Essential Info

No one has the time these days to cook an elaborate meal, so most of us end up microwaving something quick and thereby eating rubbery, soggy food. The Half Time Oven combines microwaves with convection heat to brown your food quickly. And the Whole Meal Feature cooks different foods together so you don't have dishes cooling while you are waiting for others to heat. The Half Time Oven is four ovens in one: a microwave oven, a convection oven, a half-time oven, and a complete meal oven.

Hands-On Research:
To test this product we made whole meals and baked cookies for dessert — on my desk at work! The tri-tip was amazing, and the cookies were browned in 4 minutes. There is a "hot spot" in the center so the cookie in the center was darker than the rest, but we purposefully overdid a cookie, and although it got quite brown, it would not burn! The comments I got from coworkers were that the meat was exceptionally juicy, the veggies were perfect, and the cookies... well, the cookies disappeared within minutes.

Please note: The center of the oven gets hotter than the edges, to better cook large, dense foods such as roasts and whole birds. Please take this into consideration when cooking smaller items, such as cookies.

    Automatic Preheating
    After you set the cooking time, the electronic control automatically adds 2 1/2 to 7 minutes of pre-heating time depending on the temperature you select. If the oven is already hot, the electronic control will sense the heat and remove the extra time after 10 seconds. For example, if you bake chicken breasts in a regular oven for 40 minutes at 375, you set 375 and 20 minutes (1/2 the regular cooking time). As soon as you press the START pad, the electronic control will add 4 minutes of pre-heating time, changing the display from 20:00 to 24:00. If the oven is already hot, the pre-heating time will just be eliminated after 10 seconds.

    Three Trays
    The glass tray is used for all functions: Put your cooking dishes straight on it for microwaving.

    The metal tray must be used for every Half Time, Complete Meal and Convection function. NEVER use the metal tray during a Microwave-only function. Place the metal tray onto the glass turntable. The metal tray acts like an oven rack and allows hot air to circulate under the food. Food can be cooked directly on the tray or in a cooking dish or pot placed on the tray. Use regular oven-safe cooking dishes: metal, glass or ceramic. Regular oven meat thermometers can also be used.

    The metal tray has a special easy-to-clean coating. Sharp knives and forks should never be used directly on the surface of the tray, as they could scratch the finish. To clean the tray, wash with any dishwashing soap and dry with a towel. To prolong the finish on your tray, do not place in the dishwasher.

    A grill rack is also included. When used, it is placed on the glass rack.

    Complete Meal Features
    The Half Time Oven cooks meats, starches, and vegetables at the same time by increasing the energy for higher density foods (like meats and root vegetables) and decreasing the energy for less dense foods (like veggies), so all parts of the meal are complete at the same time.

    Complete meal A is for chicken, fish, fillets, sliced potatoes or rice, and fresh veggies. Complete meal B is for Roasts and whole chickens, baked potatoes, and fresh or frozen veggies.
