Essential Info
If you're like most people, rising utility costs are hitting you where it hurts the most - your wallet! One way to combat skyrocketing utility bills is to use energy efficient CFL light bulbs and/or LED light bulbs (each sold separately) as a replacement for power guzzling incandescent bulbs. If you're already using dimmer switches, it's likely they won't work on the new energy efficient light bulbs and may actually cause lights to flicker, or even worse, cause damage to your bulbs or dimmer switches. By using this Keypad Switch Kit along with energy efficient CFL and/or LED light bulbs installed in fixtures they will be controlling, you can start saving on your electricity costs immediately. The KeypadLinc allows you to shut off the lights connected to each SwitchLinc (or up to four total INSTEON devices or scenes) from wherever you have it installed in your home - by linking all of your lights together, you can create an 'ALL OFF' button to ensure that any linked lights are off at a moments notice. SmartLinc takes things a step further allowing you to use your web-enabled phone or PDA (designed for optimal use with an iPhone or iPod touch) to access your network and turn your devices off from virtually anywhere. Additionally, SmartLinc allows you to set custom timers - limiting the use of lights based on when you are home or by sunrise and sunset. Please Note: While the KeypadLinc and SwitchLincs included with this kit can control incandescent, low-voltage and fluorescent bulbs, the real idea behind this kit is to utilize the On/Off (non-dimming) style of these switches to control CFL and LCD light bulbs. Easy Setup
The kit can be set up in minutes to control lighting in your home. Following the included instructions, simply plug in the Access Points and replace your existing light switches with the new INSTEON KeypadLinc and SwitchLinc switches. The On and Off buttons on the KeypadLinc will control the light on the light switch you are replacing. Each of the other buttons can be set up to control the other lights which the SwitchLinc switches control, either individually or at the same time. Once SmartLinc is connected to your router (required), it can control them all - link the included devices to your web-enabled phone or PDA and control your INSTEON network from almost anywhere.
How it Works
KeypadLinc sends signals over the existing power line to an Access Point which then communicates that same signal via radio frequency (RF) to a second Access Point (coupling your electrical phases). Both Access Points distribute the original signal to the SwitchLinc On/Off switches. SmartLinc receives signals from your web-enabled phone or PDA (via your router), and distributed in exactly the same way. NOTE: At least two Access Points are recommended (and included in this kit) to ensure a reliable INSTEON network across common two-phase home wiring systems.
Expandability
Expand this RemoteLinc kit to include control of other INSTEON dimmers and switches, wire-in / outlet modules, plug-in modules, low-voltage input / output control, and HVAC control to automate lighting and appliances, control the garage door, adjust the temperature and much more.
