Essential Info

Do you want to add INSTEON remote control to your existing motion sensor floodlights / security lights? In-LineLinc Relay w/ Sense allows you to do just that to existing floodlight motion sensors or any other 120V switching sensor. All you need to do is connect In-LineLinc Relay w/ Sense to your existing sensor, the existing light (or other load), and power. It is very useful for turning on all the exterior lights when one of the sensors detects motion. Or, be notified anywhere in the world when someone is in your yard, using the Telephone Alert Kit. Whether you’re adding new sensors or converting existing ones, INSTEON compatibility will significantly increase the safety and convenience of living in your home.

Looking for something with more switching power or don't need a sense wire? We now offer a 20-Amp version: In-LineLinc Relay - INSTEON Remote Control In-Line On/Off Switch (Dual-Band). In addition to higher capacity, this new version communicates both power line and radio frequency for improved response speed and overall network enhancement.

A 2-Wire INSTEON Switch Kit (Non-Dimming) is also available (sold separately) which allows you to remotely control lights or appliances where a neutral wire is not present in the switch box.

How Does it Work?
In-LineLinc Relay w/ Sense uses its innovative sense wire to detect the presence of 120 volts. Once power is applied to the wire (from a motion sensor or other 120V-switching sensor), In-LineLinc Relay w/ Sense turns on its connected load as well as all linked INSTEON devices. It will also turn off its connected load and linked INSTEON devices when power is removed.

    Built with a Quieter Relay
Because the In-LineLinc Relay is built with a much quieter relay than most remote-control ON/OFF relays, it has a click that's more than 80 percent quieter than traditional relay switches. This allows you to control lights and other non-dimmable devices remotely without waking up the baby, annoying other family members, or sending your cat fleeing across the room. The click of the In-LineLinc Relay's internal relay is barely audible.

    Generates Less Heat
Unlike triac-based switches, the In-LineLinc Relay uses a hard-contact relay to control the load. Other switches use a semiconductor that absorbs about two volts of power and dissipates the heat through the front of the module. By using a relay, the device runs cooler and full voltage gets to the load.

The In-LineLinc Relay is fully INSTEON compatible and X10 ready. Homeowners with existing X10 networks can easily migrate to an INSTEON network without having to discard all their existing X10 devices. X10 ready means that the In-LineLinc Relay can respond to X10 commands from an X10 controller and it can send X10 commands to X10 devices. Please note that INSTEON devices repeat INSTEON signals but not X10.

    Non-Volatile Memory
All In-LineLinc Relay settings are stored in non-volatile memory and are not lost during power failures. Additionally, in the event of a power loss, the In-LineLinc Relay will return to its last on/off state when power is restored.

    Certifications and Warranty
All In-LineLinc products are safety approved. The factory for SmartLabs Design Products is ISO9001 certified. Because of this passion for quality, Smarthome stands behind the entire In-LineLinc line of products with a full 2-year warranty.

Works as advertised, but it could be so much better. If one could configure the sense input and relay output to be independent of each other like the IOLinc, one could control the load independently of the sense input. For example, one could detect motion any time day or night. One could then use their house controller to decide whether to turn on the load. One could also turn the load on or off at any time, independent of the sensor while retaining the ability to sense motion. This would be a trivial firmware change and shouldn't require any h/w mods to the module. It would currently take two in-line modules to accomplish this and there is no way these would fit into an existing junction box.

Good product, however the sense function is very sensitive to what voltages it must see in order to "sense". The sense leads must return to zero volts, and go to ~120 volts for a valid "sense" function, which makes connecting many of the currently available PIR devices impossible.
    MICHAEL -- ridgecrest, CA   1/19/2013
Works well, but as reported in another post does not work with The Home Depot Heath Motion Detector but works with the ACE Heath Motion detector
    RICHARD -- beavercreek, OH   12/27/2012
Have tested it in the house and works fine, I need it to warm up before installing it in my shed.
    MARK -- granville, OH   12/27/2012
Have not had the chance to work with this yet, but it is a little large to fit in a standard J Box along with the wire.
TIM -- san ramon, CA   12/6/2012
I've got a high-end motion sensor. Output of that to input of 2457s2 and now I have a high-end Insteon motion sensor. Rated good because it works as expected. if it lasts a few years it'll be worth an excellent.
JOSEPH -- van nuys, CA   12/2/2012
Perfect to control a device, yet still allow a motion sensor to do the same.
    JOERG -- martinez, CA   11/15/2012
Works great! Easy to install in a single-gang box.
JOSEPH -- van nuys, CA   11/11/2012
Great Product. Does what it's meant to do.
WAYNE -- round rock, TX   10/15/2012
The small size proved important. I was able to mount it in the junction box behind an existing mechanical timer and now I can link to the timer's on and off, can I can override it. (Wire the yellow sense wire to the timer's red output, and move the timer's load to this relay's red wire.)
CHARLES -- sun city, CA   10/5/2012
Works, BUT, for some reason is not compatible with the Heath-Zenith motion sensor which Home Depot sells. Works with a relay between motion sensor and the Inline switch. WHY???
    Wayne -- Idaho   9/18/2012
Works exactly as specified. I have an existing mechanical timer and was unable to find an Insteon device that replaced it with the features I want, but adding this relay and wiring the timer's red wire out to this relay's yellow sense wire in accomplished exactly the features I want. It was a bit of a trick to place this relay inside the junction box behind the timer, but, with about 30 minutes of pushing wires around carefully inside the box to make the most clearance, it all went together.
Mark -- The Catskill Mountains   9/16/2012
The sense function does not work quite as you would think. If you turn the box on with a controller and then sense sees a voltage, of course the box stays on but when the voltage goes away, the box goes off, even though no change was made on the controller. So if you hook a motion detector to the sense, your light will go off at the end of a detected motion. But you probably want the light to stay on no matter what if you've switched it on with the controller, right? Otherwise what's the point of using the controller at all? If the unit was already on, sense should not be able to turn it off. Also, I use a smartlinc as the controller, but when sense is activated and the box goes on, there's no change in its status on the smartlinc - even after a refresh. So it's on but I can't see from the smartlinc that it's on. I ended up disconnecting the sense.
    MICHAEL -- cincinnati, OH   8/23/2012
Awesome. Now I can turn off my flood with a double tap from the remote when we entertain in the backyard
    Keith Loritz -- Irvine   5/10/2012
If you are trying to hook up the Sense wire on this switch to a motion sensor with a triac output, forget about it. Sense needs 120 VAC from a hard switch or relay to work. Smarthome - Correct me if I am wrong! Could have simply put this fact in the description and saved me headache and time. Your tech department does not even know this important tidbit!
    RICHARD H -- lansing, IL   4/7/2012
I use a lot of these. The work well. have eliminated many switches with them.
    GLORIA -- keller, TX   1/17/2012
I am rating this a 2 star only because I had to return the part due to the fact I ordered it in error.
    JAMES -- uniontown, OH   1/13/2012
Works great and without the clicking sound of the older x10 switch it replaced.
TONY -- crystal lake, IL   12/29/2011
I did not realize that these have no way to mount them. Beyond that, it works great for my application.
    ALBERT J. -- mansfield, MA   12/27/2011
Great Product -Easy to install and setup. Used this device to turn on ceiling fan in living room when hot air furnace blower fan turns on. Installed within an hour.
