  • Control a ceiling fan and light without running wires for a wall switch
  • Fits inside most ceiling fan canopies
  • High, Medium, Low and Off fan speed control
  • Full dimming control for light kit
  • Featuring dual-band INSTEON technology for the fastest and most reliable performance

Essential Info

FanLinc is designed to easily incorporate both fan speed and light control within your INSTEON network. It is a dual-load responder simultaneously acting as a light fixture dimmer plus a 4 speed fan controller (Off, Low, Medium & High). Control the fan speed or lighting kit wirelessly from any INSTEON controller, be it a handheld remote or wall keypad. Tie it in with a computer controller that can trigger all the fans in the house to turn on (at a predetermined speed) to help circulate the air, reducing costs associated with running your air conditioner.

FanLinc is yet another great addition to the ever expanding family of INSTEON products. View all INSTEON products here.

fanlinc diagramHow FanLinc Works
FanLinc is compatible with most ceiling fans and installs inside the fan cowling between the fan and incoming power. You'll want to make sure you have access to both the fan and (if your fan has a lighting kit attached) the light control wires.

Before finalizing your FanLinc installation you'll want to link it to your selected controllers. Because you don't want to be removing your ceiling fan every time you want to add or remove links, we recommend using software such as HouseLinc to manage all of this from your computer.

Note: FanLinc is not compatible with fans that have remote control built into the motor.

Control Ideas
While there are a wide variety of INSTEON controllers to choose from, let us provide some suggestions...
  • For a truly wireless solution use a handheld 8-scene Mini Remote to control the ceiling fan from the couch, bedside or mount it anywhere on the wall using a wall mount bracket. Links between Mini Remote and FanLinc can be made manually however, software configuration recommended.

  • For a more permanent solution, go with an in-wall 6-button KeypadLinc. KeypadLinc replaces any existing wall switch and provides wireless communications to the FanLinc. Links between KeypadLinc and FanLinc can be made manually however, software configuration recommended. pre-labeled FanLinc buttons or Custom-etched keys are sold separately.

FanLinc Control Options

  • Unlock features and manage links, create events and more using hardware/software combinations such as such as HouseLinc or ISY-99.

FanLinc is dual band so it has the ability to communicate using both the electrical wires in the home (powerline) as well as using radio frequency (RF). This increases reliability not only for FanLinc but for all devices on an INSTEON home control network (similar to the function of an Access Point).

Install was simple and quick and works as expected. I have it set up to turn on and off automatically with my A/C and heater and it's really helped to better distribute the air around the house. Only drawback is that to set it up as a responder you have to physically access the unit, which means turning the fan off, getting a ladder, and taking off the base of the ceiling fan.
    RUSSELL L -- warren, OH   6/5/2014
This unit works very well and is easy to install the one draw back is it was a little tight to get in the space I had but with some little extra work I made it fit.
ALEX -- boynton beach, FL   5/29/2014
I wanted this out in the open where I could see the lights and modify the programming easily if I needed to, so I modified it to fit on the face of a wall switch box, where it's a little longer than I'd like, but suitable. It's less useful than I'd like since it doesn't accept X10 addresses for all speeds - just the highest speed - so controlling it wih the older Smarthome keypadlinc devices is compromised. I was not unable to get it to link with one of the two Insteon keypadlinc devices, which may be a fault of the other device. Overall, it's a great concept, but falls short of its full potential in my opinion.
Muromoto -- Seattle with 25+ Insteon devices in my house   5/25/2014
Seriously for a Factory Reest ??? BTW, if you mess up and start the fan it us usually about 4 inches from you head. 1 If possible, remove all links 2 Press & hold FanLinc light set button until it beeps LED will start blinking green 3 Press & hold the FanLinc light set button until it beeps again LED will start blinking red 4 The following three steps must be done quickly to the FanLinc light set button a. Double-tap b. Release c. Press & hold FanLinc will beep, LEDs and light will turn off FanLinc will beep for 5 seconds 5 Release after beeping stops Light LED will turn green Light LED will turn off FanLinc will beep-beep Light LED will turn green Fan’s light will turn on Smarthome - to you have the guts to publish and or FIX this?
Smarthome response: We hear your concern, Muromoto. Fortunately for you and your head, locally tapping the FanLinc buttons will not engage the fan. They are only used to set the state (albiet internally) for linking.
    CHRISTOPHER -- frisco, TX   5/16/2014
I now have almost finished retrofit of all lights fans, garage control, thermostats on a 5200sf house. Insteon with an ISY is a great combo and the Customer Service from Smarthome has been a great help when needed
    David -- atlanta, GA   3/5/2014
Too big. Fits in cowling but blocks the screw holes. Can't they make it smaller or make one to fit a single junction box?
    VANCE -- albuquerque, NM   2/22/2014
First item was defective (dead out of the box). Exchange took inordinately long, twice gave up trying to talk to service department on phone after waiting on hold (or should I say forget) for over an hour. Took ~2 weeks to get the replacement item due to the shipment of new item being contingent on confirmed receipt of defective item that was stipulated to be returned by prepaid shipping via USPS (instead of perhaps 2-day UPS or FedEx.) Replacement product works as advertised but I scored them poorly based upon their egregiously poor customer service capacity and substandard return/exchange policies.
    CHRISTOPHER -- frederick, MD   2/16/2014
Can't believe how easy it was yo install. The lights on the front are really bright so covered them with tape after the fanlinc was in place.
    SigSauerFan -- beaumont, Texas   2/15/2014
Have had two of these lose the high speed selection so far. One of the three still works for high speed. All still work on medium, low and off. Not sure what the problem is, but have yet to contact customer service without going to get a tall ladder and removing these from the installations.
ROBERT -- san diego, CA   2/14/2014
Works well. I read that this "brick" does not fit in some fans. I have three fans and it fits nicely in all of them. The instruction for programming them with a keypad dimmer could use a little work.
    VANCE -- albuquerque, NM   1/25/2014
First one was dead out of the box. I was lucky getting in touch with the customer service/return person relatively quickly the first time, but had horrid experiences after that, twice finally giving up after being on "hold" (would be more appropriately referred to as "Forget") for well over an hour. Ultimately got the new unit, but took longer than it should have since they used the "slow boat from china" return shipping method otherwise known as U.S. Postal Service.
MICHAEL -- front royal, VA   1/23/2014
Fan links are nice, I just dont like that I have to rewire everything, not a big deal since I am electrician.
JASON -- chula vista, CA   1/15/2014
Installation was simple and synced with insteon hub and keypadlinc.
    GILLES -- ottawa, ON   12/29/2013
Fast shipping, excellent products, very easy to install.
    Rich -- minneapolis, MN   12/10/2013
A nice device. I installed 2 of these and it took a bit of time for me to figure out how to make them fit. You'll likely need to consider adding a 6 button switch as a controller. I don't think programming this manually would be easy. I used an ISY for programming and consulted the ISY forum which had easy to follow instructions for how to setup the device to work with the 6 button switch. As mentioned, the lights are a bit bright and have the potential to be annoying - I covered them with a couple of layers of black electrical tape - problem solved.
    SHAUN L -- saint charles, MO   12/5/2013
Really like the insteon products. They are being continually improved. I am slowly upgrading my house with them
    DANIEL -- wilmore, KY   11/21/2013
I am so glad this product finally came out. It would be nice if they could make a micro version of it, like some of the others, but it works great
    JAY -- crandall, TX   10/17/2013
Easy install, those who complain about the module not fitting in the cover over the fan base are likely not orienting it correctly. It fit my small base fan very well when placed horizontally in the fan mounting bracket. One big minus is the hub app for Android does not recognize this as a dual function Insteon device, only the light is controlled by that app. Houselinc computer software does recognize and control both fan and light.
Smarthome response: The INSTEON team has told us that the next app update will include FanLinc support!
HARRY -- palo alto, CA   10/4/2013
Goes in quickly; works as advertised. They might consider reducing the form factor like they have done with the micro controllers; then this might sell better.
    Mike S. -- corning, NY   10/3/2013
Why is this incandescent only? I expect to be using my home automation system for many years to come, and incandescent is quickly going out of style. Almost all of my bulbs are already LED.
