Essential Info

Don't loose an entire freezer full of food in the unfortunate event of a freezer failure. Whether it's the freezer in your kitchen or the one you have in the garage, the INSTEON I/O Linc Freezer Failure Sensor Kit can send an INSTEON signal to your home network to notify you of the concern as soon as the temperature in your icebox reaches above 39° F. In addition to wasted food, a failing freezer can have ice buildup inside that can quickly turn to water when the temperature inside rises, possibly causing damage to your floor if the water were to leak. As part of your INSTEON home automation network, this kit will act as an early alert system, triggering lights or appliances to turn on in the event that your freezer fails.

How it Works
Simply place the temperature sensor in your freezer and it will identify when the internal temperature goes above 39° F. Once that happens, the contact switch inside the sensor will send a signal to I/O Linc via the included connector wire. The I/O Linc can then be linked on any INSTEON controlled device, letting you know the moment there is a problem.

Temperature setting of this unit is too high. Long term storage several months of frozen food should be done with constant temperatures of 0 deg. F or -18 deg. C. I feel that it should be set to about 20 deg. F or lower. By the time the freezer temperature is up to 39 deg. F it's getting risky. You don't have time to go out and buy another freezer, or move the food to a neighbour's house. SmartHome does not have a similar one with a lower temperature for use in a freezer. Too bad that this one isn't at least adjustable.

Lifesaver - My vacation home freezer stopped for some unknown reason? and I just got an alert which allowed me to have a neighbor get someone to fix it and save all our freezer foods we have meat and tons of stuff. This was invaluable to us. Our whole home is INSTEON stuff and it really makes taking care of a home remotely easy.

This unit is a Insteon module and the standard temp sensor. Works OK, but more pricey than other options. I have gone back to the FF47 which works with all the X10 systems and seems to have slightly better temp sensitivity/ less false alarms. Otherwise this is on OK unit and if you have decided to move to full Insteon compatibility, this will work for you.
