Easy to install. Wanted a remote controllable thermo and this looks like it will work.

Bought this as a controller for the upstairs thermostat which is rarely used. Figured 7 day programming would not be necessary there. The single day programming is comprehensive, though 5+2 day programming might have been more useful. Pros: Easy to install Works well Good value Looks great there is also a separately available faceplate if you need lots of add-ons if you choose to use them Cons: no battery backup, which means you must have 24VAC common available see add-a-wire product, which could help you if you don't have one and you lose programming with power loss. No RS1 channel, which is the channel to receive and average multiple wireless thermostats see venstar wireless receiver and wireless thermostat. This was a negative for me, since I wanted to have it measure the temperature in the upstairs bedrooms, not the hallway where it is mounted, but that is impossible with this unit. That is not mentioned anywhere in the manual or online, so I subtracted 1 star.

This unitrequires a five wire hookup. Any A/c qualifed person can make this connection. Together with the telephone controller, this is the best product on the market.

I bought three of these along with three Insteon adapters. A few segments on one of the LCD displays did not light up. I contacted Smarthome and they promptly replaced it. No hassle at all. I have the ISY home automation controller and I use programs in the ISY to raise and lower the temperature. There is no reason to buy the 7 day unit if you are using the ISY. The clock has no battery back-up so if power goes out the time is lost. But because I control my thermostats via the ISY this is not an issue for me. The ISY has battery back up. I don't think I would recommend this thermostat if you need to rely on the thermostats' internal clock to raise and lower your temperature, especially if you live in an area where power outages are common. The description says something like the "red " button raises the temperature and the "blue" button lowers the temperature. The "red" button is more like pink than red and the blue button is a light blue. At first this kind of bothered me but I'm used to it now. A separate reddish-orange LED lights up when the thermostat calls for heat. The LED is very easy to see, thus it is easy to see when the thermostat is calling for heat.

works great but not a direct replacement - needs seperate 24 power source and relays installed for standard A/C.

The t-stat was easy to use and program. When it came to wiring it was not so easy, the directions should tell you that on a 2 wire system you will need to have a third wire for a common which will give you the power to the t-stat.
