Install in-wall volume controls, receptacles, and switches with the contractor's choice for residential retrofit projects: the Carlon Zip Box Blue™ nonmetallic switch and outlet boxes from Lamson & Sessions! Designed for use with nonmetallic-sheathed cable in accordance with Article 370 of the current National Electric Code (NEC), this four-gang box is manufactured from high-impact lightweight PVC with clean and easy knockouts. Simply cut a hole the same size as the outside of this box, push the wires through the built-in cable clamps, place the box into the wall, and tighten the mounting screws. No patching an oversize hole!

You Won't Find This Box at Your Local Hardware Store Carlon’s Old-Work box has features not found in commodity-grade electrical boxes like those available at most home improvement centers. For home automation uses, it has a generous amount of interior space (68 cubic inches). While having more space in the electrical box is not always absolutely necessary, it sure makes your job easier when installing X10 receptacle modules and volume controls, both of which are larger than non-automation devices. Additionally, this box is fire rated, making it suitable in fire walls (for example, the wall between the interior of a house and the garage).
Combine High and Low Voltage Devices in One BoxIt’s often convenient to combine both high- and low-voltage devices in one Old-Work Box. According to the National Electric Code, electrical conductors can share an outlet box when the conductors and communication cables are separated by a barrier within the box. Just slip the low voltage divider plate into place, and you have your barrier! It comes in a distinctive orange color, allowing inspectors to immediately know that high and low-voltage conductors are on opposite sides of the divider and installed in an accepted format.
