Essential Info

Place a thermostat anywhere you want with the INSTEON Wireless Thermostat linked to your INSTEON Thermostat. Put it in the master bedroom, in the basement, in the guest room--anywhere you want room-specific, customized temperature control. You can add up to two INSTEON Wireless Thermostats to your INSTEON Thermostat.

Additionally, you can use INSTEON Wireless Thermostat as a standalone controller, activating scenes to turn on heaters and fans based on the room's temperature and/or humidity status.

The INSTEON Wireless Thermostat also works like a standard thermostat with local control, four automatic modes and 1-day programmable settings, so there's no hassles with training your family on how to use it.

In addition to remote control, program the thermostat as an INSTEON controller to activate other appliances in your home based on temperature, humidity or mode changes. Here are just a few of the limitless scenarios:
  • When the A/C kicks in, turn on your ceiling fans to help cool down your home faster and more efficiently
  • Add INSTEON-compatible software such as HouseLinc and receive text messages if the temperature or humidity drops above or below your defined safe levels
  • If the humidity level climbs too high, turn on a dehumidifier with an ApplianceLinc*
  • Program a daily "Return" mode that turns on your A/C and switches on your outside lights so you come home to a relaxing, welcoming house


    • *You must have an INSTEON dual-band device or Access Point installed for INSTEON Wireless Thermostat to communicate with single-band INSTEON devices.

    Increase INSTEON Wireless Thermostat's utility by attaching a Waterproof Temperature Sensor. This weather-resistant external sensor wires into INSTEON Wireless Thermostat and allows you to monitor the temperature of environments such as pools, spas, aquariums and ponds.

    You can link up to two INSTEON Wireless Thermostats to INSTEON Thermostat, allowing you to control the HVAC system from anywhere in the house. When linked to an INSTEON Thermostat, INSTEON Wireless Thermostat can serve as the master thermostat over the HVAC system; just press and hold the Master button, wait for the beep and release. When "Master" appears below the large temperature display, Wireless Thermostat is now the primary thermostat.

    Temperatures from the linked INSTEON Thermostat, Wireless Thermostat and/or Waterproof Temperature Sensor are displayed in smaller digits centered above the main temperature display in positions 2 and 3, with the master thermostat featuring "Master" below its temperature reading. The display information updates every time the temperature sensed changes by 2°.

    INSTEON Wireless Thermostat features a bright blue LED backlight for easy programming. By default, the backlight turns on when a button is pressed and turns off 10 seconds after button is released-this helps to conserve Wireless Thermostat's battery life. You can change this setting with the Program button to 60 seconds, always on or always off.

    If the INSTEON device you intend to control from the INSTEON Wireless Thermostat does not receive RF signals (i.e., it's powerline only), you will need at least one dual-band INSTEON device to convert the RF signals to powerline signals.

    I highly recommend using this with the AC adapter. Understandably due to power consumption concerns when operating on battery, when it goes to sleep I could not seem to figure out how to make changes remotely. I'll be honest I still have not figured out how to use this as a simeultaneous secondary thermostat. Here is an example: If it gets to cold where this thermostat is located, turn on the heat, OR if it gets to cold where the primary is located turn on the heat. I can only seem to figure out how to have one or the other act as the "active" thermostat, if you will.

    Great Idea, I could not wait to get my hands on it. But at the moment it promisses more than it delivers. It's bigest drawback is the fact that it goes to sleep (as a responder) even when power is attached.

    The device usefulness is hampered by the fact that it only responds to commands when it is awake. That's understandable in order to save battery life but it does make programming inefficient.

    This works together with the insteon wired thermostat that you attach to the hvac wires on your wall. my usage case is to put the wireless thermostat upstairs so it will turn the heater/ac on or off based on the temperature in the baby room. to do this, you are supposed to set the wireless thermostat to MASTER mode so that is is in charge. for the most part, this works as advertised. however, every few days or so, the MASTER mode will disappear from the wireless thermostat and go back to the wired thermostat. this is very problematic because you get cases where the heater will keep running for so long the baby room is sweltering, but it didn't stop because it reverted MASTER status back to the wired unit downstairs, which is a lot cooler and hasn't reached the right temperature yet. I called/emailed tech support regarding this issue but the only suggestion they had was to buy yet another insteon product, an access point, to boost the range. I tried it but it didn't work. now I am waiting to see what else they can suggest. based on this, I would not recommend the product, since it does not seem very stable and there is no good fix for it.

    I bought 3 of these to use as remotes for my Venstar thermostat. Unfortunately the over-agressive 'sleep' on these makes them virtually impossible to keep in sync. By the time your software notices the Wireless Thermostat is awake it sent a local temperature update, for example it has barely enough time to send a single update to the Wireless Thermostat so you can keep the heat/cool/fan/mode set points in sync - but those are 4 separate updates, so it usually takes quite awhile before they really do get sync'ed.

    So far, so bad........I have installed 5 of these wireless TStats and 5 of the Wired ones that these 5 communicate with for my newly zoned HVAC System. I now have 8 Total Zones; 5 Wireless & 3 Wired. The 3 Wired Zones work perfect; however, the 5 Wireless ones keep having problems. The Wireless TStats keep changing themselves out of MASTER mode, change their own Temp. settings and even shut themselves OFF. THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THESE DEVICES! THEY WORK LIKE CRAP! They are obviously a defective design. Trust me, DO NOT BUY THESE UNTIL A FIX IS FOUND. I will be calling Customer Service on Monday to discuss this with SmartHome.

    Smarthome response: You can have up to 2 wireless thermostats linked to a wired thermostat. If you attempt to link more than this you will experience some of what you describe. For help on this issue please call 866-243-8022.

    Of all the neat Insteon items we have bought and installed, this item is the most disappointing. I bought it with an external sensor to remotely monitor spa temperature; however, the external temp cannot be linked to ISY-99/iPhone app. Plus, the external temp on the table top display is so small it is hardly readable. This item does not live up to the Insteon brand name.
