Essential Info
Take control of your home electronics with your Mac. The new Version 1.1.7 of Thinking Home Software makes using your Macintosh to control your home a breeze even when you're out of town, thanks to the software's web interface. This Mac OS X program lets you turn off your computer after storing scheduled events into an ActiveHome CM-11 or the CP-290 computer interface (sold separately). The easy point-and-click approach is ideal for people who just want to store events and macros and let it run. You can even control X10 products with your voice. Controlled lights, appliances, and thermostats will need to be connected to X10 devices (sold separately). Smarthome does not accept returns on any opened software.

More Info

Activate electronics simply by speaking to them with Thinking Home Version 1.1.7's voice-recognition technology. Never again worry about stumbling in a darkened room if you can simply "tell" the light to turn on. Other features include the ability to store events and macros, allowing you to use a single X10 command to trigger a sequence or group of pre-programmed X10 commands. Thinking Home downloads scheduled commands to the X10 controller, permitting the Mac to be shut down. If the Mac is left running, it can also send commands at any time in response to your voice, AppleScript or web CGI requests. Thinking Home also includes more than 250 pages of online documentation to help troubleshoot just about any X10 situation.
The software offers seamless support for all serial ports, including third-party USB adapters. Thinking Home runs AppleScripts in response to selected reports from the interface, and provides spoken announcements and logging of commands, enabling you to remain in control of its activities. Thinking Home supports both one- and two-way devices, including thermostats. Apple Help with detailed information is also featured.
Thinking Home Software Version 1.1.7 runs on Mac computers using System 9.0 to System X. In addition to the software, you will also need a compatible interface, like the ActiveHome computer interface. If your Mac lacks a serial port, a Keyspan USB-to-Serial converter works well between the computer and the home automation interface.
For Macs with a processor prior to 68040, you'll need the earlier version of Thinking Home. This version runs on older Macs running System 7.0 or MacOS 8.6 or later. This version is can be downloaded from the Internet and is activated with the serial number that comes with your Thinking Home software purchase from Smarthome.
For Macintosh computers with a serial interface, add the Mini-Din 8 Male to DB-9 Male cable, and you'll have a fully operational interface for your X10 system. The 6-foot cable works with Activehome or CP-290 computer interfaces. The cable connects to a standard Mac serial port at one end; the other end is a DB-9 male, which is electrically and physically equivalent to a PC serial port connector, allowing connection to the external computer interface.
The computer may remain turned off for timed events and macros. All the information and settings are stored in the interface. For speech recognition, the execution of AppleScripts or access over the Internet, the computer must be on and running the software.
