Whether you're a seasoned DIY'r or new to home automation, SmartLinc - INSTEON Plug-In Starter Kit has everything you need to experience remote control of lights and appliances from inside your home, on your way home from the office, or halfway around the world on vacation. The SmartLinc Central Controller connects to an existing router (required) allowing for direct communication via the Internet or Wi-Fi from an iPhone, iPod touch or any other Web-enabled PC, Phone or PDA. With SmartLinc, you can check to see if you've left the lights on and even turn them off while you're at the office or you can simply dim the lights while relaxing on your couch. Included are two lamp modules which will each control a plug-in dimmable lamp and an On/Off module which will control a plug-in non-dimmable fluorescent light or appliance. From your web-enabled device, you can control the modules individually or as "scenes."

Expandability
Expand this SmartLinc kit to include control of other INSTEON dimmers and switches, wire-in / outlet modules, plug-in modules, low-voltage input / output control, control your thermostat, display power consumption of an appliance, control the garage door and much more.

Easy To Install
The SmartLinc - INSTEON Plug-In Starter Kit is so easy to install and set up and yet so affordable, you'll want to automate your entire home with INSTEON-compatible products. Each of the modules included with this kit simply plug-in to an existing outlet, with the SmartLinc also requiring a connection to your router. Following the included instructions, start linking the included devices to your web-enabled phone or PDA (designed for optimal use with an iPhone or iPod touch) to control your INSTEON network from almost anywhere. Adjust brightness levels and ramp rates that create awesome lighting scenes or simply create timers based on when you are home or by sunrise and sunset.

    Please Note: This kit is designed for SmartLinc to receive signals from your router via your iPhone, iPod touch, web-enabled phone or PDA. It will in turn send out an INSTEON signal that will communicate with the other included INSTEON modules. If you plan to install the included modules on different electrical phases in your home, or plan to expand your INSTEON network to control other lights or appliance on separate phases, we recommend purchasing a pair of Access Points to ensure reliable communication.

    First unit was a dud, but was quickly replaced. The interface on this isn't the greatest, hence the 4 stars. Once you get used to the quirks though it works nice. I used the mobilinc iPhone app works nice. Just took a little getting used to.

    Pretty cool. The kit components work fine, i am struggling with adding additional components. For example, I purchasedthe thermostat and Insteon radio for the thermostAt and I am being told I need yet another component to make it work with my central controller...yet to resolve this. Also purchased a wired dimmer, switch works perfect from the wall, works intermitantly by remote control...won't buy any additional priducts until these are resolved to satisfaction.

    Pro - able to gain access on personal network and remotely with ease (after reading about port forwarding), very quick on PCs and Apple devices, slow on Palm. Con - not all scenes work properly (ie dimming feature does not work correctly in room 3 slot 3), only one thermostat is programmable and the "program" feature does not even carry over into the smartlinc interface, only "Off, Auto, Cool, Heat" show up. Had to locate Smartlinc controller at circuitbox to get all parts of house to work.

    Works fine but there needs to be more information online for programing the controller and more information about what it will do and will not do. I am looking to get a more sophisticated controller in the future.

    Great product, worked perfectly right out of the box. One quibble -- the network setup was not trivial -- expect to do some reading up on port forwarding for you home network.

    Considerably easier than the older automation controllers that downloaded timers from PCs. I like the website the controller generates, although it's light on some features (like having the timer on set a specific dimmer level). Hoping to see firmware updates in the future that improve the interface, but it's quite sufficient to start with. It was a breeze to set up - I had the first test working in about 5 minutes.

    Works great. Haven't had any missed on/off events due to noise that I was getting on my X10 system. The only thing missing is a way to get a print out out the on/off time of the modules. rg

    My only regret is that this included two lamp dimmer modules instead of all appliance link modules. I knew this when I ordered it since there wasn't another option. I only wish I'd known how difficult it was to locate lamps with dimmers. Overall the system is great. I have yet to work out the port forwarding need to control things from away from home.
