Essential Info

With this in-wall combination USB charger and tamper resistant receptacle unit, you’ll be able to charge portable electronic devices directly from a wall outlet. No more carrying around bulky USB adapters or powering up a computer to charge cell phones, music players, PDAs, or any other USB-powered device. All you will need is a USB cable to connect to the one of two USB ports on this unit. This energy-efficient unit uses less energy than traditional chargers, leading to savings of up to $31 per year in electricity costs. In addition to the USB ports, this unit also features one standard AC electrical outlet. Equipped with UL approved tamper resistant shutters, this unit complies with the 2011 NEC Article 406.12 requirement.

Any standard duplex receptacle can be replaced with this unit in minutes. Constructed with injection-molded housing, PVC resin, and a zinc-plated steel mounting strap, this combination receptacle was designed with durability and corrosion resistance in mind. An automatic grounding system eliminates the need for a bonding jumper in grounded metal enclosure. Triple wipe blade contacts and double wipe ground contacts also allow for long-term plug retention and can withstand regular use.

    Great product, easy installation, and no more fumbling with wall warts (chargers). The only downside is that it does NOT come with a cover plate but you can reuse the one you remove and it won't look too bad.

    This product works as advertised. HOWEVER, the product as advertised is not good! People unfamiliar with USB charging will likely miss the fact that this plus only puts out 700mA through the USB ports. High-energy devices such as iPads and other tablets can pull up to 2400mA from USB ports, which means this wall outlet is terrible for charging them. If you can get it to charge your iPad at all, it will charge very, very slowly when compared to other products. As more and more devices expect that 2.4A pull, you will find that your outlets around the house are woefully inadequate. The low amperage even means that two iPhones plugged in to this outlet at the same time will charge very slowly, while a 2.4A version would not have that issue. There are plenty of competitors to this product that do the full 2.4A, so I would go find one of them rather than going with this. It's a shame because I am a big fan of Cooper Wiring products normally.

    These are convenient but just a word of CAUTION here depending on what devices you plan to plug into this. This device is rated to output 5 Volts at 0.7 Amp 3.5 Watts. Adapters for many tablets including iPad, android, etc... have an AC/DC adapter that produces 2.0A output =10W. So this built-in product will charge much slower than your original wall plug. Further some devices like Google Nexus 7 tablet insist that we only use the original Asus 2.0A wall plug charger which came with the tablet. I don't know if that has anything to do with the charging mechanism or battery life. But on 0.7A plug in chargers from cell phone/camera I've used occasionally my Nexus it charges significantly slower even overnight in some cases has not able to get up to a full charge. So I'm sticking with the original charger for that device to be on the safe side.

    Nice idea! Are these 1AMP or 2AMP USB ports? And are they combined 4AMPs or combined 2 AMPs. Most tablets and Apple products will need 2AMPs for charging or it will take for ever and sometimes not even work. I might get a couple of they provide 2AMP ports.

    This model is only 700mA so it charges iPhones fine but charges iPadI,II,III very slowly - and only if you are not using the iPad. I found a different brand at Lowes that is 2.1A - 3 times the power. It charges very quickly even while you are using the device.

    For iPad users the Leviton T5630 has 2.1 amps on on USB and 0.7 on the other, so that one might be a better choice for you.

    Very convenient, easy to install for anyone with basic electrical skills. Indicator light tells you when it is charging something. I bought 2, one for my home office one for the bedroom where I charge my USB devices. Device only has single screw-terminals for electrical connections, both outlets I changed were part of an outlet chain so I had to add wire-nuts and pig-tails to the box. If you don't know what a pig-tail or wire nut is you should not buy this!

    High quality, same size as a standard receptacle so it's a simple swap, nice LED to indicate when a device is charging, tamper-resistant outlet still allows easy insertion of a plug, unlike some that are really finicky. Great product!!!

    These should charge you iPad, although at a slower rate. I have 2 in my kitchen, one would charge the iPad 3, the other would not. I turned off the breaker and took the receptacle out and re-tightened the connections and made sure I had the ground wire on a good ground in the box. Turned the breaker back on and it now charges the iPad. Also make sure you have the hot and neutral usually Hot is black wire, White is neutral wire per the instructions. Hot, black wire on the black screw. They are a smart device. If nothing is plugged in, there is no phantom power. Also, as soon a device is fully charged they shut off. If the device draws power again they turn on. Not a huge power savings for a house, but it can be massive for a large hotel or convention center. As far as them making a better one with more power, maybe in the future. For now they have a lot of technology in that small space. 2 USB, and a 120V plug all in a 2 x 4 box is pretty good.
