Overview

  • Wires in line for lighting circuits without wall switches (e.g. recessed kitchen lights)
  • Control individual lights remotely, turning them on and off and adjusting brightness levels
  • Easy-to-install dimmer uses INSTEON technology for superior performance and reliability

Essential Info

This dimmer is designed to be installed within a junction box or in a ceiling fixture allowing you remote control over lights that may not have a direct connection to a wall switch. This allows you to pair the dimmer with any number of INSTEON remote controllers.

This dimmer controls incandescent bulbs. If you need to control a fluorescent light fixture or an appliance, try the In-LineLinc Relay.

Note: As with all wall dimmers, the In-LineLinc may feel warm during operation. Rigorously tested and approved to UL-standards, the amount of heat generated falls well within approved limits and poses no threat to your home or the lifespan of the device.

This dimmer can be used with dimmable LED bulbs to help you save even more energy. While performance may vary between manufacturers, we have found that Sylvania Ultra LED dimmable bulbs offer great performance with a wide and smooth dimming range. The Ultra LED series include the following types: Standard (A-Line), MR16, PAR16, PAR16 GUI10, PAR20, PAR30LN and PAR38.

    Easy To Install
The INSTEON In-LineLinc Dimmer is easy to install and set up. Its small size allows installation in a standard J-box or in a ceiling light fixture. Control each kitchen light individually or rows of can lights with a single INSTEON In-LineLinc Dimmer. Learn more about INSTEON here.

Perfect for Locations without a Switch
Whether you're planning to install recessed lighting or have already done so, you don't need to go through the hassle of running the wiring for a new wall switch. By installing an In-LineLinc in a fixture box, you'll be able to control the lights from any location in your home. Simply install the In-LineLinc in the fixture box, link it manually or via HouseLinc - INSTEON Desktop Software, and you'll be able to turn lights on and off and dim them using any INSTEON-compatible controller. For maximum personalized control, wire an In-LineLinc to each non-switched light for the ultimate in mood settings.

    Adjustable Ramp Rate
Adjust the speed at which the controlled light turns on or off, also known as the ramp rate. For example, you may want the light in the stairwell to turn on instantly so you can see where you're walking. Alternatively, you may want the light in the master bathroom to ramp up in a soft, gentle fashion so you're not blinded in the middle of the night. The ramp rate is adjustable between 0.1 second and 9 seconds if programmed locally. The ramp rate can extend up to 8 minutes (for a simulated sunrise or sunset) if programmed remotely. This is a great addition to your morning alarm, slowly turning the light on to help you wake up.

    Easy to Program
Programming an In-LineLinc can be easily done a couple of different ways. The Tap method is best for your initial setup. Simply go into linking mode on any INSTEON-compatible controller and then press the set button on the In-LineLinc for 3 seconds; the load and the status LED will flash. You are now linked and can control the In-LineLinc from the controller of your choice. Keep in mind that once installed in a fixture, the In-LineLinc will not be easily accessible, thus making new links and scene programming difficult. We recommend using software such as HouseLinc 2 - INSTEON Desktop Software to manage the links of your In-LineLinc after it is installed. Remember, you will need to have the INSTEON ID in order to program with software.

    Scene Lighting
Scenes allow you to control multiple lights, rooms or even the whole home with a single command. Because the In-LineLinc Dimmer can be a member of more than 400 scenes (i.e. "Movie Time," "Party," "Romance," etc.), you'll be able to launch various lighting scenarios with a single button press. These are elegant features usually found only in systems costing tens of thousands of dollars and requiring extensive rewiring of your home. All member lights can ramp to your independently desired brightness levels at your chosen ramp rate(s). So one set of lights can dim slowly, while another set turns off instantly, all controlled with one command from one button. If you want to control multiple scenes from one controller, we suggest the INSTEON KeypadLinc.

    Compatibility
In-LineLinc Dimmer is fully INSTEON compatible and X10 ready. Homeowners with existing X10 networks can easily migrate to an INSTEON network without having to discard all of their existing X10 devices. X10 ready means that it can respond to X10 commands from an X10 controller. Please note that INSTEON devices repeat INSTEON signals but not X10.

    Non-Volatile Memory
All In-LineLinc Dimmer settings are stored in non-volatile memory and are not lost during power failures. Additionally, in the event of a power loss, the In-LineLinc Dimmer will return to its last brightness level when power is restored.

    Certifications and Warranty
All In-LineLinc Dimmer products are safety approved. The factory for SmartLabs Design Products is ISO9001 certified. In order to meet the ISO9001 standards, the entire factory underwent rigorous inspections of procedures and policies before being certified. The certification received was based on its dedication to high-quality management systems and strict adherence of quality control systems and guidelines. Because of this, SmartLabs stands behind the entire In-LineLinc line of products with a full 2-year warranty.

    JAMES -- elizabeth, CO   5/12/2012
First time using the in-line dimmer with the switchlinc dimmer. They both worked great together. I had 3 can lights in a bed room sofit, the homeowner wanted to add a a ceiling fan but there was no way to get a wire to where the other switches were or even to supply power to the fan. I could not get down the wall. But I could get to the sofit where the cans were. So I made the switch leg going to the first can hot all the time, to get consistent power to the fan. and installed the IN-linelinc at the can. Then Linked the dimmer with the in-linelinc and had a remote for the fan. awesome!!

Good product, since is often not accesible when installed makes programming difficult
    JOSEPH -- tonawanda, NY   3/24/2012
the X-10 mode for dimming is poor on these I bought some of the obsolete X-10 units on eBay and they work a lot better and the old X-10 dimmer modules also work with the led dimmables.
CLAUDIO -- sao paulo, XX   3/23/2012
    Easy to setup. Great product!!
    MATT G -- carthage, IL   3/11/2012
small enough for my light boxes, and works as advertised!
    HERB -- houston, TX   3/7/2012
Used RemoteLinc remote, In-LineLinc Dimmers, and Access Point Phase Coupler to set up low voltage art lighting for automatic on/off/dimming and it works FANTASTIC! Easy, easy to set up and works like a charm! Great products!
    GREG -- wrentham, MA   2/25/2012
I've had several of these installed for some time and they seem pretty stable compared to other Insteon models.
    FRANKLIN D -- alpharetta, GA   2/6/2012
compact, fits nicely in a wall box and works perfectly so far after 2 weeks
BEN -- west bloomfield, MI   12/31/2011
Nice unit external buttons should be recessed so they are not depressed within the junction box.
    SEAN -- derwood, MD   12/26/2011
Part of a slowly expanding installation, these units were easy to install and set up. New users should ensure that they have a neutral wire and space for an InLineLinc before ordering (I checked and did) but otherwise these are a simple installation. In this particular case, the InLineLinc, the RemoteLinc, and the bracket were used to install a wall switch in a room that previously only had a pull-string light. Much nicer to have the wall switch – and even better not to have to pay for pulling cable. The control systems aspect was an added benefit. On the down side, the RemoteLinc switches have a markedly different look and feel from the SwitchLinc and/or standard switches. If your installation includes ganging the devices, know in advance that they won’t look ‘perfect’ and the different feel will be highlighted every time you operate the switches.
PIERRE -- carleton place, ON   12/22/2011
Used these to replace my X10 versions of inline switch. All have worked as planned. P.S. Make sure you write down the address before closing the box.
JOHN -- buena park, CA   12/1/2011
I use these for my driveway lights, and their small size easily fit in a dual gang box along with all the wiring. Simply works.
    CODY -- amarillo, TX   11/13/2011
This worked perfectly straight out of the box...
MARCOS -- rio de janeiro, XX   11/7/2011
Very good quality, work very well and easy installation.
    JOHN -- seattle, WA   8/25/2011
Unit is ok. Very specific to the application.
DAN -- las vegas, NV   8/22/2011
    works well
DUANE -- north bend, WA   6/13/2011
    not installed yet
    THOMAS W. -- jacksonville, FL   5/27/2011
I used four of these units in a media room to control Various lighting devices. I found the easiest way to use them is to mount them in a double gang box next to a duplex outlet. The old style allowed the line linc to be secured to the box, whereas the new style does not. A box divider is needed to keep the new style from contacting the adjacent outlet.
NORMAN -- farmington hills, MI   4/25/2011
    Easy to install. Worked perfectly
    ROBERT -- dousman, WI   3/30/2011
Works well, easy to program, customer service was very helpful.
