Essential Info
The Jackson Systems DFK-4 Smart Kit™ is the most versatile and easy-to-install dual fuel kit on the market. Smart Kit can be used with heat pumps and fossil fuel furnaces having up to 2 stages of cooling and 4 stages of heating. A snap track and double-back tape for convenient installation, along with quiet relay technology, LED auxiliary heat indication, and easy-to-read, screw terminals for simple configuration. Smart Kit includes an adjustable outdoor thermostat to provide compressor lockout. An optional adjustable discharge air sensor is also available to temper the air during defrost cycle. Smart Kit™ works with both O and B heat pump reversing valves and has a five (5) year warranty.

Sequence of Operation in Heating
OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE ABOVE OUTDOOR THERMOSTAT SETPOINT
2 Heat / 1 Cool
When the space thermostat calls for heating and the outside temperature is above the setpoint of the outdoor thermostat, the heat pump will operate as first stage heat. If there is a call for second stage heat, or if the thermostat is placed in the emergency heat mode, the Smart Kit will automatically terminate the heat pump operation and start the furnace.
3 Heat / 2 Cool
When the space thermostat calls for heating and the outside temperature is above the setpoint of the outdoor thermostat, the heat pump will operate as first stage heat. If there is a call for second stage heat, the second stage compressor will be energized. If there is a call for third stage heat, or if the thermostat is placed in the emergency heat mode, the Smart Kit will automatically terminate heat pump operation and start the furnace.
OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE BELOW OUTDOOR THERMOSTAT SETPOINT
When the space thermostat calls for heating and the outside temperature is below the setpoint of the outdoor thermostat, the heat pump will be locked out and the furnace will become first stage heat. The furnace will remain first stage heat until the call is satisfied.
BLOWER CONTROL
The Smart Kit will stop the blower anytime it switches between heat pump and furnace operation and the blower will restart at the proper speed.
