7 oz, and marketed in UK under a different name for about US$25 - so don''''t be surprised by sales and promotions from Smarthome. I don''''t know anything better for this particular task, anyway.
