It's not necessary to run wires to a lighting unit in order to add a dimmable light to a room. By replacing a standard light switch with the Z-Wave In-Wall Switch/Dimmer, you'll add instant dimming capabilities to any incandescent light. Since this dimmer switch is also Z-Wave compatible, you'll also be able to control it remotely using a radio-frequency controller, so no wires need to be run, and you won't have to rely on power lines to get your commands to your lamp. This dimmer requires "hot" and "load" wires, plus ground. The Z-Wave In-Wall Switch/Dimmer will fit any Decora-style wall plate (sold separately). Note: Z-Wave technology is not X10 compatible.

The Z-Wave In-Wall Switch/Dimmer will control a floor or table incandescent lamp between 40 and 300 watts. Two-way feedback confirms that each device is set up and working properly. Once set up, you'll be able to use the switch to turn incandescent lights on and off and dim them. You can also control the switch's load using a Master Remote Controller or a Handy Controller (each sold separately), which will be convenient for timed operation, such as if you want to schedule the lamp to turn on automatically at dusk.
You can expand your Z-Wave network by adding Lamp Modules, Appliance Modules and Outdoor Lamp Modules. Since each module includes a repeater function, adding more modules to your Z-Wave network actually improves reliability.
