FAQs
1. What is the MAIN ON / MAIN OFF slide switch for?
For normal operation, keep the slide switch in the MAIN ON position.
Move the MAIN ON / MAIN OFF slide switch to the MAIN OFF position when replacing bulbs.

2. Why is the LCD screen blank?
First, check that the MAIN ON / MAIN OFF slide switch is in the MAIN ON position. If the LCD screen remains blank, try pressing the RESET (R) key. The LCD screen should now display the clock.
If the LCD screen still remains blank after performing step (i), it may be that the internal battery inside the timer has been fully discharged. In such a case, move or keep the MAIN ON / MAIN OFF slide switch in the MAIN ON position for at least one hour to several hours, and then press the RESET (R) key again. This should be enough time for the internal battery to recharge; allowing the LCD screen to display its content.

3. Do I have to replace any batteries?
No. This timer is equipped with an internal rechargeable battery that operates the LCD screen and serves as memory backup. This timer will remember your clock and program settings in case of a power outage.

4. How long is the memory backup?
If fully recharged, the memory backup on this timer should last for several days in the event of a prolonged power outage.

5. How do I change the clock display between the 12 and 24 hour format? (How do I set the clock?)
The change between the 12 and 24 hour format can only be made in the clock setting mode.
Scroll to the CLOCK mode using either the UP or DOWN button. The CLOCK symbol will appear.
Press the SET button to enter the clock setting mode.
Choose the current day using the UP or DOWN button, and press the SET button.
The timer's default is the 24 hour format. Choose the hour by using either the UP or DOWN button. Remember, 0:00 to 11:59 is morning time and 12:00 to 23:59 is afternoon or evening time.
To change the clock display from the 24 hour format to the 12 hour format, press the RND button. Note that in the 12 hour format, a "PM" indicator will light up to the left of the time, but only on an afternoon or evening time.
Press the SET button to proceed with the minute setting. Choose the current minute using the UP or DOWN button, and press the SET button.
Press the SET button one last time to set the seconds and complete the clock setting.

6. Is this timer 7 day programmable? Or do I have to set a program for each individual day?
Yes, this timer is 7 day programmable which means that you can simply set one program to operate 7 days a week. This timer is equipped with 20 programs (20 ON settings and 20 OFF settings) which you can actually program to operate:
o On any particular day (i.e. Wednesday only)
o Monday to Friday
o Monday to Saturday
o Saturday and Sunday, and/or
o Everyday (7 days a week / Monday to Sunday)

7. How do I set a program?
Note: There are 20 programs. Each program has an ON setting and a corresponding OFF setting. In order for a particular program to function, both the ON and OFF settings must be programmed.
How do I find the programs? The programs are arranged in a cycle. From the CLOCK mode, use either the UP or DOWN button to scroll through the different program ON and OFF settings. The PROGRAM symbol will appear with the corresponding program number to the right of the screen, and the ON or OFF indication at the bottom-right corner.
For example, how do I set Program 1?
1. From the CLOCK mode, press the UP button once to go to the ON setting of Program 1. Note the "ON" indicator at the bottom-right corner of the screen.
2. Press the SET button to enter the program setting mode.
3. Choose the day or days of operation using the UP or DOWN button.
o Choices are: A particular day (i.e. Wednesday only)
o Monday to Friday
o Monday to Saturday
o Saturday and Sunday, and/or
o Everyday (7 days a week / Monday to Sunday)

The timer's default is Monday to Sunday.

4. Press the SET button
5. Choose the ON-hour using the UP or DOWN button, and press the SET button.
6. Choose the minute using the UP or DOWN button, and press the SET button to complete the ON setting of Program 1.
7. Now you must proceed to program the OFF setting.
Press the UP button once to go to the OFF setting of Program 1. Note the "OFF" indicator at the bottom-right corner of the screen. Now repeat the above steps (ii) to (vi) to program the OFF time for Program 1.
You have now completed setting Program 1.

8. What is the countdown feature? How can I use it?
The countdown feature allows you to keep your light ON or OFF for a specified duration, from one second up to 23 hours 59 minutes 59 seconds. Once the desired duration is preset, the countdown feature can simply be activated by pressing on the CD key or the ONE-TOUCH COUNTDOWN button.

There are various ways you can use this feature. The most common way is, say you have this timer installed indoors but controlling your outdoor porch light. And let's say, for example, that you would like 6 minutes of lighting every time you leave your home and walk up to your car on the driveway at night. Then all it takes is simply setting the countdown duration to 6 minutes; a one-time process. Then every time before you leave your home at night, give the ONE-TOUCH countdown button a single press and the porch light would turn ON for 6 minutes, counting to zero and automatically turn OFF.

9. Can I use the countdown feature in conjunction with any other programs or mode?
No. When the countdown feature is activated, all other programs and random functions are disabled.

10. What is the random function? What is it used for?
The random function serves as a security feature that allows you to have your lights turn ON and OFF randomly. The random lighting effectively provides a lived-in (at-home) look, acting as a deterrent.

11. What are the differences between the 3 types of random functions?
SHORT random - this mode will cycle the lights ON and OFF for 1 to 2 hour cycles.
LONG random - this mode will cycle the lights ON and OFF for 2 to 3 hour cycles.
PROGRAM random - this mode allows you to set the specific day(s) and time of day (i.e. in the evenings only between 6pm and 11pm, Monday to Friday) for the random function to operate. The programmable random will run on 1 to 2 hour cycles.

12. How do I activate or deactivate the SHORT random?
Press the RND button in the CLOCK mode. Once activated, the RND symbol will be blinking.
To deactivate, press the RND button again or the ON/OFF button once.

13. How do I activate or deactivate the LONG random?
Scroll to the COUNTDOWN (CD) mode using the UP or DOWN button. The CD symbol will appear. Now press the RND button in the countdown mode. Once activated, the L-RND symbol will be blinking.
To deactivate, press the RND button again or the ON/OFF button once.

14. How do I activate or deactivate the PROGRAM random?
First, ensure that Program 20 is set with the desired time period for the random function to operate (i.e. between 6pm and 11pm, Monday to Friday).
If you are not in either the ON or OFF setting of Program 20, press the UP or DOWN button to do so.
To activate, press the RND button in the Program 20 mode (either the ON or OFF setting is okay). Once activated, the RND symbol will appear and remain solid (not blinking).
To deactivate, press the RND button again or the ON/OFF button once.

15. Can I use the ETW190/193 with fluorescent lighting?
It is NOT recommended to use the ETW190/193 with fluorescent lighting. The ETW190/193 is designed to be used with incandescent and 120V halogen lighting only. The ETW190/193 is rated at 500W maximum.

16. Can I use the ON/OFF button to manually turn the lights ON or OFF?
Yes, you may press the ON/OFF button itself or the cover lid to turn the lights ON or OFF manually without affecting your preset programs.

great delivery time. very happy.

Pros: Easy to install. The instructions were excellent. After reading the instructions, it was easy to program as well. Cons: I installed this timer on a 3-way switch with a single bulb fixture. I originally had a 23W CFL, but it would occasionally flicker when turned off. This is most likely due to the bulb having too low of a wattage rating. The timer does work fine with a 40W and 60W incandescent. In defense of the manufacturer, it does say to use incandescent on the packaging. I am giving it the 2 stars because it did not say so on amazon, and because I expect a faceplate for a switch/timer if I am spending over $20. I mean come on, they cost what, $0.20? Other Thoughts: I plan on buying a higher wattage CFL to see if that solves the problem. My suggestion is to buy one rated for CFLs if you intend to use one. Otherwise, make sure you have enough fixtures that you can add several CFL bulbs. Update: I did buy a 25W CFL that still flickers but only for a few seconds. Not ideal but better than before. Probably has to due with the quality of the CFL. Cheaper CFLs seem to flicker more. Because of this I bumped it up to 3 stars.

it works! the screen is a bit small.
RAINER -- winter haven, FL   11/27/2010
great
DEREK X -- austin, TX   6/4/2010
This product is excellent for 3-way switchs. Did what it supposed to do, easy to install and program. No minimum power rating requirement and works with CFL light bulbs. The only problenm is that it does not include a jumper wire, so you have to buy one yourself. The instruction could be better. D
Thierry -- Canada   12/4/2010
With CFL bulbs, it keeps blinking on an attempt to turn it off. With incandescent bulbs, it works perfectly.
