Essential Info

Do you find that you forget to turn on certain lights at dusk or to turn them off during the day? Timers can be helpful in scheduling lights to turn on and off at regular times, but they can be difficult to install and program. For easy installation and control, the Dusk to Dawn Photocell Light Control screws into a lamp base, and its built-in photocell will automatically turn the attached light on at dusk and off at dawn. No additional wiring is required. The Dusk to Dawn Photocell Light Control is for use with candelabra-base bulbs, sold separately.

Most of these dusk to dawn screw in controllers will not work in the light is not vertical. If you have a fixture above a door that has a horizontol socket, and you try to use this it will not work beyond one cycle. I have three different types and have tried them on CFL's and regular lamps and for some reason they work fine in an upright or hanging position but not on the other type. Now I will ahve to return all of them and get my money back. Has anyone else had this problem?

Light control solved our problem-Sunlight sensitivity
ARTHUR -- rochester hills, MI   5/31/2010
Unfortunately, the Light Control was not what I had hoped for. It is designed to work with standard incandescent light fixtures whereas I need devices that work with candelabra base fixtures. But when I returned the devices, you folks graciously initiated a refund. As far as ratings are concerned, I was happy about the swift placement of my origianal order and the speedy delivery. The only fly in the ointment was my error in assuming the devices would work with our candelabra base exterior light fixtures. But many thanks for asking.

    works good
    STEVE L -- Virginia   1/4/2008
Description does not mention that the male tip is for a standard light bulb socket, NOT a Candelabra. So, if you have an outdoor light that requires Candelabra bulbs (like me), then this product will not work for you.
    PAUL P. -- north miami, FL   12/28/2007
Size is perfect for those not-so-big post lamps. Fits perfectly!
    MICHAEL -- waldorf, MD   11/23/2007
The photocell works fine but the amount of light provided by the highest wattage available for the accepted bulb type was not sufficient for my needs. I wanted to use these on outside lights near my garage door but I could not find a bulb that would provide enough light. It could be that the photocell reduces the amount of light produced. I wasted money on both the photocells and light bulbs.
    EDWARD -- macungie, PA   7/18/2007
Device drastically reduces level of light. Does not work well as dusk to dawn controller on outside lights. every other aspect of dealing with Smarthome was superb.
BETTINA -- san diego, CA   9/25/2006
Unfortunately, this produt will not serve my purposes (I need it for outside lighting). This is my fault for not reading about it enough in the first place. I'm happy to hang on to the item because I may use it in the future!
    COLLEEN -- anaheim, CA   5/17/2006
The quality was fine - it was what I needed. Thank you.
    DONALD -- asheville, NC   4/2/2006
A good photocell for the price. One should not use too bright a light with a photocell, or surround the photocell with surfaces that can reflect light back into the light sensor; to do either may cause the light to flicker or dim, as reported by some reviewers.
    STEVE -- evanston, IL   2/15/2006
    Works as advertised
