The PC Timer System includes a PowerLinc Controller V2, a standalone home automation interface that connects to your PC via USB connection for controlling lights, appliances, heating/air conditioning systems and alarm systems. INSTEON and X10 Modules Supported
Smarthome's PC Timer System software supports both the INSTEON (patent pending) and X10 protocols, allowing both systems to be used as your system evolves.

    Sunrise and Sunset Settings
In addition to scheduling events based on time of day, you can also use the PC Timer System to trigger events based on your geographic location. After entering your location and time zone (by nearest major city), you can have your outdoor lights automatically turn on at dusk and turn off at daybreak or your bedroom lights can slowly ramp on in the morning to awaken you from your rest. As the sunrise and sunset times change throughout the year, the PC Timer System compensates automatically! Not only is this convenient, it saves money and energy.

    Security Mode
Smarthome's Timer Software allows you to trigger a vacation mode for added security. Once activated it will randomize your timers within a 30-minute window allowing any X10 or INSTEON modules to turn on at different times to give your home that lived in look while you are away.

    Specifications
With your purchase of the Smarthome Manager Essential, Timer, you will receive information on where to download the required software. The PowerLinc Controller V2 and the Smarthome PC Timer System software runs on computers that use Microsoft Windows® 98se, Windows 2000 or Windows XP Home or Professional. It does not run on Windows "server" versions of 2000 or 2003. And because it uses Microsoft's Human Interface drivers that are already in use on those systems, you won't have to install any additional drivers or worry about conflicts with other hardware or software. The PC Timer System software is configured to work optimally on the Intel Pentium 4 systems with 256MB of RAM.

    Safety Tested and Factory Certification
The PowerLinc Controller V2 is safety tested and approved. The assembly lines for Smarthome Design Products are ISO9001 certified. In order to meet the ISO 9001 standards, the entire factory underwent rigorous inspections of procedures and policies before being thoroughly audited. The certification received was based on its dedication to high-quality management systems and strict adherence of quality systems and guidelines.

    Developer Information
If you are interested in developing software for the PowerLinc V2 USB or Serial or for more information about becoming an INSTEON developer, please see the following pages for more information: Developer's Kit USB, Developer's Kit Serial, and the Prototyping Module - Isolated Power.

Using PowerLinc V2 USB with DirectX Input Devices
It is advised that you unplug your PowerLinc from your PC's USB port when playing games that use Microsoft's DirectX system while using USB input devices like joysticks.

For Mom and Dad's outdoor lights - they'll love it! No more changing those pesky plastic timers!!

The device does work as designed, however, I was purchasing this with the idea that I would replace all my X10 stuff with Insteon only to find out that this device does not allow you to create and store macros. WHAT! Why not? You can set an On/Off time and brightness for something but that is it. If the old X10 stuff could do it then this device should be able to do it too. It has caused me to step back and halt my conversion to Insteon products. And yet my X10 gives me headaches when something noisy such as an outdoor low voltage transformer is connected. If I read this stuff correctly Insteon might fix that problem. I use macros more than anything else such as at night while sitting down to watch TV and later when I go to bed there is a whole sequence of events that occur to light my path to the bedroom then turn it off 5 min later plus other lights. I could do this with a scene in Insteon but then I'd be in the dark in the LR or have to go and turn off stuff manually because scenes don't have the capability to delay and do something later but that's what the macro is supposed to do. I understand you can do this if buy additional software, leave it connected to your computer but then you also have to leave the computer on 24 X 7 something which I find completely unacceptable. I see that there is yet another device you can buy and hook up with a PLM which can eliminate the need for a computer but this is now getting rediculously expensive and for what? The Insteon modules are already 3 times the price of a comparable X10 device. Make the device do what it needs to do please! I feel that this device is not finished nor really ready for market other than for the simplest of scenarios. It also angers me that Smarthome (or whomever the powers that be) will not release any information on upcoming enhancements or products. So as a result, I will not be purchasing any more Insteon until I see for myself that ALL the functionality is available that I had with my X10 system. I really can't go backwards now--what fun would that be.

Works flawlessly. I'm using it with the Indigo software on a Mac.
    JAMES -- st-lambert, XX   12/7/2007
    software crashes on win xp
WILLIAM -- beverly shores, IN   11/30/2007
The timer is fine. It works as advertised. The software user interface is a little clunky. It could be easier to use.
    TODD -- atlanta, GA   10/6/2007
Works well. Would be nice if it came with the CD rather than having to download
    DANIEL -- glendale, AZ   10/4/2007
If I could get the Sunset/Sunrise function to work the product would be completely satisfactory. Three session with tech support hasn't solved the problem. Apart from that I'm very satisfied.
    T. ROBERT -- phoenix, AZ   9/24/2007
Unreliable operation, does not always run program
    GL -- reston, VA   12/15/2007
Why does this have to be so hard? The free software would not install on my Vista machine (zipdll.dll error). After installing on my XP laptop I was surprised to find that the s/w would not recognize the previous configuration loaded onto the PowerLink V2 several months ago. I don't have time or patience to reconfigure all of the devices and timers using this Soviet era interface. Is there any better s/w out there that allows programming of the v2 without having to keep the PC on???
    PATRICK -- lawrenceville, GA   7/6/2007
I am still trying to get used to some of the features of the timer. One thing I noted is that you can only variable programs to 15 minutes before or after (sunset for example). I would like to see that extended to up to 59 minutes,or more if possible. Additionally, sometimes I experience issues where the timer stops working on the timer after I manually control lights with the controllinc. Overall it's great still, except I would like the ability to program the timer from another application. (like Housebot).

Timer works better that my old X10 ActiveHome setup. Smarthome Manager needs some work. It needs to have some of the functions that X10 had. I used to set my lights by month. When a new month started I just loaded that month and my lights changed to the new setup times. I also have Mcontrol, and I don't want to have my PC on all the time to have my lights turn on and off.

This item as well as other items I have received have poor instructions included. However when I call tech service I am very pleased to find that they appear solid in their knowledge of the workings of the items and are very helpful in solving any problems. I will continue using Smarthome products for the simple fact that I can depend on your techs if I find myself in trouble. Thanks, R C Stewart
    STEPHEN -- monaca, PA   4/26/2007
easy setup, getting some bogus "on" commands when other X-10 devices are used in our home; haven't spent any time trying to troubleshoot yet but I assume it can be corrected with a short call to smarthomes excellent tech support staff!
    Jim -- mechanicsburg, PA   4/6/2007
Program has several short falls short as not being able to view all schedule events on one screen, making changes to existing events is cumbersome and several screens to go through to create a new event. Smarthome has other programs that are more user friendly such as Smarthome Manager Plus CD-ROM - Item# 1132CDP.
    PHILLIP -- bloomfield, NJ   2/11/2007
works fine. Using it primarily for existing X10 products.
    TOM -- Northern Virginia   1/19/2007
USB unit, signal enhancers and lamp dimmeer were easy to setup and have working within minutes. This assumes you have downoaded the software already and are ready to use it. Instructions are a little confusing and you need to know that there is no lamp dimmer built into the signal enhancers. Signal enhancers do nothing but strenghten the signals, you will need lamp dimmers, toggle switches and appliance outlets actually to control things. Got it for Christmas and had it working within minutes after reading all the instructions and downloading the software. Recommend this to anyone interested in auto control of their house.
CLARENCE -- chenango forks, NY   1/4/2007
    It work real well.
DAN -- sherman oaks, CA   12/27/2006
easy to install, works out of the box as advertised
    DANIEL -- seattle, WA   12/20/2006
    Love it. Simple and reliable.
    RONALD -- antioch, TN   5/17/2006
    Good
