HouseLinc gives you the power to setup, automate and manage your entire INSTEON network, create scenes and timed events for your INSTEON-compatible or X10-compatible lights and appliances all from an easy-to-use PC interface.

  • Setup and manage virtually all of a device's properties from one screen
  • Up to 1,000 scenes can be stored in the PLM - which can be used in timer and INSTEON triggered events
  • Background scene/link management: All the database management/communications required to create/edit/delete scenes and devices are done in the background saving you time
  • Remote control (live) from the PC
  • For update/upgrade information see HouseLinc Release Notes

Requirements:
  • HouseLinc requires the included HouseLinc-enabled Modem and is not compatible with other INSTEON PowerLinc interfaces
  • HouseLinc Enabled PowerLinc Modem, included
  • Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 (32-bit or 64-bit)

Devices
Adding Devices to HouseLinc
There are 3 ways to add devices to your home's setup:
  1. Manually enter their INSTEON IDs
  2. Press & hold each devices' set button until it beeps
  3. Automatic device discovery

Simply choose option 1 or 2, then HouseLinc will automatically "crawl" your home to find all your other devices that share scene/link memberships.

Managing Device Properties
With HouseLinc, you'll have the ability to customize each device on your network. Set ramp rates, preset on levels, and more for your scenes. After you've added your devices you can define one or more of the following properties.
  • Room Name
  • Device Name
  • LED Brightness (New)
  • Local On Level (New)
  • Local Ramp Rate (New)
  • LED Brightness (New)
  • Programming Lock
  • Physical Location
  • Connected to Load (y/n)
  • Watts of load
  • Disable (keeps HouseLinc from managing a device)
  • Notes

Direct Control
From within the Properties tab you can easily
  1. turn them on, off or adjust to other applicable settings/levels
  2. get their current status

Scenes
After you've added your INSTEON-compatible devices into HouseLinc, you can easily create scenes, which are then automatically and completely managed by HouseLinc "behind the scenes". You simply select the desired states for scene members and then choose which members are controllers only (e.g. a motion sensor which is not capable of being a responder), which members are responders only (e.g. you might want your dining table light to be a member of dinnertime, but not to launch dinnertime when you manually turn it on at the switch) and which members are both (e.g. both switches in a 3-way circuit are both controllers and responders).

All link creation and management is done for you by HouseLinc. Furthermore, unlike many of the competitors, HouseLinc will do all the scene (links) and device (properties) management in the background, so you can continue setting up your network.

Create whole-house lighting scenes in a fraction of the time it would take to do manually.

As you expand your INSTEON installation, new devices can easily be added to your pre-existing scenes and events.

The scenes list reports to you the total number of members of each scene as well as the last time the scene was triggered and whether the scene was sent an On command or an Off command.

Events (Timer and INSTEON Triggered)
Events are a series of actions triggered by either a timer or an INSTEON (or X10) signal.

Timer Events
You can easily set up events to run at a specific time of day (e.g. 3:00 PM), sunrise or sunset. Time of day events can be randomized (+/- 15 minutes) to give your home a lived-in look. Sunrise and sunset events can be run +/- 23 hours for powerful, energy saving events. Sunrise and sunset times are based on a built-in celestial clock based on your location and time zone (based on either your nearest major city or manually entered latitude and longitude).

Triggered Events
You can also trigger events by sending an On, an Off, a double-tap On or a double-tap OFF (plus other other X10 commands).

Conditionals
It is easy to set up events such that they only run on specified days of the week or only when specified devices are on (or off, or in other specified states - e.g. temperature < 70 degrees).

Actions
Events can trigger Scenes, turn devices on or off, set thermostats to specified levels or send virtually any other INSTEON/X10 commands. You control the sequence with which these actions are carried out. You can also add timed delays.

Example Events
Water Lawn:
Time: 7:00AM
Conditional: Monday, Wednesday or Friday
Actions:
Turn Zone1 ON
Wait 5 minutes
Turn Zone1 OFF
Turn Zone2 ON
Wait 7 minutes
Turn Zone2 OFF

Turn Off Bath Fan Automatically
INSTEON Trigger: Bath Fan Turned On
Conditionals: None
Actions:
Wait 30 minutes
Turn Bath Fan off

Activity Log (new)
This new tab displays, in chronological order, all the scenes that have been triggered in your home. Each entry contains a time-stamp as well as all the other identifying information to make maintenance and trouble-shooting of your home a breeze. (note: the ID column has been partially obscured in the example below)

The software works as described in the manual. As stated in the description, the PC must be permanently on in order to use the timer functions of the software.
    CHRIS -- galesburg, MI   4/19/2012
Surprised at how well it works. Application does not run as a service so it must be logged in to run "External" alerts. Make a Media Center Addon and also have it run as a windows service and you'll have the full market cornered.
RONALD -- south san francisco, CA   4/14/2012
Software very good. Very easy to link switches and program. Scenes could have a better interface. Little bit of a learning curve.
    JONATHAN -- tolleson, AZ   4/7/2012
Nice software... the install did had a hiccup when connecting the first time to the HouseLinc PLM, but a software update fixed that. The interface itself is a little bit disorganized. For example, the Events and Activity tabs that setup all devices are both over on the right side next to Properties and Links tabs... even though those two are specifically for the selected device on the left side.
    ROBERT -- sanford, FL   4/5/2012
Easy to program except for using remote access which if you are not a programer you will never figure out.
    ERICH -- bayville, NY   4/5/2012
Good software, very easy to use. The USB interface was bad (would not comunicate with PC. I talked to Tech Support and he shiped a new unit. everything work fine with new part.
DAVID JOSE -- windermere, FL   3/31/2012
Great for Configuring many insteon devices. Wish there was a Linux version and web interface that's the reason for 4 stars.
WILLIAM -- chino hills, CA   3/22/2012
I replaced my original 2414U controller because the old free timer software would not run on Windows Server 2008R2. I tried a free trial of Powerhome software but it uses the Smarthome sdm3.exe driver which does not run on Win2008 server. Smarthome recommended this bundle which included the 2413U controller/modem and the Filterlinc. I installed without the Filterlinc (the 2414 didn't need it in my environment), defined my Insteon devices and set up the timers. Everything worked great except intermittently over the next few days some lights didn't turn on and sometimes lights would not turn off. I then installed the Filterlinc and everything works perfectly.
    ERICH -- bayville, NY   3/16/2012
    good software easy to use
DONALD -- dripping springs, TX   3/15/2012
I'm very pleased with this system. Fortunately one of my computers runs 24/7 so this software works just fine for my purposes. I'm pleased with how well it interfaces with all the X-10 that I've had for years. In a previous home I had the Ocelot and liked that it was standalone once programmed and it was somewhat more versatile (if you had programming experience) but this does a very acceptable job and seems quite reliable (after installing a whole bunch of Filterlinks on every AC adapter in the house and a couple of BoosterLinks!)
JACK -- daly city, CA   3/13/2012
Installation and set-up were bumpy,to say the least. When software failed to recognize PLM at set-up, tech support's diagnosis was "defective PLM microprocessor" and arranged for replacement. The replacement had same issue. New diagnosis - the software (which I had just downloaded from the Smarthome URL specified in the installation guide) was out of date, and I should instead install newer software from a different download site. In the course of installing the new revision, there were problems with drivers. It's now been a month, and I've since forgotten what specifically was wrong and how it was resolved - but it was yet another hurdle. When I finally succeeded in getting the program to run, I discovered I could not see an essential portion of the event set-up window, as this window has no scroll up/down bar (even though other screens in the program do). Because of this, I cannot configure events using my netbook's built-in screen (1024x600 max res). I must therefore connect an external monitor with greater vertical resolution, simply because Houselinc has no scroll bar for the event set-up screen. It is inexcusable that this is so, and even more so in that minimum screen resolution is not even mentioned anywhere in specs. That said, the program seems to function OK.
    RUSS D. -- redondo beach, CA   3/12/2012
The first device I received failed after a days operation. Smarthome replaced it and the new one works great
    DAVID -- homewood, AL   3/4/2012
I am glad I bought the software, but I still cannot have one button turn off 4 lights that are turned on individually by 4 other buttons. When trying to program a button, and I try to drag an item from the device panel to the responders panel, it won't work. When I highlight the item to drag, it opens a different panel on the right side so I cannot drag it to the button panel. Also, when I go to the devices at the top the dropdown does not have the option: "select on a single click" that the Houselince 2 video shows. It should be more intuitive and at least have the same submenu options as shown in the tutorial video
    AL -- webster, MA   2/17/2012
This a great package for configuring and programming Insteon or X-10 networks. It needs only a web interface to round it out.
    PHIL -- denver, CO   2/16/2012
INSTEON is the best! X10 was fun, but INSTEON always works!
    DEVIN -- oakley, CA   2/15/2012
    Connectivity issues, driver support limited.
    PHILIP -- stacy, MN   2/8/2012
Not ready for prime time, but shows promise. Updates appear to be released frquently (about every 2 months judging by the version dates).
    RICHARD -- oxford, CT   2/5/2012
Works great now - had to return the first controller but the new one seems to be perfect!
    JONATHAN -- springville, UT   2/4/2012
It mostly does what it says it can. However some of the features of the software are only supported by newer versions of the switches and controllers. It would be very nice if the software was able to cleary identify which features won't work on the versions of switches/controllers that it knows about. Other than this I'm well pleased with the software. It has made my 30+ device configuration much easier to deal with without walking all over the house holding buttons for 10 seconds. And unlinking is just as easy as linking devices.
    GLENN -- alpharetta, GA   1/20/2012
Not ready for primetime. Hard to install. Needs to run all the time. Clunky user interface. Bad integration with X10 devices.
