The HomeSeer X10 Starter Kit contains a LampLinc module that will allow the control of a single lamp in your home, as well as the PowerLinc Controller, which interfaces with the HomeSeer software to transmit your signals to the LampLinc. In addition, this kit contains a remote control system, so that you can control your lamp from any room in the house. From this starter kit, you can easily add additional LampLincs or ApplianceLincs (sold separately) to control any light or appliance in your home using the remote or the HomeSeer software.
HomeSeer automation software provides an easy computer interface so that you'll be able to control up to eight X10 devices and 32 events over your computer. The included HomeSeer Special Edition software will control up to 8 X10 devices. To control an unlimited number of devices, upgrade to the full HomeSeer Automation Software. The software's Assistant Wizard will help you to set up your interface. As well as turning devices on and off or dimming lamps, you can create events in HomeSeer to control the devices or respond to status changes in X10 devices. For example, you can turn on a light at sunset and turn it off at 11:00 p.m.
HomeSeer sends commands for X10 devices to the PowerLinc Controller, a stand-alone home automation interface for controlling lights, appliances, heating/air conditioning systems and alarm systems. It includes on-board processing so timers and macros can be downloaded without the need to leave your computer running. The PowerLinc Controller connects to your computer by an included USB cord. The PowerLinc Controller plugs into your wall, but you won't lose that outlet: a pass-through outlet is included on the device, allowing you to plug in other, non-controlled devices.
It is recommended that you use the FilterLinc on your computer's power strip to keep the PowerLinc Controller's signals from getting absorbed by the computer equipment.
The PowerLinc comes with the Smarthome Manager Basic software CD-ROM, which allows you to set up timers, macros and other home automation events. Once the events are added, they are downloaded into the PowerLinc Controller's on-board memory and will execute even if the computer is turned off.
Included in this kit is a single LampLinc that can be used with any standard household lamp up to 400 watts. Like the PowerLinc Controller, the LampLinc contains a pass-through receptacle, so you won't lose any outlets when it's plugged in. This module will respond to 65 different X10 signals and can be set to any of 32 levels of dimming. You can also choose any of 32 rates at which the lamp will fade on or off. A slower ramp-up rate will be appreciated when you turn the light on as you go to the kitchen for a midnight snack!
Also included in the HomeSeer X10 Starter Kit is a remote control. This remote uses radio frequency signals to send commands to the included transceiver to control your lights and appliances from anywhere in the house. The remote sends its signals over radio frequency, so no line-of-sight button pressing is necessary. The transceiver then sends the signals over your power lines to your X10 modules, such as the LampLinc. The remote requires four AAA alkaline batteries (sold separately). The remote will control up to 16 units; the transceiver can also be controlled by other X10 powerline controllers.
