The PC Timer System includes a PowerLinc Controller V2, a standalone home automation interface that connects to your PC via USB connection for controlling lights, appliances, heating/air conditioning systems and alarm systems. INSTEON and X10 Modules Supported Smarthome's PC Timer System software supports both the INSTEON (patent pending) and X10 protocols, allowing both systems to be used as your system evolves.
Intuitive Software Using the software to set up timed events is intuitive and easy. Smarthome's software team went through rigorous testing to ensure that newcomers as well as advanced home automation enthusiasts would be able to set up and use the software in a few quick steps.
Sunrise and Sunset Settings In addition to scheduling events based on time of day, you can also use the PC Timer System to trigger events based on your geographic location. After entering your location and time zone (by nearest major city), you can have your outdoor lights automatically turn on at dusk and turn off at daybreak or your bedroom lights can slowly ramp on in the morning to awaken you from your rest. As the sunrise and sunset times change throughout the year, the PC Timer System compensates automatically! Not only is this convenient, it saves money and energy.
Security Mode Smarthome's Timer Software allows you to trigger a vacation mode for added security. Once activated it will randomize your timers within a 30-minute window allowing any X10 or INSTEON modules to turn on at different times to give your home that lived in look while you are away.
Specifications The PowerLinc Controller V2 and the Smarthome PC Timer System software runs on computers that use Microsoft Windows® 98se, Windows 2000 or Windows XP Home or Professional. It does not run on Windows "server" versions of 2000 or 2003. And because it uses Microsoft's Human Interface drivers that are already in use on those systems, you won't have to install any additional drivers or worry about conflicts with other hardware or software. The PC Timer System software is configured to work optimally on the Intel Pentium 4 systems with 256MB of RAM. A CD-ROM drive is required to load the software.
Safety Tested and Factory Certification The PowerLinc Controller V2 is safety tested and approved. The assembly lines for Smarthome Design Products are ISO9002 certified. In order to meet the ISO 9002 standards, the entire factory underwent rigorous inspections of procedures and policies before being thoroughly audited. The certification received was based on its dedication to high-quality management systems and strict adherence of quality systems and guidelines.
Developer Information If you are interested in developing software for the PowerLinc V2 USB or Serial or for more information about becoming an INSTEON developer, please see the following pages for more information: Developer's Kit USB, Developer's Kit Serial, and the Prototyping Module - Isolated Power.
Using PowerLinc V2 USB with DirectX Input Devices We have found an incompatibility between the PowerLinc V2 USB and certain USB input devices that are used by programs running Microsoft's DirectX system. When running a game that uses USB input devices like joysticks, we recommend unplugging the USB cable to the PowerLinc V2 USB. While we have not tested all possible combinations of Microsoft's operating systems and versions of DirectX for compatibility, we still recommend unplugging the cable to the PowerLinc V2 during game play.
Note: This part number has changed from 2414UG to 2814U.
