Essential Info

With all the touchscreen tablets and smartphones on the market, why does anyone need a home automation touchscreen? - Because it is ALWAYS ON! Just try using a multi-purpose device for a few days and then switch-over to an always-on automation touchscreen, and you'll never go back.

TouchLinc is a highly capable touchscreen that just happens to be the least expensive home automation touchscreen on the market, with most 2 to 10 times more expensive. Easily programmed by you, the customer means you don't have to pay a dealer to set it up (increasing the price dramatically) or calling them to make simple changes.

Just because TouchLinc is affordable, don't think for a second that it is less capable. Other touchscreens have as little as 20% the resolution of TouchLinc. Many other touchscreens lack status and/or have clunky interfaces.

You can create as many Rooms as you wish, and then organize as many INSTEON scenes, events and devices into each room as you please. Each scene/device includes status feedback (when the button LED is Green, that scene/device is ON, LED Off means scene/device is OFF). For each button you can choose from dozens of available icons.

Please note that the active battery life while unplugged from power supply is up to 7 hours hours. HouseLinc PC software, the easiest to use INSTEON control software on the market, is currently required for programming/setup of TouchLinc.

New for Version 1.1
  • Scene Buttons (multiple INSTEON devices controlled by single button)
  • Wireless updates (Wi-Fi) of configuration (no more need to connect to your PC)
  • Unit comes fully programmed for easy out-of-box experience
  • Buttons can now be configured to always send ON, or OFF (in addition to the default toggle mode)
  • Buttons can now trigger HouseLinc Events
  • IOLinc sensor status now displayed (in addition to relay status)
  • Increased font size for easier reading
  • Pop-up messages for user-feedback
  • Application watchdogs automatically restart application if problem exists

How it works with HouseLinc
Use the TouchLinc properties page to add rooms, then add scenes, events and devices to your rooms. HouseLinc will suggest icons for you, but you can easily change to any one of dozens of available icons. Then choose whether you want the button to toggle between sending ons and offs, or always send on or always send off. Finally, if the button represents a device, you can set the on level, ramp rate or other applicable settings for that device.

When you are done making your selections, simply press "Save to TouchLinc" and HouseLinc will automatically find your TouchLinc on your home network and save the settings to HouseLinc wirelessly over Wi-Fi. Please note that links are pushed to all devices using INSTEON, which may take a few minutes if making lots of changes.

If anyone wants some of these I have 2 gathering dust. Took them out of service after a frustrating 2 days, several insteon products shown as unrecognized by the houselinc software. Tech support unable to resolve Save yourself the money, I went to an ISY 944 IR pro and use an Android based pad with third party software, Mobile linc Pro. Worked perfectly no install problems at all. Junked hluselinc pro which seems to be the root of the problem. It's a shame, the touch screen itself is a nice unit let down by the crappy houselinc software.

This unit does not work with the current version of the software that it claims to designed for. I am very disappointed that SmartHome even sells this product anymore. Please save your money, it is not worth the money at all.
    JcR -- new jersey   4/8/2013
Don't buy it! The latest and only available release of houselinc does not support it. And it looks like a fix its not in their minds. I have been working for days trying to make it work and houselinc only shows it as unknow device, so all I have its a useless touchscreen that I can't do anything with. Its a shame that smarthome still sells it knowing that its useless at this point.

I bought a touchlinc arround November and still cannot work with houselinc!!! when it work? There is a release date?
    ken -- Iowa   1/31/2013
I have been working on this for longer than i would think one should ... with no rewards . I am afraid I just plain wasted a lot of money here and time .. I have had other products and had on problem .. this is as fun as a flat tire when it's 20 below . not ready for turn out here ...
    JOHN -- hastings, MN   12/21/2012
This thing is not ready for the market. I sent three of them back. Now with the Smarthome hub, I can do just about every thing with my wifes tablet as I could with the Touchlinc. As I said, I sent three of them back with defects. Needs to be re-thought.
    JOHN -- hastings, MN   12/2/2012
This product needs a lot of work. It's just not ready for rollout. I've had to send back three, and finaly ask for credit. It just doesn't work. If Smarthome ever rolls out the Hub, hopefully my wifes tablet with be able to do almost the same thing as the Touchlinc. John in Minnesota.

Tried 3 of these units battery life is very poor and very slow and software was very slow. Went to a used ipad and works much better

to complete the versatility of my setup automation using most of all Insteon Devices I added the Touchlinc . It works quite fine with most of the actuators . It recognizes all of them on the screen.... Controlling the devices from my PC ...they all are working fine I am using the Powerlinc USB 2413UH Dual Band There is no problem with the WiFi signal ... Controlling them with Touchlinc , Touchlic detects them but there are a few controllers that appear in the screen but do not actuate...nor ON nor Off for example In Line Linc On/Off Switch DUAL BAND model 2475SDB some advice ? Best Regards Hans

New Web based platform is a great improvement over TouchLinc
ERIC VAN -- oregon, WI   3/14/2012
Wrap-around USB connector kept causing the USB stick to disconnect and reconnect, every time causing annoying pop up messages on the screen. Also, there was a compatibility issue between HouseLinc and TouchLinc that caused other pop-up messages saying that v1.18 and v1.17 were not compatible.
    Mark -- spencer, MA   12/28/2011
Got as a gift from sister in law after doing live chat with SmartHome Agent who said would work with my set up. I made it clear I do not have HouseLinc I have just the Central Controller. They said it would work and it does if you go into the browser on the tablet but that makes no sense they made it seem like worked with icons as described. Called SmartHome and they were good about a return. Overall it is heavy tablet which is nice but uses Windows CE which is slow as molasses and you need HouseLinc no matter what they say. Apps for Android devices or iOS devices in my opinion are much more user friendly.
    B. Nielsen -- san diego, Ca   11/30/2011
This is a major issue from previous comment: you have to press a button each time you change rooms to see what's on and what's off.
Jim Speiser -- payson, AZ   10/20/2011
This product just isn't ready for prime time. It doesn't update the status of your devices on the fly; you have to press a button each time you change rooms to see what's on and what's off. Reliability is an issue as well. It seems to respond to commands about 50% of the time. And a battery charge lasts maybe 6 hours. Nice idea, poor so far execution.
    Jeremy D. -- san jose, CA   4/20/2011
I have the original release, which works as advertised and is decent. However, I think it will be terrific once the 1.1 revision ships.
