If you already own or plan to purchase an Aprilaire 8870 Communicating Thermostat, the Aprilaire 8061 TT Remote Temperature Sensor Module is an excellent accessory. When combined with the thermostat, this sensor module allows you to accurately control and monitor temperature in a given area. When combined with up to three additional Aprilaire 8053 Surface Mount Temperature Sensors, for a total or four, you can control, and monitor (or even do a combination of both) up to eight zones, as each module has a set of onboard dip switches that allow you to select whether you want as many as two sensor inputs per support module. The temperature data is sent by digital communications back to the communicating thermostat, noting that a maximum total distance between the support modules and the thermostat is 1000 feet.

Heat Pump Applications
The TT Remote Temperature Sensor Module can be used with a heat pump thermostat. For the most efficient use of energy, the thermostat can be configured to disable the use of auxiliary heat during warm weather and to lock out the compressor when the outdoor temperature is too cold. This is important because at warmer temperatures, a heat pump operates at a higher rate of efficiency than the auxiliary heat.
