The UPB RS232 PC Interface Module is used to exchange digital commands between a PC and UPB devices in the home over your existing AC power wiring.

The UPB RS232 PC Interface Module plugs into your wall, but you won't lose an outlet: The included serial cable plugs into the bottom of the module and then into an available serial port on your PC, but a pass-through outlet is included as well, for a non-controlled appliance or lamp.
The UPB RS232 PC Interface Module converts serial signals to UPB powerline signals so that you can control your lamps or appliances through your computer. Any appliance or lamp to be controlled will require a UPB Appliance Module or a UPB Lamp Module 400W; both are sold separately.
The UPB RS232 PC Interface Module uses Universal Powerline Bus technology for superior performance and reliability. Similar to the standard X10 protocol, Universal Powerline Bus technology uses your existing power wires, so no rewiring is necessary in order to use this switch. But UPB benefits include its higher reliability, since its signal strength is stronger than X10, with increased electrical noise resistance.
