Essential Info

IRLinc - INSTEON IR Transmitter allows you to turn any KeypadLinc or Mini Remote into an IR remote that will integrate INSTEON controlled lights and devices with your whole-home music system, home theater, or even your IR-controllable blinds or drapes. Using an INSTEON controller such as KeypadLinc, you can set up buttons for play, stop, volume up, volume down, previous track, next track, change source and power to control your whole-home music system. Or, while hosting a dinner party, set your dinner lighting scene and turn on music from your dining-room using Mini Remote, all without excusing yourself from the table. By running one of IRLinc's emitters to an IR-controllable automated drape controller you can use Mini Remote to close the drapes and remove the glare while watching a movie, open and close a home theater curtain or schedule your bedroom blinds to open in the morning. Using your INSTEON network to control IR equipment around the house opens up a new world of home control possibilities.

IR Macro Support
IRLinc Transmitter supports IR macros, allowing several IR commands to be programmed to a single INSTEON controller button. Have your TV and tuner turn on, select the cable box as your source and turn on your lights from the touch of a button. Need a delay between turning on the TV and selecting the cable box as a source? Grab a remote from another room or unused remote and program a "dummy" IR code between the "TV Power" and TV source selection commands. IR macros are also great for programming several-digit television channels to an INSTEON controller button.

Independent On/Off Buttons
IRLinc Transmitter features the ability to program independent IR commands or macros to each the On and the Off on any INSTEON controller. Make your Mini Remote even more intuitive by programming the "Volume Up" IR command to the 1st On button and "Volume Down" IR command to the 1st Off button. Also, take advantage of macros by programming your two favorite television channels to the 2nd On/Off button pair. For example, you can program your Mini Remote's 2nd On button to change to the Discovery channel, while the 2nd Off button changes the channel to ESPN.

Note: The IRLinc is currently unsupported in HouseLinc software.

I am very disappointed on the fact that you can not use this with the app that comes. this would be the best asset because it would let me control all kind or ir devices...... lots of wasted potential.

Terrible device. Cant link with anything. Not like the rest of insteon devices. This is really a waste of money an time. I am really frustrated with piece of c...

I bought one of these in hopes to control my LG mini-split heat pump, and I am completely happy. It learned the codes for any temperature you choose, you can schedule automatic set-back for when you are at work, and have a warm/cool house when you return. There is a bit of a trick to Programming it, on the My ISY 99i; click on the Link Management tab Add button to IR Linc Transmitter. You follow the instructions shown to add a button press. It shows up as a device in Main, then add it to a scene. In the Programs tab, you can schedule the scene 'on'. I ordered 4 more units for the rest of the LG mini-Split heat pump units. The IR Blaster by Global Cache work well at longer distances then the included stick on cubes

This review is for the second of these I have purchased. The device works well for controlling my receiver. I had to use manual programming because I use the hub and wanted to send a macro. It's linked to a KPL and works reliably with different sequences for on and off. The on macro string is 10 codes. I tried using it with Houselinc, but it does not appear to be supported. The only negatives for it are the difficulty in setting it up and lack of or limited support with the hub.
Unhappy customer -- South Carolina   10/20/2013
This device is unreliable. It did learn some codes for my Denon 2310ci & Sony receivers, but not all including volume up/down. My Sony reciever now comes on and off on its own accord - guess this is the x10 unreliability factor. It did not learn many Xbox IR codes either. This unit is a waste of money.
    KELLY -- katy, TX   10/5/2013
Works very well with my Onkyo and RCA receivers. Can program them to a KPL with different IR codes for on and off. Can do macros up to at least 12 codes. Difficult to program and not supported by Houselinc or the Hub as of the date of this review.
    JAMES -- mesa, AZ   7/28/2013
I was able to control the IR devices I needed to. I wish you could just send arbitrator IR data to it, instead, you must have a remote that can teach it each command.
    ERNIE -- mamaroneck, NY   7/5/2013
Once I figured out to use two things to get it to work with with my ISY-994 it works like a charm. You don't add it as a device but under the link menu add buttons. The other thing is that you can't use the buttons directly but have to add them to a scene then use the scene's On action to trigger them.
    NICOLAS -- orlando, FL   2/8/2013
do not have software for use
Brian -- santa clarita, CA   1/11/2013
The IRLinc Transmitter product page contains false information: You can even pull out your smartphone or tablet and have hand-held touch screen control of your INSTEON and A/V equipment, ensuring that everything is turned off, all while you are at work or on vacation; requires INSTEON Hub After verifying with support, it can only be programed to issue a single command. Mute, Power on, Power off, Volume up, Volume down, etc. -- you can only do one of these. It is a limitation of the Hub itself. There is no user-friendly mobile/web interface. It is not easy to set this device up and HouseLinc 2 does not seem to support set-up.
    Matt K -- santa clara, CA   11/27/2012
It worked great once you toss the include semi-IR led emitters and replace with true IR leds. I could not get the device to work with my LED RGB lighting. I could clearly see it learn something and was playing it back as the Talk Back LED also the IR led??? would light up. I looked closer at these and noticed there is only 1 LED in the emitter, not a separate IR and red led. This one LED must be in a spectrum that is somewhat IR somewhat red. I grabbed a extra logitech IR LED emitter from my harmony and whala, it just worked! Others might try this when running into compatibility issues? Smarthome should consider supplying a real IR emitter. Otherwise worked great. Only downside is the need for each command to be part of a scene. To have to create a scene for each command is a little tedious! But it did what I needed and I can control my RGB LED lights from my switches!
HARVEY -- niagara falls, ON   6/18/2012
This unit programmed quickly and responded to the commands correctly. I'm using it with a ISY994, and have yet to see it do a thing. I've programmed, reprogrammed, reset, & done anything I could think of, but no auto response. I expected the ISY unit to function as a timer for me, but no such luck. Also, no decent documentation to follow up with, so I'm still working on it. I give the unit good points for programming, but not sure if it's the ISY or this as to why it doesn't respond to ISY commands. hg
CHRISTOPHER -- saint paul, MN   5/11/2012
It's really difficult to setup and HouseLinc doest support it yet.
ADRIAN -- ciudad victoria, XX   3/21/2012
It would be nice to let houselinc ease the programming of the Irlinc
    Pierre -- Montreal   2/13/2012
I bought a brand new 2411Tlatest version a few weeks ago to control my Mitsubishi mini-split AC via my ISY-99ir. I found out that most air conditioning units use command structures that are quite long, preventing many IR learners on the market including the 2411T from properly capturing their codes. If you want to control a mini-split air conditioner, DO NOT BUY the 2411T. Chances are that the 2411T will not learn your AC commands. I don't know about other AC manufacturers but it will definitely not work with Mitsubishi. Go with the WF2IR from Global Cache. More expensive but works flawlessly.
    Steve -- México   1/13/2012
They have said since 3 years that there would be software to control this interface. By now, still there is no way to control it via software
    NATHAN -- denver, CO   8/26/2011
A bit challenging to program commands for certain devices but found my own work-around. Once programmed, working great.
    David -- Austin   7/2/2011
It doesn't work with DENON receivers as of 7/2011, rev. 1.45n. Denon is one of the most popular audiophile brands and this compatibility problem has been known for at least as long as this device has been available 2+ years. Other than that, it takes a long time to program each button with the ISY-99i, but once it's set up it seems to work ok with devices that it is compatible with.
    TODD -- wapakoneta, OH   6/20/2011
Took a while to learn how to program, but once that was figured out it worked flawlessly.
    Chris -- Minnesota   1/14/2011
Very painstaking process to add buttons if you intend to use with ISY-99i. Essentially you need to go through the process of adding each button through the ISY-99 1 at a time, which takes about a minute a piece. Then, you need to add each button to a scene in order to activate as the nodes themselves cannot be issued commands without being in a scene.
