Overview

Essential Info

IRLinc - INSTEON IR Transmitter allows you to turn any KeypadLinc, RemoteLinc, ControLinc or SmartLinc into a remote that will integrate INSTEON controlled lights and devices with your whole-home music system, home theater, or even your IR-controllable blinds or drapes. Using an INSTEON controller such as KeypadLinc, you can set up buttons for play, stop, volume up, volume down, previous track, next track, change source and power to control your whole-home music system. Or, while hosting a dinner party, set your dinner lighting scene and turn on music from your dining-room using RemoteLinc, all without excusing yourself from the table. By running one of IRLinc's emitters to an IR-controllable automated drape controller you can use ControLinc to close the drapes and remove the glare while watching a movie, open and close a home theater curtain or schedule your bedroom blinds to open in the morning. You can even pull out your iPhone or iPod Touch and have hand-held touch screen control of your INSTEON and A/V equipment, ensuring that everything is turned off, all while you are at work or on vacation; requires SmartLinc, sold separately. Using your INSTEON network to control IR equipment around the house opens up a new world of home control possibilities.

IR Macro Support
IRLinc Transmitter supports IR macros, allowing several IR commands to be programmed to a single INSTEON controller button. Have your TV and tuner turn on, select the cable box as your source and turn on your lights from the touch of a button. Need a delay between turning on the TV and selecting the cable box as a source? Grab a remote from another room or unused remote and program a "dummy" IR code between the "TV Power" and TV source selection commands. IR macros are also great for programming several-digit television channels to an INSTEON controller button.

Independent On/Off Buttons
IRLinc Transmitter features the ability to program independent IR commands or macros to each the On and the Off on any INSTEON controller. Make your RemoteLinc even more intuitive by programming the "Volume Up" IR command to the 1st On button and "Volume Down" IR command to the 1st Off button. Also, take advantage of macros by programming your two favorite television channels to the 2nd On/Off button pair. For example, you can program your RemoteLinc's 2nd On button to change to the Discovery channel, while the 2nd Off button changes the channel to ESPN.

Note: Due to the advanced nature of this product, HouseLinc 2 does not yet support IRLinc Transmitter; however, HouseLinc 2 support is planned to be released in future updates. Once support for IRLinc Transmitter is added to HouseLinc 2, all previously-programmed links and IR commands/macros will not need to be reconfigured.

A bit challenging to program commands for certain devices but found my own work-around. Once programmed, working great.
    TODD -- wapakoneta, OH   6/20/2011
Took a while to learn how to program, but once that was figured out it worked flawlessly.
    JULIAN -- brighton, MA   12/1/2010
Works great. Turns my AV setup on/off and more!
    MICHAEL -- richmond, VA   10/1/2010
Worked right out of the box with my GE wall-mounted HVAC unit. Tied into my existing infrastructure, it works well for remotely controlling the temperature when I'm away from home.
DANIEL -- chula vista, CA   6/3/2010
    DOESNT WORK WITH RF
    JEANNE -- aurora, IL   4/27/2010
I found the device to be very limited as to what manufactures IR codes it can reproduce. The device was unable to control my Denon receiver and had issues with x-10 linking as well rendering it useless to me. I will know next time to do more research on know issues. The Smarthome user group on Smarthomes own page had know issues that for some reason the phone techs were unaware of. I feel that the tech staff should have asked what brand and devices I was using and checked compatibility issues the first time I called. They instead sent me a new device that just wasted more of my time. Lesson learned.
    JOSEPH -- joliet, IL   3/5/2010
I love it. But unfortunately it doesn't work with my comcast remote. Wish it could be updated
    RICHARD -- bowmanville, ON   10/9/2009
Unit does what it says. it can learn many IR codes and I'm using it in conjuction with Insteon Central controller to control my AV system via timers. With only a dual IR emmitter, set its a bit limiting but I was able to use two sets with a mono spliter. I found the recommended IR blaster to be very directional and a bit too picky to use in my set up.
    ALAN -- hauppauge, NY   5/21/2009
Did not support Mitsubishi DLP TV nor Samsung LED TV.
    SCOTT -- fenton, MI   4/19/2009
For the most part, this device does well with converting x10 signals into IR, However for some reason I could not get volume to work. Also, the instructions aren't as complete as they should be - the macros are are not discussed at all. However, this is the only device I know that will do the job.
ERIK -- ben lomond, CA   3/15/2009
Works as claimed enabling turning on all devices in sequence or controlling just one device. It would be very useful if software supported programming it to save time.
    David -- Austin   7/2/2011
It doesn't work with DENON receivers as of 7/2011, rev. 1.45n. Denon is one of the most popular audiophile brands and this compatibility problem has been known for at least as long as this device has been available 2+ years. Other than that, it takes a long time to program each button with the ISY-99i, but once it's set up it seems to work ok with devices that it is compatible with.
    Chris -- Minnesota   1/14/2011
Very painstaking process to add buttons if you intend to use with ISY-99i. Essentially you need to go through the process of adding each button through the ISY-99 1 at a time, which takes about a minute a piece. Then, you need to add each button to a scene in order to activate as the nodes themselves cannot be issued commands without being in a scene.
    PaulyHollywood -- Los Angeles   1/30/2010
The Mitsubishi DLP TVs come with a set of four 4 IR blasters to one eighth inch connector which works way better than theIRLinc included dual stick-on Emitters--the are WEAK. Also with the Mitsubishi it's important to engage the remote button you're trying to learn very briefly. If you hold it down too long you'll end up triggering both power on and power off in the same remote command. Same with any command on the Mitsubishi remote. It will work though--just learn the command with a quick press. Buttons you're used to holding down to continually raise and lower in increments--forget it! A volume command with this thing tip toes up or down one 1 increment per trigger. A large volume change takes forever. I have many Insteon devices. This device is the most primitive of them all. Oh, make sure your remote batteries are brand new and not emitting a weak signal. It will make do for now, but it needs some work
    BWard -- Long Beach   6/18/2009
Great product! I have five functioning in my house and because of this product my wife is now able to easily control control our otherwise technologically sophisticated home. The push of one Insteon button as she enters the room will lower the screen, turn on the video projector, amplifier and cable box. I also have it setup so she can select one of four other buttons to select the channel she would like to watch. There is no other way I could accomplish this task without the IrLink.
    Rob D -- arlington, VA   6/15/2009
Well, technically it does do what it advertises, which is to broadcast IR signals for all your different A/V components where/when you need them. The instructions and manual are woefully inadequate, however. It took me 4 times to re-read the instructions to figure out how I was supposed to program this thing, and even then it was pretty unclear how to get it to activate. Through trial and error, I eventually got it, but it took hours and hours because I had one component that needed two keypresses, and was not receiving the second signal quickly enough. The instructions talk about using a remote from another room to program a 'phantom' keypress and give your component a moment to respond, but I was pretty frustrated. Homeseer or _ANY_ software support would really be great in order to more fully use the 2411t.
Mike Morris -- San Diego   3/30/2009
Great product. I love the ability to push one button and even automate turning on my TV and even changing to a specific channel. It would have gotten a five star rating, but I agree with Erik - would be nice to integrate with Houselinc 2 or have a supported software to help program it.
