Essential Info

Wifi-ThermostatThe Intwine Energy IECT-210 Intwine Communicating Thermostat, Basic is a full-featured internet-connected programmable thermostat that offers affordable comfort at the click of a mouse. When programmed properly the IECT-210 is capable of saving homeowners 15-20% on heating and cooling costs or close to $200 annually (Energy Star). Realizing these savings has never been simpler with the ability to remotely monitor and control the IECT-210 with Intwine's consumer web-portal and iPhone app! With the IECT-210 and Intwine's connectivity solution, there is finally a completely flexible platform capable of simultaneously fulfilling the needs of both energy providers and consumers.

Remote Access and Control
The Intwine Energy IECT-210 Communicating Thermostat comes with a free basic monitoring services package - allowing you to check on your current energy status anytime from your computer or from a mobile device via a web portal. Additionally, the Intwine Energy IECT-210 Communicating Thermostat comes with a premium control service for free for 30 days upon registering through the web portal. After the first 30 days, an annual fee of $15 is required for the premium control service (but not the basic monitoring services); The premium control service is sold separately through Intwine Energy.

IECT-210 vs IECT-220
Intwine Energy also offers a variation of this thermostat, it is the Intwine Energy IECT-220 Wi-Fi Communicating Thermostat, sold separately. The IECT-220 has a larger touch-screen, and it displays on-screen text messages which allows it to act as an in-home display for other Intwine devices, while the IECT-210 does not have this capability. Also, the IECT-220 can send alerts when new HVAC products like air filters, etc. need to be purchased, while the IECT-210 cannot do this. The IECT-220 measures humidity while the IECT-210 does not. The IECT-220 supports up to 3 stages of heat and 2 stages of cool, while the IECT-210 only supports 2 stages of each.

More Info

The IECT-210 programmable communicating thermostat operates via a high-quality, easy-to-use touch screen. To program or adjust your IECT-210, simply touch your finger firmly to the screen. The screen will automatically light up and you will hear a beep. The screen will respond differently to different types of touches, so you may want to experiment by touching it different ways, finger, fingernail, etc. Do not use a sharp or metallic device; it will scratch the screen.

The IECT-210 works along with other Intwine Personal Energy Network devices on Intwine's intuitive consumer web portal. Intwine's iPhone application gives users additional control on the go. Web-based access empowers users to manage energy usage with direct monitoring and control over the largest loads in the home: heating and cooling.

Very simple registration and installation process Intwine's connectivity platform enables two-way communication between utilities and consumers to strengthen this relationship.
The web interface and connectivity software can be customized tomeet utility and OEM needs. An expansion slot is also available to interface to various networks.

Large, easy-to-read LCD touch screen display works with nearly any HVAC system including traditional furnaces and heat pumps.

Please Note: This thermostat requires 24VAC power from the HVAC system to operate (most systems label this a 'C' wire, however please note that many Trane systems label this wire 'B'). An external 24VAC transformer can also be used. The current Wi-Fi set-up process requires a PC.

The documentation is useless for the wifi connectivity. There is nothing on the website that helps. I will try with my third security protocol this weekend. WEP and WPA have not connected. There needs to be weekend support for the WiFi connectivity. At this point I need to give you a poor rating because of the wifi issues.

Couldn't get the device connected to the internet.
MARK -- lafayette, CA   2/3/2011
The device looks good, but the instructions assume a higher level of knowledge regarding computers and computer terminology than I have, and I have not been able to tie the unit into the internet. The instructions also say that technical assistance is available 24 hours per day, which is not the case.

I purchased 3 of these and they are great. Two are in our home in Canada and one here in the US. It's great to be able to raise the temp. in our house in Canada when the weather is getting really cold and have it nice and warm when we arrive. Intallation was very easy. I only had two wires to the thermostat so I had to provide an external power source to the units as I had no power wire to the thermostat. This is necessary if you are going to use the Wi-Fi feature. A 12VAC/1000Ma Power Adaper did the trick. The only problem would be if you didn't haved an electrical outlet near by. Also you need a PC to program the Wi-Fi Module(very easy). Also got the very cool intwine app. for the iphone for added convenience. I would highly recommend this to anyone who has the need to adjust the temperature of a house when you are away from home. Also works with AC which I do not have.

i returned it... Intwine's customer service was non-responsive.
DAVID -- austin, TX   10/13/2010
Great for remote control thermostat, user interface could be easier
JOHN -- medway, MA   10/13/2010
Seems to work well so far. I had problems initially getting the common wire to work, supplying non-battery power, so I wish the unit would indicate in some way whether it is operating on battery or not.
Rick Blevins -- North Carolina   4/2/2012
Everything worked well until new website was setup. All my functionality was lost and it has become a 179.00 regular thermostat. So far the support has been no help and I would not recommend this product. Go with one you just access without someone elses website. Less secure but you dont have to rely on someone else either. I would love to hear from others since the update and ses if they are also losing the functionality.

This unit is EXACTLY the same as the Filtrete 3M-50 Thermostat sold at Home Depot and other stores for $99.95. The only difference is the top and bottom covers that have been changed to look different. The comments left on this unit are the same as the 3M-50. It is hard to get the unit to talk to the network without talking to Tech Support. The people at Filtrete were very helpful and I managed to get my unit up and running within 15 minutes after I called them.
Rickyble -- winston salem, nc   11/28/2011
I installed and configured this thermostat. I has worked flawless since. The only thing is you need a c wire feed for use with wifi. This you do not find out until you purchase. I ended purchasing an external 24v hvac transformer for 8 bucks. Other then that all was pretty seemless.
George -- United States   11/25/2011
Somehow I managed to set the temp to 65 degrees we live in upstate NY - I am now unable to adjust - either via internet or from the device itself - I am an IT professional - this is really an overcomplicated piece of junk.
troym -- elizabethtown, ky   10/31/2011
i own two of them and getting ready to buy two more it is the best thermostat ive owned very easy to set up never had a problem has saved me money
thom -- Denver   10/27/2011
I bought a 3M50 from my local Home Depot same device in hopes of replacing my aging/limited programmable thermostat with something that had a few more features. I had so much fun setting it up that I ran out and wrote my own software to control it. The unit works well and the WiFi link is solid. The only hiccup for some will be the need to run 24vac to the box in order to power the radio. There is great documentation on the web on how to accomplish this. If anyone is interested in my Mac OSX status application, it's called thermoStatus and is available on the app store.
HappyWithPurchase -- Georgia   8/17/2011
This is exactly the same as the 3M50 Filtrete thermostat available from Home Depot for $100.

I recently purchased the Intwine wireless T-Stat. I had an issue configuring the WiFi device and contacted technical support. I spoke with their tech, Mike who was very friendly and HELPFUL. He emailed me specific instructions on how to make changes on my router to make things compatible. I still had a couple of issues because my T-Stat wiring did not have a power wire from my unit. Once again, Mike was helpful in resolving the problem and sent me an external power supply to use. So even though there were some hiccups in getting my new WiFi T-Stat operational, it was a good experience working with the committed tech support stat, Mike. Everything is working great now and I can honestly tell people that this is a good product and most of all say, that the Tech support is behind it to solve any problems that you may have along the way. Thanks Mike.

This thermostat lost power and defaulted to Heat on at my vacation home. The heat ran for 6 days straight. The temperature in my home when I arrived a week later was 99 degrees.
dsv -- maine   1/20/2011
Was easy to install. However the $15 annual fee for remote control of the device seems excessive. Also unfortunately after having it installed for a little while, I found this less expensive and exactly the same hardware for 1/2 the price. Do yourself a favor and buy this instead 'Filtrete Wi-Fi Touch-Screen Programmable Thermostat'
Doug -- lake arrowhead, CA   11/1/2010
I purchased the Intwine IECT 210 to replace a decade old and unreliable X-10 thermostat at my mountain vacation home. The Intwine was as easy to install, setup, and use as advertised. Just follow the instructions step by step, have a good WIFI signal, have your computer nearby for the setup, and have the required 24-volt power to the thermostat. My objective with this remote thermostat is to turn on the heat before I arrive and open the door to a warm place. So far so good in my few uses to date. I highly recommend this product based upon my limited use. My only concern with this product is the company and the product are both relatively new. Ongoing access to the support website by Intwine is critical to the thermostat having practical value and the website is likely dependant on Intwine staying in business. One suggestion to Intwine is to have better description of what the free basic website will do. You might also consider a cheaper fee for limited use such as I am using this thermostat for on and off a few times a month during the winter.

can it use remote sensors?
