Using your computer to control lights, appliances, heating/air conditioning systems and alarm systems is now easier and more affordable than ever with the PowerLinc USB. This totally new module is the world's first home automation interface that transmits and receives X10 powerline signals from PCs to home automation devices via the computer's Universal Serial Bus (USB) connection. Note: PowerLinc USB cannot function as a stand-alone controller because it does not have memory. Please see the PowerLinc Controller USB for a home automation system that doesn't need a computer running to control it.

No More Fights over the COM Ports
Unlike previous solutions, which used slower RS-232 communication protocol and occupied the one and only serial port connection, the PowerLinc USB transfers data at higher speeds and only occupies one of several USB ports, allowing you to add other USB devices with ease.
Pass Thru Outlet
As an additional bonus, it offers a feed-through outlet that allows you to plug in additional devices. Really helps against "power strip buildup".
Easy-to-Use Software Included
To make home control even easier, the PowerLinc USB includes a specially-created versions of popular software packages. First, a specially created version of Home Control Assistant, a leading home automation software application has been included. This custom version offers allows you to automate four devices based on timed or conditional response. If you need to automate five or more devices, we even throw in a free 30-day demo of Home Control Assistant Plus, the full-featured version that provides control of all 256-possible X10 addresses. Both versions offer full support of Smarthome's home control products, including SwitchLinc switches, KeypadLinc keypads and LampLinc lamp modules. Next, a trial version of HAL 2000, the leading voice recognition based automation software, is also included.
Software Specifications
PowerLinc USB works with any computer running Microsoft Windows® 98se and above (with exception of Windows 2000 Server & 2003 Server). And because it uses Microsoft's Human Interface drivers that are already in use on those systems, you won't have to install any additional drivers or worry about conflicts with other hardware or software.

In order to meet the ISO 9002 standards, the entire factory underwent rigorous inspections of procedures and policies before being thoroughly audited. Using PowerLinc USB & PowerLinc Controller with DirectX Input Devices
We have found an incompatibility between the PowerLinc USB and PowerLinc Controller (USB) and certain USB input devices that are used by programs running Microsoft's DirectX system. When running a game that uses USB input devices like joysticks, we recommend unplugging the USB cable for the PowerLinc USB or PowerLinc Controller. While we have not tested all possible combinations of Microsoft's operating systems and versions of DirectX for compatibility, we still recommend unplugging the cable to the PowerLincs during game play. We have not found that USB gaming devices pose any problem to home automation programs (Smarthome Manager, HCA, HomeSeer, etc.) or the PowerLinc interfaces.
