  • Battery-powered with optional power supply connection
  • Add the remote temperature sensor to monitor fish tanks, pools, spa, etc.

Essential Info

Place a thermostat anywhere you want with the INSTEON Wireless Thermostat linked to your INSTEON Thermostat. Put it in the master bedroom, in the basement, in the guest room--anywhere you want room-specific, customized temperature control. You can add up to two INSTEON Wireless Thermostats to your INSTEON Thermostat.

Additionally, you can use INSTEON Wireless Thermostat as a standalone controller, activating scenes to turn on heaters and fans based on the room's temperature and/or humidity status.

The INSTEON Wireless Thermostat also works like a standard thermostat with local control, four automatic modes and 1-day programmable settings, so there's no hassles with training your family on how to use it.

In addition to remote control, program the thermostat as an INSTEON controller to activate other appliances in your home based on temperature, humidity or mode changes. Here are just a few of the limitless scenarios:
  • When the A/C kicks in, turn on your ceiling fans to help cool down your home faster and more efficiently
  • Add INSTEON-compatible software such as HouseLinc and receive text messages if the temperature or humidity drops above or below your defined safe levels
  • If the humidity level climbs too high, turn on a dehumidifier with an ApplianceLinc*
  • Program a daily "Return" mode that turns on your A/C and switches on your outside lights so you come home to a relaxing, welcoming house

  • *You must have an INSTEON dual-band device or Access Point installed for INSTEON Wireless Thermostat to communicate with single-band INSTEON devices.

Increase INSTEON Wireless Thermostat's utility by attaching a Waterproof Temperature Sensor. This weather-resistant external sensor wires into INSTEON Wireless Thermostat and allows you to monitor the temperature of environments such as pools, spas, aquariums and ponds.

    What's Included

  • INSTEON Wireless Thermostat
  • Tabletop stand
  • Two (2) AA batteries
  • Quick Start Guide
  • More Info

You can link up to two INSTEON Wireless Thermostats to INSTEON Thermostat, allowing you to control the HVAC system from anywhere in the house. When linked to an INSTEON Thermostat, INSTEON Wireless Thermostat can serve as the master thermostat over the HVAC system; just press and hold the Master button, wait for the beep and release. When "Master" appears below the large temperature display, Wireless Thermostat is now the primary thermostat.

Temperatures from the linked INSTEON Thermostat, Wireless Thermostat and/or Waterproof Temperature Sensor are displayed in smaller digits centered above the main temperature display in positions 2 and 3, with the master thermostat featuring "Master" below its temperature reading. The display information updates every time the temperature sensed changes by 2°.

INSTEON Wireless Thermostat features a bright blue LED backlight for easy programming. By default, the backlight turns on when a button is pressed and turns off 10 seconds after button is released-this helps to conserve Wireless Thermostat's battery life. You can change this setting with the Program button to 60 seconds, always on or always off.

If the INSTEON device you intend to control from the INSTEON Wireless Thermostat does not receive RF signals (i.e., it's powerline only), you will need at least one dual-band INSTEON device to convert the RF signals to powerline signals.

I'm a software engineer and and have been a gadget builder for close to 40 years now, the manual on this things is just about worthless.
David Pfeffer -- annandale, NJ   6/11/2014
I've had the Insteon Thermostat and Insteon Wireless Thermostat for about a year now. I was initially scared by other reviews that mentioned various connectivity problems, but ignored the naysayers assuming they just were confused about how to set up the product. A bit of background on me, too: I'm a software engineer and I've literally been writing software against Insteon in C# since 2004, so I understand what I'm doing with Insteon. I have a severe neck injury as a result of a car accident, and if my bedroom isn't at just the right temperature while I sleep, my neck siezes up and can hurt for several days. We got the Insteon thermostat pair because the wireless one can act as a remote thermometer and control for the main thermostat, which is hardwired in the hall. The bedroom gets significantly colder than the hallway, so measuring the temperature from my nightstand a foot or two from my neck is a must. The thermostat CONSTANTLY loses master configuration at random intervals, with no warning, on fresh batteries. When the wired thermostat becomes the master again, the HVAC system seeks to bring the temperature to my night-time set point, 68 degrees, in the hallway. This means my bedroom is often 61 degrees by the time I wake up and I'm in pain, if I don't happen to catch it when I go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. I've used other Insteon products and love them -- my house is wired with about $5,000 worth of Insteon switches, controllers, sensors, etc. However, Smarthome has epicly failed with the thermostat. Look elsewhere for a thermostat.
    JOHN -- sudbury, MA   4/19/2014
The only reason I gave this 2 stars is it does technically act as a thermostat. If you want to know remotely what the temperature is at any given time, you're out of luck, it doesn't do that. Also, for those of you that are excited about the external temperature probe please note that the data isn't transmitted back to the hub or ISY. Basically the only value is if you happen to be looking at the screen. This seems pointless to me as the purpose of this is to be an automation tool. I did have some communications issues with the unit as well. Ultimately I could never get it to work reliably and had to return it.
CRAIG -- east northport, NY   12/30/2013
Very nice unit. I'm using it as a remote sensor for the 2441TH unit. Not only does it function as a remote sensor - but the unit is totally in synch with the main unit. I can program from either one and the other one gets the update immediately! Nice!!!
JASON -- jersey city, NJ   12/15/2013
Fantastic product. I have it controlling heat and humidity to our nursery room with the use of plug in on/off modules connected to independent devices.
    Abdullah S. Al-Salloum -- kuwait city, Kuwait   7/6/2013
This is an update to my previous review. Tried to have my thermostats, wireless and wired to the factory reset state, then connected them to each other. Since the wired thermostat has default pre-programmed modes for wake, leave, return and sleep, which cannot be disabled, I used to set the wireless thermostat as MASTER and confirmed that HOLD was set ON. Since then, both wired and wireless thermostat are stable, and do not change their current mode as they used to do. I believe preprogramming should have an ON/OFF toggle for people who do not run on a schedule, and the default must be OFF. In addition, once a wireless thermostat is connected and set as MASTER it should have the ability to access programming button.
    Abdullah Al-Salloum -- kuwait city, Kuwait   7/3/2013
I located this thermostat 10 meters away from the main thermostat, and there are more than 5 dual band switches in between. Once I set this thermostat as master it changes its settings after a short while, say 3 hours. The fan settings goes to FAN ONLY instead of AUTO, or the COOL TO sets to a higher or a lower temperature degree. The other issue comes when using the HUB, I cannot access the wireless thermostat from my iOS App, the app seems to see the main wired thermostat and control it only, no matter which of them is in MASTER mode. I have gone through the manual carefully, and have reset both thermostats, wired and wireless, to factory reset more than one time just to ensure they work better, but no luck! The wireless thermostat to me now is only a device to measure the temperature and humidity, and to tell what is the main thermostat COOL TO temperature, NO STABLE CONTROLING.
KEVIN -- desert hot springs, CA   6/15/2013
Wonderful!!! Linked perfectly with the master, and now our bedroom can be controlled perfectly! Best idea anyone's ever thought up!
    ROBERT -- tampa, FL   6/8/2013
I tried 2 units. Both failed the same way. After a few hours they loose the mastermode function. I use external psu and distance between wireless and wired is 10 feet.
    NEIL -- laurel, MD   5/23/2013
Once you get it calibrated, it's worked great for me
    ROBERT -- tampa, FL   5/23/2013
I tried two Insteon Wireless Thermostats. Both had the same failure: They do not stay in master mode. The distance between wireless Thermostat and wired Thermostat is 10 feet. This product is not ready to be sold!
    ISAAC -- seattle, WA   5/23/2013
Unable to get the unit to update the temperature to SmartLinc (2412N), however sometimes can get the unit to update via HouseLinc Software.
    Robert -- Tampa   5/23/2013
I Tried two wireless thermostats. Unfortunately both failed the same way. The wireless thermostat was powered by external PSU. The distance between wireless and wired thermostat is 10 feet. After a short period between 2 and 4 hours the wireless thermostat stops being in MASTER MODE. I tried everything like default resetting the wired and wireless thermostat. This product is not doing it is supposed to do and should not be sold!!!!!
    RAUL -- sparks, NV   4/25/2013
    Great product
sean -- los angeles, california   2/5/2013
This works together with the insteon wired thermostat that you attach to the hvac wires on your wall. my usage case is to put the wireless thermostat upstairs so it will turn the heater/ac on or off based on the temperature in the baby room. to do this, you are supposed to set the wireless thermostat to MASTER mode so that is is in charge. for the most part, this works as advertised. however, every few days or so, the MASTER mode will disappear from the wireless thermostat and go back to the wired thermostat. this is very problematic because you get cases where the heater will keep running for so long the baby room is sweltering, but it didn't stop because it reverted MASTER status back to the wired unit downstairs, which is a lot cooler and hasn't reached the right temperature yet. I called/emailed tech support regarding this issue but the only suggestion they had was to buy yet another insteon product, an access point, to boost the range. I tried it but it didn't work. now I am waiting to see what else they can suggest. based on this, I would not recommend the product, since it does not seem very stable and there is no good fix for it.
    JAMES -- auburn, CA   1/30/2013
I had to return the units I originally received because they didn't work. I'm still waiting for their replacements.
Felix Owl -- United States   1/18/2013
Not recommended for use with the ISY-99.
    JASON -- burnsville, MN   1/3/2013
I highly recommend using this with the AC adapter. Understandably due to power consumption concerns when operating on battery, when it goes to sleep I could not seem to figure out how to make changes remotely. I'll be honest I still have not figured out how to use this as a simeultaneous secondary thermostat. Here is an example: If it gets to cold where this thermostat is located, turn on the heat, OR if it gets to cold where the primary is located turn on the heat. I can only seem to figure out how to have one or the other act as the "active" thermostat, if you will.
    Don -- redmond, WA   12/10/2012
I bought 3 of these to use as remotes for my Venstar thermostat. Unfortunately the over-agressive 'sleep' on these makes them virtually impossible to keep in sync. By the time your software notices the Wireless Thermostat is awake it sent a local temperature update, for example it has barely enough time to send a single update to the Wireless Thermostat so you can keep the heat/cool/fan/mode set points in sync - but those are 4 separate updates, so it usually takes quite awhile before they really do get sync'ed.
    yosappy -- tustin, CA   11/3/2012
So far, so bad........I have installed 5 of these wireless TStats and 5 of the Wired ones that these 5 communicate with for my newly zoned HVAC System. I now have 8 Total Zones; 5 Wireless & 3 Wired. The 3 Wired Zones work perfect; however, the 5 Wireless ones keep having problems. The Wireless TStats keep changing themselves out of MASTER mode, change their own Temp. settings and even shut themselves OFF. THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THESE DEVICES! THEY WORK LIKE CRAP! They are obviously a defective design. Trust me, DO NOT BUY THESE UNTIL A FIX IS FOUND. I will be calling Customer Service on Monday to discuss this with SmartHome.

Smarthome response: You can have up to 2 wireless thermostats linked to a wired thermostat. If you attempt to link more than this you will experience some of what you describe. For help on this issue please call 866-243-8022.
