Overview

  • Bridges RF-only INSTEON devices with power line-only INSTEON devices
  • Uses 915MHz band for fast, reliable communication

Essential Info

INSTEON is a powerful, home-control networking technology that will enhance the comfort, safety, convenience and value of your home. The INSTEON Access Point (& Wireless Phase Coupler) is dual-band (RF + power line) device which is the most important part of the INSTEON network. When used in pairs, Access Points will couple the electrical phases across common two-phase wiring systems, allowing INSTEON commands to freely travel to all locations in your home.

Dual-band INSTEON products allow RF-only INSTEON devices to send (and receive) commands to (and from) power line-only INSTEON devices as well as repeat the commands to other RF-only devices. While at least one (1) dual-band INSTEON product is required when using an RF-only INSTEON device, at least two (2) dual-band INSTEON products are recommended to ensure reliable communication across common two-phase home wiring systems. For larger applications, it is recommended to install at least one dual-band INSTEON product for each 750 - 1,000 square feet.

The Access Point functionality is built into all dual-band INSTEON products.

Manuals/Software

What's Included

  • INSTEON Access Point (& Wireless Phase Coupler)
  • More Info

The INSTEON Access Point (& Wireless Phase Coupler) creates your dual-mesh INSTEON network by simultaneously transmitting and receiving INSTEON commands across both radio frequency and your home's existing wiring. When used as a pair, the Access Points also couple the two different electrical phases of your home. Each Access Point also repeats INSTEON commands, adding to the network's robust reliability. Please Note: Access Points repeat INSTEON signals and not X10.

Control All of Your Lights From Your Couch
Using a INSTEON RemoteLinc Wireless Remote Control (sold separately), the first wireless remote to send INSTEON commands to your lighting and appliances to control them remotely, you'll be able to turn all INSTEON-compatible devices in your home on and off at the press of a button. The Access Point bridges the RemoteLinc's RF signals to your home's power line, delivering power and scene commands to INSTEON-compatible devices throughout the house.

    White status LED
The LED is used initially to help set up your network. After the initial setup, the white LED will flicker as it sends or receives INSTEON signals, making it easy to see when there is traffic traveling through your INSTEON network.

Technical Note for use in Commercial or Large Residential Building
INSTEON has only officially been tested in a 2-phase residential environment, but has been known to work in many 3-phase systems, where 3 Access Points are used (one on each phase). However, due to the potential complexity of its troubleshooting, Smarthome Technical Support is unable to support INSTEON in 3-phase environments.

Greatly improved reliability of Insteon "network".
    KEN -- bellevue, WA   5/25/2013
Plug 'em in and forget about them. They seem to work well.
    STEVEN -- edmond, OK   5/8/2013
As expected, it worked out of the box. Solved a range problem I was having with wireless motion sensors.
    W LOWELL -- longmeadow, MA   5/2/2013
Did not know this was needed with my original order. Installation was simple, except I had to try multiple outlets. Also instructions were wrong for setting up with thermostat. Required multiple conversations with Tech staff to get this to work for just one device so I could control the heat remotely. Would not recommend product or company based on this experience.
    DanielT -- mckinney, TX   4/26/2013
2 Access points cleared up all my communication problems. These should be included in any 'starter' kit that is sold. Make sure to follow the directions closely and fully understand the different LED meanings.
TANER -- san diego, CA   4/25/2013
Does its job. Used two of these to successfully bridge my power phases until I installed a SignaLinc.
CARLOS ALBERTO -- brusque, XX   4/21/2013
    PAUL -- coweta, OK   4/18/2013
I had to buy this item to make the motion sensor functional. The Hub couldn't connected directly to the motion sensor.
    JOHN -- acton, CA   3/21/2013
Does everything is it supposed to do and is a must for must any house control system. Easy to install. really improved the performance and reliability of my installation.
    STEVEN -- loudon, TN   3/18/2013
SMARTHOME HAS ALWAYS GIVEN ME EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND TECH SUPPORT FOR THE PAST 20 YEARS. STEVE WELLS
    MICHAEL -- ridgecrest, CA   3/15/2013
    Works as discribed
JOSEPH -- van nuys, CA   3/14/2013
Made so many problems go away.
SANDRA -- oak park, CA   3/9/2013
Didn't work had to return. Probably didn't know how to program the switch and outlet. Instructions not that clear.
JOE -- colorado springs, AL   3/7/2013
First off, I have become a huge fan of the insstion products I 've purchased and the service delivery of Smarthome. In this case I have to say that my purchase left my less than saticfied. I had purchased the water leak detector as an addition to my system. Whether I didn't read it right or the page was confusing, I did not realize that I needed to also buy dual band access point in order for the leak detector to work. I think I represent most of your market in that I am a handyman homeowner an not a "should have know" geek hobbiest. I remain a spporter of this product line.
    DENA -- norfolk, VA   3/1/2013
Works as advertised. Noticeable insteon signal boost
    DAVID -- moorhead, MN   2/24/2013
It's a good product; however, although it's great for home theatre, the whole home thing has never worked. The software (Indigo) is confusing and I've never been able to cross phases. The addition of these items is the latest attempt.
MARTIN -- boynton beach, FL   2/14/2013
This is the fourth Access Point that I have installed in order to get the Insteon Hub working. Other Insteon devices are working properly, but the Hub still is not. I assume that the Access devices are functioning as expected and it is the Hub that is a problem.
    DANIEL -- mckinney, TX   2/3/2013
Setup takes some trial and error. Mainly around learning the different light blinks. Once setup correctly, makes Insteon network extremely reliable. It should be on all the documentation that 2 of these should be in any new install!
LAWRENCE -- new haven, VT   1/31/2013
I had some set up problems due to Ground Fault Interrupter breakers in my house wiring. This unit fixed the problem and got things going.
    D. R. -- chesapeake, VA   1/12/2013
The devices are performing as described. Setup was easy.
