Essential Info

INSTEON Open/Close Sensor is a magnetic contact sensor that wirelessly controls lights and appliances throughout your house. When magnetic contact is broken, such as a door or window being opened, Open/Close Sensor can do things like turn on lights, set the thermostat to its comfort setting, or receive text message alert on your smartphone (requires INSTEON Hub). Gain the peace of mind knowing that you'll be alerted when the back door sneaks ajar or the side window slides open. Useful for doors, windows, drawers, sheds, cabinets, and anything else that opens, Open/Close Sensor is a wireless, easy-to-use solution for adding convenience and awareness to any INSTEON-controlled home. An AA battery is required and included. TriggerLinc controlling lights How it works In the example illustration above, Open/Close Sensor is mounted to a door frame and the included magnet attaches to the door. When the magnet is separated from Open/Close Sensor (door opening) it sends a wireless RF signal to the nearest Access Point or other dual-band product (sold separately) which in turn relays the signal over your existing power wires to turn on linked devices such as lamps or wall switches. When the door is closed, Open/Close Sensor turns those same devices off. While at least 1 dual-band product is required when using an RF transmitter, at least 2 are recommended to ensure a reliable INSTEON network. Please note that INSTEON Wireless Open/Close Sensor (2843-222) is the new product name and number of TriggerLinc (2421). The product and functionality are the same. Required Accessories For the best INSTEON network performance, be sure you have properly installed at least two Access Point or other dual-band product. Note: Open/Close Sensor does not transmit X10-compatible RF signals.

How it Works Simply install a battery, adjust the settings (jumper) based on your application, link Open/Close Sensor to other device(s) on your INSTEON network, and then it is ready for mounting. Open/Close Sensor has been pre-configured (default setting) to turn on a light (or other INSTEON controlled device) when your door is opened (magnetic contact is open) and off when the door is closed (magnetic contact is closed). This default setting is great for doors, windows, garage doors, sheds or closets where you want the lights to turn on when the door is opened and you can be sure the lights are off when the door is closed. Open/Close Sensor's second setting allows for a more custom type of control: Turn on (or off) one set of lights or devices when the door is opened and turn on (or off) another set of devices when the door is closed. For example, this feature provides uses such as: • Have lights turn on when you open the door, but leave them on when you close it • Have lights turn on to full bright when you open the door, and dim them to 50% when the door is closed • Plus many more INSTEON Open/Close Sensor also contains an input for standard security sensors, so you can monitor many doors / windows from a single Open/Close Sensor. Certifications and Warranty All INSTEON Open/Close Sensor products are safety approved. The factory for SmartLabs Design Products is ISO9001 certified. Because of this passion for quality, INSTEON stands behind the entire Open/Close Sensor line of products with a full 2-year warranty.

    LEONARD -- saratoga, CA   7/5/2014
    Works great so far.
    SCOTT -- menifee, CA   7/3/2014
Easily installed, just think through the location beforehand. Orientation of the magnet isn't as critical as might be expected: I have two where the window/door type dictated rotating the magnet by 90 degrees on the long axis to make installation possible. Just test fit until you're sure the mounting positions will function reliably before attaching permanently. Functions properly and is supported via UDI's ISY series controllers. I gave four stars only because I don't know battery life, yet.
    KENNETH -- leesburg, VA   5/9/2014
generally working fine, but I cannot get one of them to stop sending alerts. I cleared out the phone number but I still get a text alert. Also the range seems to be an issue and I have a hub and extender.
JEFFREY -- kennett square, PA   3/6/2014
Easy to mount and easy to program, but you do need an "access point". Fortunately I already have a number of them in my system
    JOHN R -- drexel hill, PA   1/11/2014
Turns on my shed lights automatically when I open my door. and acts like a alarm and notifies me of entry. Great when I'm away.
SERGEY -- walnut creek, CA   1/9/2014
great product. Works well. Could be smaller. Installation is very easy using included double sided tape. If you need to catch exact closed position you might want to put magnet a bit apart from the sensor. Just find a point of triggering by moving magnet closer and away from the sensor.
    THOMAS -- carlisle, MA   12/30/2013
works fine. Just a tad expensive though
MARLES -- agua dulce, CA   12/30/2013
Works really well stock. I modified it to text and email me when my house alarm goes off. That also works really well. Thank you, John
    RICK -- arvada, CO   12/29/2013
Works great! I now can have my hall lights come on whenever I open the closet door.
    TIM -- louisville, KY   12/8/2013
Fast responsiveness, great for any need for a contact closure. I'll dock it one star for the size. There are very few contacts on the market that are small enough to blend in. This, at least, leaves you the opportunity to skip the wiring.
NICHOLAS -- cedar grove, NJ   12/7/2013
I wish these were around when I decided to hardwire door switches into all of my closet lights. These are perfect when paired with an In-LineLinc. No wires to run, not chiseling a switch into the door jamb. Just stick up the Sensor and Magnet, wire the In-LineLinc and add the Linc as a responder. No problem with communications over that range and its a cost effective alternative to hardwiring.
BREWER -- long beach, CA   12/7/2013
Connected to my SmartLinc software and has worked since without a problem.
CLIFFORD -- marina del rey, CA   12/5/2013
Also outstanding. A little big, and the white color keeps it from blending in to background, but technically outstanding.
TARIKH -- long beach, CA   12/4/2013
The product arrived quickly. Practical and simple design. Product works extremely well for my application of triggering one light.
JOHN -- la jolla, CA   12/3/2013
Works great. very reliable. I use it to turn a closet light on/off when opening/closing the door.
    RONNY -- pflugerville, TX   12/1/2013
Great addition to my home automation and security system. Installation is a breeze and I was able to utilize existing door triggers/push pins from an GE Security system instead of the magnet.
    TODD -- hibbing, MN   11/30/2013
The open close sensor has worked wonderfully on our detached garage. I use it in conjunction with our smarthome camera to tell me when someone is in our garage and to let me know when my wife is home. It is very responsive, I get a txt message almost instantly when I open the door.
JOHN -- san francisco, CA   9/6/2013
Does the job, works perfectly. No issues.
Alvin -- salt lake city, UT   8/30/2013
I wanted to use my trigger linc with it's external sensor input to detect door open and door close for my mailbox to help prevent ID theft. Got it all setup and then got to reading the temperature specifications on this thing. It only goes down to 32F. The upper range is 104F. In my climate, the temperatures outside at the mailbox range from -20F to 110F Salt Lake City, UT, so this will not work and possible permanent damage may result. I'm an electrical engineer and I design communication equipment for the military... if you want to shoot your Ethernet router or switch out of a bazooka, I'm the man you hire. It is not hard to design equipment using industrial temperature ranges that go from -40C to 85C... which would more than cover the range. If Insteon would design an industrial temperature range sensor, it could be used outdoors... and the parts would cost only a bit more. I know, because that's what I do for a living. Anyway, I'll use this device indoors so I won't waste it, but I'm disappointed. I should have research better.
    JOE -- metuchen, NJ   8/28/2013
Does what it suppose to do.
