Essential Info

The Leviton PR150-1LW Single Pole Wall Switch PIR Occupancy Sensor uses passive infrared (PIR) detection technology to monitor a room for occupancy. The device automatically turns lights ON when a person enters a room and OFF when they leave. This saves energy, provides convenience and lowers electric bills. The PR150-1LA are suitable for indoor use only. The occupancy sensor is ideal for any room in the home that would benefit from automatic "hands-free" light control, such as in bathrooms, closets, laundry rooms and garages. The PR150 installs in place of a single pole switch, and it can be used with incandescent and fluorescent lighting (Rapid Start Magnetic ballast ONLY).

It can be used in a variety of residential applications, including:
  • Bathrooms
  • Basements
  • Pantries
  • Garages
  • Utility/Laundry Rooms
  • Dining Rooms
  • Hallways
  • Closets

    How It Works
How It Works: People naturally emit a small amount of infrared heat. As a person passes through the field of view, the sensor detects the motion as a change in the infrared background and responds by switching ON area lights. After the field of view is unoccupied for a user defined time, the sensor will automatically turn OFF the lights.

    Automatic ON/OFF Operation
The units turn lights ON automatically when motionis detected. When motion is no longer detected, lightsremain ON for a selected time (from 15 sec. to 15 min.) then automatically switch off.

    Passive Infrared (PIR)
Infrared occupancy sensors are passive devices designed to detect the movement of heat-emitting bodies. They are installed to monitor areas where there are no physical obstructions to block the sensor’s field of view.

    Field of View
The PR150 provides a 150° field of view and 350 sq. ft. of coverage.

Good detection range. Fast and quiet switching operation (incandescent lights only).
    MATTHEW -- rialto, CA   6/13/2011
They work as advertised. Easy to install. Time adjustment is concealed by the faceplate, so time adjustment must be set during install unless you want to keep taking the face plate off.
RIZWAN -- chula vista, CA   1/19/2011
Solid performer. Decent range on the sensor as well - maybe 6-8 feet.
    RICHARD -- oakland, MD   8/26/2010
Item works well but doesn't work with compact fluorescent bulbs. This is not made clear either on the manufacturer's packaging or the information on your web site. I had to call leviton to confirm this. Then they told me the model that works with the cf bulbs. You sell that model but it cost about 3 times the one I bought.
    -- montreal, QC   7/6/2010
Easy to Wire in and can set any time delay required. No markings on the timer though so it's trial and error to figure out the delay you want.
    BARRY -- naples, FL   7/3/2010
I used to run a small vent fan It did not work
    ROBERT -- poughkeepsie, NY   5/7/2010
Does not work well with fluorescent lighting. Purchased 24 of them and so far have had to replace 4 of them and probably more because the fluorescent lights flicker too much when the switch is in the sensor mode
ERIC -- la grange, IL   1/4/2010
Works well, even with fluorescent lighting. I did notice, however, when used on a fluorescent light in my cold basement there was a dim glow coming out of the light even when off. What I would recommend is that you only use it with incandescent bulbs even though it says you can use it with fluorescent lights.
    JASON -- lansing, MI   1/4/2010
This item is great. I have two friends who live with me and they ALWAYS leave the lights off. Well, now I have the lights go off automatically so I'm saving money everyday! Easy to install and works perfect!
ISAAC -- west frankfort, IL   11/23/2009
This was a replacement for a similar unit I have had for over 5 years and only failed because of lightning damage.
    JON -- carlisle, MA   11/23/2009
Very easy installation, and works reliably. What more could I want?
    JOSE -- fajardo, PR   9/21/2009
easy to install and good price
    FREDERIK 'T -- leiden, XX   9/13/2009
good value for money, easy to install.
    PHILIPP -- ridgewood, NY   9/3/2009
This was a breeze to install: three wires, two screws, and it comes with wire caps to splice the switch's wires to the existing ones in your wall. It took me 15 minutes to install, having never done so before, and now it works exactly as described.
DON -- montgomery village, MD   2/27/2009
This was exactly what I was looking for to control our laundry room light. It was very easy to install and the adjustments are nice to control how long the light stays on and the light sensitivity. I give it a perfect score.
    ALBERT -- watervliet, NY   5/17/2008
Timing was better than indicated. Very happy with your service.
    JOHN -- streamwood, IL   10/7/2007
This did not work. It flickers the lights rather than turn thrm on to full brightness and when it shuts off, it does the same thing. Off is supposed to mean off not strobe.
    JOHN -- greenville, SC   10/4/2007
One unit the kids managed to break off the switch operator tab.
    JOSEPH -- sykesville, MD   9/5/2007
This switch was simple to install, and works as advertised. The range of settings make it ideal for many applications (mine is in a walk-in closet).
JimmieJoe -- san jose, California   12/1/2011
This product work fine with magnetic florescent lights which are the old generation fluorescents. The people who are saying it does not work with florescent light are not using magnetic florescent lights. The product states magnetic florescent lights only on the package. People who are having issue with flickering, strobing and not turning off or glowing are trying to use the product with electronic florescent lights which are the new generation fluorescents, which includes compact fluorescents. I have had no issues with magnetic florescent light and this device. I did had all of the problems mentioned with electronic florescent, however, I found that as long as you have 1 incandescent in the circuit it will operate electronic florescents without issue. Such as an overhead light with 3 incandescent bulb you can replace 2 of the 3 bulbs with new CFLs and everything works fine and you just can not change all 3 bulbs to CFLs.
